Dead games get put on sale on Steam all the time. Just means the Dev is running low on cash. :devilish:
Don't have to have any updates to go on sale.
Its sad steam allows this...main reason I don't buy any AVN games on steam until they are Complete. I do support devs that finish games.

My honest projection for a release date was actually this month, and with zero communication, now I genuinely also am beginning to think it really is abandoned. I had assumed until now MrSL was still actually working on it, and would just release when ready. Missing his projection by even a month or two with no update at all was concerning but not a back breaker for this game. But now missing it by months, and being a year out since the last release, yeah, now it's time to begin thinking there won't actually be another release. Very unfortunate.

This is the rare project I would even think a reboot could make sense. The scenarios option would be a much better way to release things to begin, that would allow completion of stories, and then add the long common route only after all of them are finished. That way it would be easier to tie them together, or even have alternate stories, since the game is designed to be choice driven. The common route would be the "true" route with an actual main story. But probably none of that will happen now.

Even if he never releases a final update, it would be nice to see just a general dialogue from him one last time. He used to communicate with us, and it was to me at least enjoyable. I suppose perhaps it wasn't for him. I hope he's doing well and is happy doing whatever he is now doing.

Seriously, the good games get abandoned so often, I guess the people who put some actual effort into their projects end up burning out.

And more often bad games get abandoned but since they are bad nobody cares
Have to disagree with you on that one. The giant pile of shovel-ware, reused assets, crap porn games, on Steam seems to indicate, lots of bad games do just fine. :poop:

Stay away from the games like Pale Carnations, Race of Life, Artemis or Leaving DNA before they suffer the same fate because of you!
Race of Life will never be finished, sorry. Progress is too slow to ever be completed. Same with Summer Heat (stick a fork in it). However, Pale Carnations has a dedicated dev team. It will definitely be finished. Artemis is a one man show (amazing), but the dev seems unusually motivated so I have high hopes it will one day be completed. You didn't mention it, but Eternum will also surely be finished because the dev has a track record of actually finishing a game! Every other game, its a crap shoot, less than 40% chance it will be completed before the devs disappear for good.

It's coming up on a year since the last update and given the timeline, I replayed the opening scene again, where MC's former patient and lover (whose name I unfortunately can't remember) introduces the mechanics and concepts behind the choices and character directions. And I was once again moved by how well constructed this little intro/tutorial is.

It cleverly combines the explanation of making story choices with the central theme of "what kind of man are you?" to convey a simple but powerful message: you are the sum of all your choices and actions, and the story will be moulded by the kind of man you choose to be, and thus, the kind of man you are. And there are no right or wrong ways to choose. But you do have to choose.

The familiar way she speaks to us as she introduces all these ideas, the gentle push for us to go on and make these choices, move forward, and go on with our life, forgetting about the past, forgetting about her in the process... It's incredibly effective at giving a taste of the kind of writing style, thematic exploration, and emotional punch that this game offers.

There is an elegance in the simplicity and effectiveness of this intro where every element works to build the overarching sentiments evoked by the intro: the playful yet also wistful way she asks how we would win a girl like her over, the collection of thematically resonant passages exemplifying each of the character pillars, the tender, encouraging tone of the conversation, tied together by the beautiful instrumental track Dear Friend by Alcaknight (one of my 2 favourite tracks from the entire game).

This isn't the best, or most well-written, or most emotionally impactful game I've played on this site. But the intro is the most cohesive, well-thought out, well executed, and emotionally poignant piece out of all of them, including the ones I rate higher overall, so much so that I come back and replay this scene and this scene alone just to revisit how it makes me feel. I truly hope that Mr. Silverlust can finish this game because a game like this deserves a good ending.

Anyone know if they are still pausing their Patreon? Because you have to log in monthly to pause it. Just looking for a sign of life.

Still paused ... "MrSilverLust is taking a break! You won't be charged again until their membership pause ends on June 1, 2025"

Yeah, Caribdis is the goat. I got full faith in him, he earned that. Once in a Lifetime was really good, and Eternum is better in every way, actually peak.

As for Summer Heat, 100% agree, just hope we get a H scene with one of the main girls before it gets shelved for good.

So the game isn't abandoned and we will see an ending to it, we just have to wait a little longer for the next update? Or is there a different reason this game was officially flaired "abandoned"?

F95zone mods set the tag on their own, independent of what the developer on another site tells or doesn't tell. So its nothing official.

The gist of it is that we don't know, since the developer doesn't communicate, not even on their own turf.

I switched computers and lost my old saves, so I've slowly started over. There were some changes to music I think, and some dialogue since I'd played some of these earlier parts. Also, I don't know if it's my GPU or the settings, but there's weird dark outlines and shadows sometimes, especially on their faces. Not enough for me to change settings in Nvidia ** but it's definitely different. Not a big deal but kind of funny.

I'll do my usual of mostly having different exclusive saves. This of course means the Kim cheating routes, as well as Lea and Jen, and the manwhore route, won't exist for me this time. I'm not going for the full completion as I've done previously. At most I may play a scenario version of those routes in the future. That also means Ch. 7 and possibly Ch. 6 iirc will be very short, since they were cheating/Kim heavy routes. But I no longer care about that and it's been over a year since the update, so whatever.

It's funny, if you get invested in something, you'll be disappointed for being jerked around and not getting updates or the updates being short. But if you don't get invested, then obviously you don't care in the first place and the game barely matters to you. That's a major issue for the patreon subscription model of updated games over time. Devs typically chafe at people wanting content, but then if people don't want content and won't pay for it, most devs then complain it's not financially rewarding. I'm not speaking about MrSL specifically here, afaik he's happy to pause the subs and not make money off of it, and just wants to work on it at his own speed (I don't know if he's still working on it anymore, but that's the last known public attitude, of course I can't see inside his mind either and won't speak for him).

Once I have all my saves ready to go, I should be good on waiting for maybe a half year or so after that. At that point it's not that I'll immediately change PCs again or anything, but I'll just not care anymore period, and not worry about trying to keep the saves. You CAN transfer them over, but I don't think I would bother. When it gets too far apart you also forget the individual storylines anyway.

I'm always surprised when people ask for this. NiF is nothing without its writer. That's before you even get into the mess of copyright and daz assets.
Agree completely, though it would be nice to see some devs taking some inspiration by implementing similar kink skill trees and personality mechanisms
