Hey y'all, small update because I remember talking about it here, but I think I've finally nailed the missing bit of that Ava scene I mentioned. There's still a small nervousness I have about the character development on the whole for reasons previously talked about, but I finally was able to find the missing bit of connective tissue that was missing to tie it to one of her big moments. Literally just one line as I was writing part of her scene links it all in pretty perfectly, and I'm now quite happy with it. I'd been going back and forth a little between writing parts of her scenes in the next update and the one after knowing that there was a disconnect and now that I've finally got that line in there to set up the future scene feels good. So I thought I'd give a little update, seeing as I remembered having a little discussion on her as a character here a while back.
(also i'm going to say this quietly so don't get too excited but maybe a late january release? this are speeding up a little and i'm starting to think this is a possibility. please don't be mad if it ends up coming out in march or something tho)

Based off of how many renders I'm posing a day vs how many I think is left in the update, I could be done by the end of this month, because there's only ~600 left by my guess, so ~30 a day. But a lot of them will take at least 1 hour to render (every Ava scene takes 1+ hour, for instance), so even if I left it running 24 hours there's a limit to how much gets done. But yeah, I'm hoping to have it all posed in January at the very least and then it's just waiting to see how longs it takes to finish. I'm cautiously optimistic, and magical rituals are very much welcomeso time to make some blood sacrifices on a full moon and perform other types of magical rituals to make sure it does come out in january then

The numbers currently sit at 1172 renders complete, with 13/17 scenes now finished.
Not much else to report on for now, though as this is the last free dev log of the year I'll reiterate something I mentioned in last week's dev log, those being my plans for 2026. I'm intending on releasing 3 updates in 2026: the prelude to ch4 (in Jan/Feb), Chapter 4: The Party in the summer, then ch5 by the end of the year.
This is theoretically possible, looking at some hypothetical render counts for each release, so it's what I'm aiming for. Naturally I'm not able to make any guarantees, as a wide variety of things can change at any given moment that could cause delays (or, in a more unlikely scenario, expedite them), but that's my intentions for the upcoming year.
I'm very much looking forward to the next year. I have high hopes, and I'm going to work as hard as I can to see them come to fruition.
As indicated above, I'm hoping for an update to come out in January, more likely towards the end of the month but I can't see a world in which things go beyond February. As I say, anything can happen, but as we stand we're getting fairly close to things being finished. At any rate, in the next free dev log (they're every 4 weeks), I'll almost certainly be able to guess at a release window. Those of you who are paid members, you'll of course get the week-by-week breakdowns of how close we're getting, but by the next free dev log I'm hoping to possibly be putting an official date on things.
I'm giving myself a slightly bigger testing window, as there's a fair amount of branching in this update compared to previous, so I want to make sure a) it all works, and b) there's no continuity errors, so that gap between 'finished' and release might be a little longer this time than previously, where it's only been a couple days. Might take closer to a week this time, hard to say really. But I don't want to rush anything, obviously.
Thank you all for your support as always. The closer I get to a release, I think naturally the more nervous I become, but seeing continued support for the game, seeing people recommending it, seeing people generally enjoying playing is incredibly motivating and gratifying. Thank you all once again!

What's good y'all. Hope you're all doing well. I've just seen the Christmas contest thing is happening again this year for donors. Last year I remember a few of you mentioning that you would've voted for me if I was eligible, but at the time I didn't have the developer tag so I wasn't. Just wanted to say I'd really appreciate it if you were considering it last year, I feel like the game's only improved over the last year with the most recent update, so I'd love it if you consider me again now that I'm actually eligible.
Ultimately vote for who you think is most deserving, but I thought I'd put a little message here as I remembered some people being disappointed they were unable to vote for me last year, and I really appreciated the sentiment.
On a more general note while I'm here, we're still on course for a January release as far as I can tell. And if I don't get the chance to say this again before next year, I wish all of you here all the best for the upcoming year. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do something I love! I'm incredibly grateful, and determined to keep improving again next year.

I was pretty disappointed when I was told I couldn’t vote for you last year.
And yeah, the game has improved a lot over the past year (in my humble opinion), so you’ll definitely be getting one of my votes again.

That's all I'm really trying to do, improve year on year. I'm at the stage now where I think the writing is at a good level overall (and I'm excited for the things I've got coming), I've got the visuals more or less to a consistent quality (still room for improvement here compared to the top tier games, but I've got a style/method that works for me now), so what I need to improve now is speed. Which is why I'm aiming for 3 updates in 2026, that's the next step of improvement. I'd love for the dev cycles to be 6 months max, even for the longer chapters that'll push (maybe go over) 3000 renders. Which is theoretically doable (say an average 20 renders a day, 600 a month, 3000 in 5 months) - it's just about getting the work done, and hoping my computer works fast. But as I say that's the next big improvement I want to make for this next year, just generally being more productive!
