From what I understand, making doujins can be more of a means to an end for a lot of creators in Japan. They make a H game or manga and sell it, and if it sells well they use it to fund their real projects or school or what not. So when you see a game come out from a new dev that explodes in sales, but then never hear from the dev again, it's most likely they took the money and put it towards their priority goals and moved on from making porn.
