I like your point of view and I share most of it. It is very interesting some people are more happy with NTS rather than NTR or cheating. Personally I prefer a plausible plot over all, because I have known girls and guys in real life and I have seen some real scenarios where I can tell something is going on, so it is believable. Sometimes strange things happen in real life, and when you see them in a game you think, "Well, that could be possible", but there are other situations where I can only say, "Ah, well, that's just a game, it can't happen in real life".I think the best NTR (for me) are actually a combination of things. First I like hidden cheating NTR, so there is that. Within that subgenre I think the best versions are:
- coercion that doesnt got too far or is too blatant (it has to be reasonable, not "suck my dick or ill show people a recording of your fucking the MC")
- it has to be explained well within the mind of the FMC and make sense when it comes to the characters of MC and FMC.
- the bull actually seducing the FMC without her being a slut, so either the bull making her discover her nymphomaniac tendencies (but limited to him as a partner) or actually making her fall for him, but in this case bull should still be an asshole, that is a key element for me, I think if bull was a nice and all around better guy it would make for a less enjoyable NTR story and feel more like normal cheating
- unrequited love (MC likes FMC never dared to tell her, is a bit oblivious. extra-sweet if she liked him too but never told him)
- MC neglecting FMC (or at least her sexual desires) out of ignorance and slowly loosing her. often that also involves FMC not being aware of her desires until bull or some other event makes her realize them
- outside circumstances demanding FMC to engage with bull (but only to a degree and then it starts snowballing)
- bull tricking FMC without her noticing it - so no direct coercion/blackmail
- MC not being strong enough (but not a total looser. like for example being a good mage/healer or strategist but lacking that physical build) and FMC realizing she wants a strong man (just a side element most of the time, and its better as a side element anyway, its like a cherry on top)
absolute turn-offs for me:
- NTS
- slut / town bicycle
- rape (in most cases)
- stupid "nerd/otaku" trope (idk why its just meh)
- blatantly dumb FMC
- FMC that is too meek and submissive from the start
- dumb MC
- absolute looser MC who has nothing going for him (pathetic MC basically)
One thing that I really dislike is the absolute loser MC as you say. Because if the guy is such a loser how could he have scored the girl on the first instance? I mean it could be that the girl was just looking for safety, money or a nice guy, but sometimes the MC is such a loser that makes it very difficult to believe it.
I like MCs that can even take revenge or at least that are suspicious of certain situations. Furthermore, I dislike promiscuous girls who are like that from the start. A slow approach is much more belieavable. However there are games that uses these things that I dislike and it turns out nice, it could be because of the UI of the game or even that it has an amazing art. So I think the best thing is just let the devs be original. I would wish that the stories were plausible, but sometimes they aren't, but instead they have great art, so it makes me think.
I also truly dislike ugly and old bulls, because some games gives the bull all the good things in life but just once the bull sees the FMC, they even have the greatest luck with the FMC situations. So it is really weird, like if an ugly janitor that has had bad luck all his life suddenly has the greatest luck in life and get the FMC just because the story says so. It is not belieavable because if the bull was so smart and lucky it doesn't make sense he was a janitor with bad luck his entire life. And I don't mean being a janitor is bad, I know chill guys that are janitors and live a very peaceful life, just without all of that great luck that bulls have in games.
