It is what it is. It simply he didn't make enough money for it to be worth his time. He probably realized he was making less than minimum wage on his labor, and decided to stop. That is why about half of the games here end up abandoned. Pretty much every small-time game, with a small but loyal fan-base, like Nothing is Forever, never gets finished.

There are a few where the dev is really committed, and will finish it whether he makes big bucks or not, but most are doing this for the money, and sadly, except for a few dozen wildly successful games, most devs would make more doing practically anything else than game development.

Money can be an issue yes but it's not always the case, some big dev are stalling updates for months or years or straight up abandon the game. Motivation and commitment is a big factor too as it very often starts as a hobby without obligation.

You have no fucking idea what you are talking about.

Can you show us on the teddy bear the places where the big bad hobbyist developers "stole" your money? Ohhh, I see, you never contributed anything to this game, financial or otherwise... you just have hurt little feeeelings because you want more more more but can't get it.

Come back when you actually contribute something to the world other than childish entitlement.
I couldn't care less on whatever it is you are on about buddy. Have good one!:)

That's very true. That is the opposite to the problem with NiF. I didn't address the successful devs that end up piecemealing out their updates, less, and less, over a longer and longer time span. About 80% of successful money making games end up going this route. There are only about a dozen developers that are both quite successful, and also have integrity enough to make sure their updates are regular and timely for their paying fans.

I do think pretty much all devs are really in this for the money, which is fine, nobody should be expected to work for free, but the better ones also enjoy what they are doing and have commitment to finish. If they weren't doing it for the money, they would just post it as a free game to itch and not even have a Patreon.

I wont talk about subjective opinions.

Except he’s really sick or dead, he should have a clear communication and committment with the deliveries. That’s the minimum obligation that he should do when receiving donations.

People don’t donate for free. We donate for a cause and for a reason. Even with charity, we expect transparency and committment as well…
Quick question. Anyone hears any news from him?

The game was put on sale on Steam until May 7th, so it's still alive :Kappa::coffee:.

Are these avns early access titles on steam? Kinda strange if it would just keep selling there without any kind of notice of the development having stopped

Steam actually does give notice if an EA title is stopped or abandoned, but it takes more time than here on F95. And I cannot even buy it on Steam, since my country is one of those "lucky ones" geoblocked by them. And no, I do not try out the tricks for an AVN title, not important enough.

As far as I know the only ones are China and Germany, are there any others :WaitWhat:?

For "sexy fun" there are a couple others, beside China and Germany. Basically all nations where Steam fears complications from their sub-optimal age verification. Other games and programms are normal buy for me on Steam, even 18+. It is an idiotic and hypocritical mess, my first PC was the "bread basket" C64 that might give you a hint to my age and I cannot buy some frakking AVNs on Steam!
All thanks to the incompetent, d*** n** Faeser, who spooked Steam with some regulations which never came at all in the end. Before that, some adult games were blocked, but most AVN stuff was still buyable.

I mean ... fuck steam anyway ... and even more for avns which get updates there like years later compared to patreon ...

Dead games get put on sale on Steam all the time. Just means the Dev is running low on cash. :devilish:
Don't have to have any updates to go on sale.
Its sad steam allows this...main reason I don't buy any AVN games on steam until they are Complete. I do support devs that finish games.

My honest projection for a release date was actually this month, and with zero communication, now I genuinely also am beginning to think it really is abandoned. I had assumed until now MrSL was still actually working on it, and would just release when ready. Missing his projection by even a month or two with no update at all was concerning but not a back breaker for this game. But now missing it by months, and being a year out since the last release, yeah, now it's time to begin thinking there won't actually be another release. Very unfortunate.

This is the rare project I would even think a reboot could make sense. The scenarios option would be a much better way to release things to begin, that would allow completion of stories, and then add the long common route only after all of them are finished. That way it would be easier to tie them together, or even have alternate stories, since the game is designed to be choice driven. The common route would be the "true" route with an actual main story. But probably none of that will happen now.

Even if he never releases a final update, it would be nice to see just a general dialogue from him one last time. He used to communicate with us, and it was to me at least enjoyable. I suppose perhaps it wasn't for him. I hope he's doing well and is happy doing whatever he is now doing.
Seriously, the good games get abandoned so often, I guess the people who put some actual effort into their projects end up burning out.

And more often bad games get abandoned but since they are bad nobody cares
Have to disagree with you on that one. The giant pile of shovel-ware, reused assets, crap porn games, on Steam seems to indicate, lots of bad games do just fine. :poop:
