I haven't played much of Chapter 2 yet but what I did play had no blood related characters, so there's no need for it. I'll make one if it becomes necessary.
Right, as I said. It didn't let me until a certain point within the story arc, despite having the message that Weiner mentioned. A different interaction needed to be pending, and once that was, the lab destination was unlocked.
You can go to the file gamename/Renpy/Common/00console.rpy and set config.console to True, after that just Shit+O on the game

Yep. Kept playing and it opened up.
It just seemed weird that I could visit her in chapter 1 but not in chapter 2 (up to a point) -- I thought maybe I was doing something wrong or had forgotten how to get there.
