Great words of wisdom for all developers. "Don't worry about the promises to backers who gave you money when the game was not released yet. It is their fault for thinking promises are meant to be kept. That will teach idiots who pay for a game before it is released a life lesson." If all developers follow your opinions then I definitely know no one will make mistakes with backing a game before it is released again.
IT IS indeed their fault. Tiramisu never made any promises, that's in your own mind. He made statements. And it's up to him (and here, not really him tbf) if he wants to respect those statement or not.
Young people (not necesseraly you) grew up with early access, patreon, ect... But years ago, the simple concept of giving money to someone online for getting something done just because he said "I will" next year was something utterly insane.
Now it's a norm, but people tend to forget, all those platform are made in a way where you legally donate to people. You're not buying anything, aside from wind and "promises" like you said.
Sometime it works, and we praise humanity, usually it doesn't
Times where pinkie promise mattered is long gone, especially business wise, I hope you're realist enough to assess this fact, because if not you'll get fucked more often than not.
Dude, I feel ya and I hear ya, but it is reality, ike it or not.
When you back up an alpha, there's ALWAYS a risk something will go south. Sometime it won't, but generally it will.
So you either accept this reality, or get pissed off. Whatever your reaction, reality will not change because you think there's not enough justice in this world.
And he didn't made any "promises", he never had any obligations, aside from morals one, to follow deadlines or even finish his game. That's what backing early access is. A gamble with the dev to see if they can manage to do what they say.
And you're not the only gambler here, devs gamble too. Because like in this situation, aside from being a tad naive, they also gamble with a company they never worked with (DLSITE) and see at the last moment things they didn't know.
You may think it is Tiramisu's fault to not inform himself better before launching this project, but he's a human being, and more often than not, humans aren't machine and make mistakes.
So yeah, my words clearly are wisdom not for devs, but for backers who think that because they gave money to a complete stranger for a project, they will owe you and finish the said project in time.
They won't, more often than not. They won't even finish the project. Be glad this one is basically finished and just need approbation from a third party.
When you back up a project, you need to have the same mentality than when you enter a Casino: "I don't need the money I will spend. I just want to spend it, and we will see how it goes, even if I lose everything tonight, I have back up at home so my life won't be impacted".
Because in the end, that's what it is: a gamble.
