Eh fuck it, I'll respond once.

Yea I nuked everything. The entire post stayed way too far from my original point, and became feedback on my game, which was *NOT* what I was looking for.

I was looking for a much more broad, macro view of things, instead I got mostly criticism and feedback on my game.

Yea, too much negatively is disheartening which probably contributed to why I nuked it, but also I just wanted to put a kebash on the notification spam I was getting that wasn't related to what I actually wanted to hear. (which was, what makes you avoid a game, besides the tags).

I did actually pay attention to the feedback.... some of it I'm ignoring. (Like the comments on art. I am not a good artist, and honestly I've damn near peaked my potential. I know people like to say stuff like "oh you just need to practice and learn".... here's an example. Imagine you're an athlete. You practice and train every day, you put 100% into everything, but no matter what you do, you never make it past the AAA leagues - that's your personal peak, and you'll simply never grow beyond it. That's me with art. I lack the natural ability or talent to ever be capable of making it past a certain level, and I know this, so I mostly dismiss criticism on my art because I *know* it's not the best, and I also know how much time and effort I've already spent trying to learn and improve, and I know it'll never get significantly better).

Some of it I pay attention to (I've made at least 2 changes already based on feedback... small ones but maybe they'll help. I also spent most of yesterday, and a good portion of today working on new ideas based on it). Even if I didn't respond to everthing everyone said, doesn't mean I ignored it.

Overall I got a lot of useful stuff from this thread, but it strayed so far from the original point, that I decided to just nuke it all.

Thank you to the people who tried to answer the original question, thanks to the people who offered valid criticism, and fuck you to that one guy. You know who you are. No, not you. Yes, you.
You can just ignore a thread if you don't want notifications from it. Nuking all your posts because it stopped being what you want doesn't do any good. Now the only thing people will talk about and think of for this thread is you taking your ball and running away. Which is only going to sour some people's view of your game, because a lot of players do take devs into consideration when looking at new games.

Ah, looks like I'm late to the party. Here's my opinion anyways:
I think games targeted towards (ultimately) niche fetishes like incest, blackmail, NTR, virginity, harems, ect. will never manage to be good games. Those fetishes will often make it harder to focus on real gameplay because you can't really tie those into any kind of interactive gameplay. I mean what are you gonna have, an incest combo? A blackmail cancel?

Then there's visual novels. There are never any gameplay mechanics that someone couldn't do while asleep, which means the games quality is completely determined by it's writing. And as you know, no detailed video game story is beyond cheesy. Writing stories is hard and 97% of any detailed story is bad/mediocre. Even some of my favorite media has the occasional large plot hole or filler episodes.

Now this gets worse when you start throwing sex into the mix. Most stories either have fade-to-blacks or avoid sex entirely because it's generally uncomfortable to watch, especially in serious stories. Try to actually masturbate to porn VN's is always problematic since there's no defined "end" for a few thousand pages. Worse is the fact you can't interact with (or are extremely limited) to any of the porn scenes. I could hop on r34 instead of being edged by a book.

How would a game be able to get me to play a game? First, I generally judge games by their engines, an unreal/unity is better than a ren'py. Then I take a look at the title, right click open new tab if it's not something translated. If I'm looking at the pictures, you've probably done good enough. Take a look at the tags, check protagonist gender, and I've probably downloaded it.

To be in the creative business, one always has to have a tough skin (more now then ever). I use to review fanfic for folks, till I had this one writer just blow-up on me because I called part of her chapter "lazy" when writing-up a will reading (she just did a list - Boring!). Had my own heart broken when I had this guy review something I wrote (Big fan of Phantom of the Opera, which should had given me a hint what I was in for) and this guy just nuked it. Worst part, he was correct on 90% of it because I hadn't put in the work to learn the basic principles of a good story. I kinda half-assed the story because even then it was better then half the stuff I saw on FanFiction. Yet I haven't wrote anything else for the site going on five years, so don't be me.

On the other side, I've heard authors say one of the best things to help one write better is having a person you can trust giving honest reviews. I would suggest PM some of the posters in this thread for that with later versions of your game. It can only help!

Hell Yeah! I can already see it now...
*2D fighter, 2 beds*
Player 1: I use "incest orgy". This increases my incest combo attack!
Player 2: Ha ha, now I got you. I use "blackmail"! Now your attacks are ineffective against me, mwhaha!
Player 1: Thats where your wrong Kyba, for you see I know you cheated on your wife, so I reverse your blackmail with "blackmail cancel"!
Player 2: Noooo...
*Stage Changes to 1 bed*
Player 1: I always come out on top, and you... your just a bottom.
Player 2: We'll see who'll come first Yugi.
*proceeds to direct 1 on 1 combat*

Also what the hell happened here?! *looks at the nuked board*. I was only gone for like a day!

I will never get much better no matter HOW MUCH I try - and I HAVE tried. I'm not going to argue it, I know my own personal capabilities and limitations, so just trust me when I say, I'm damn near maxed out in that capacity.
I really wouldn't worry about the art. It's perfectly ok! Character design is also pretty good. There are (popular) games with really bad art or substandard renders, noisy, bad lighting, ugly characters etc. The art, character designs and renders in Alive, including the animations, are absolutely fine though.

Big fan of slice-of-life anime, so I won't mind a game where MC is at loose-ends after high school or college.

Add this in your bio, and you should be safe:
"I'm a 23yo young blond girl. I do sports regularly, but not as often as I want because my back tend to hurt due to my too big boobs. I never had a boyfriend, because so far I never found a real man to make me submit, but I'm really close (hihihi) to some of my girl friends. I'm making an adult game out of sexual frustration and in hope to find my master among the players."

I'd be careful. If you lie about that, I heard you can be criminally prostituded.

Love the joke. But we are almost an all female team. I could leave the community to someone who isn't too far from the description.
But not doing onlyfans, we want to succeed with our work.

So you have to live with grumpy old me

add a stolen, censored, or ai-generated pic of a big-boobed blonde in goth gear (no face)

What is more than honorable. The opposite wouldn't worth more than all those girls who pass their time tweeting about how women should be recognized for their brain, while only having photos in skinny bikinis.

This being said, I'm sure that there's a game that can be done with such pitch.
An almost all female team of dev making a game, while the male community manager secretly decide to open an onlyfans because the bills have to be payed.
Put a bit of management game mechanism, and the player have to keep the income balanced between the game and the onlyfans, because if the game earn too much, the onlyfans become useless, and if the onlyfans earn too much, the girls will discover it and fire the community manager.
Of course, during all this time, the said community manager is as interested by the onlyfans than by the fact that to make content for it, he need to do naughty things with the girls.

That sounds like a super fun idea. Mind if I steal this? I might adapt it a little bit
