All fair points.
I engaged in some deeply Zen self-reflection after posting in this thread and came to the realization I was just being salty about wasting a bunch of my time trying to figure out the mechanical significance of the beat bar when there actually wasn't one.
The fault lies not with the Universe, but within mineself.
Namaste.
To be fair to you, they didn't actually mention it anywhere other than the title. If someone who didn't know what "faphero" was played the game, it would be very likely for them to end up in your position.
They had a tutorial so idk why they didn't just mention it there xD. Well its clear that the creator half assed a lot of this game, which is unfortunate because I was very interested in the concept this was built off of.
Also, despite what I've said, it would actually be really cool if they used the beat bar mechanically. They could easily use how good you are at the rhythm aspect to determine how much damage you take or how soon you're allowed to do your next action. Extra points if there is a large variety of songs with the beat bar synched up. Assuming you dont have 70 buttons and super difficult patterns/timings (cough cough beat banger) you could even have "fun" with your off hand. Of course, doing this would require re-thinking the menus since going through your items/spells quickly enough to find what you need is already a problem in the game, but if you had to actually fallow the rhythm of the beat bar, that would just get even more exaggerated.
Changing the menu to a turn based game is like changing the entirety of the gameplay itself, and honestly, this game does need to be rethought. It's obvious that the beat bar was just slapped in haphazardly with only a couple of elements changed to make it work enough to be playable. The way that they did it just seems like it's annoying people though (based on what I've read in this thread at least).
Making a mod to fix all of this sounds like a nightmare, and it might just be better to take all the assets and remake the game from scratch. At that point you might as well redo the art as well and call it your own game xD. I will at least look into changing the current beat patterns for this game though to see if I can slightly improve it. Maybe if its too much of a hassle to mod the game I’ll just take the assets into godot and redo it.
I've dug through the files a little bit and am trying to see if the patterns can be changed. Believe it or not, they actually just have 6 patterns to go through. Why only 6? and why are all of them so trash? idk, that's beyond me still. Maybe its because they half assed it, who knows lol.
