Q and A!
Hey Loopers! I'm currently waiting on a couple things to do a new devlog, so I thought I'd at least put something out there by asking some Discord members to do a QnA, or an AMA, whatever.
I picked out 5 questions from the Discord to answer for you guys. Feel free to join the Discord at any point, and ask things in the connected channel! Maybe I'll answer a few different things every devlog at the end of it, or something.
Q: Do you have the entire story mapped out, or do you just kinda just wanna see where the shit goes
- Gezo
A. We have a general outline of the story mapped out, with major events, paths of the girls, etc. Some things we dont have mapped out are because we want to let the story flow by itself and write along that flow. I'm a big ideas guy, and I find out that when I write stuff down and think "God damn, that's a banger," that sometimes I'll turn around and write the scene and think, "Wow, this is shit!"
I think having some space for new ideas and revisions are important, but the major plot points are all planned out.
Q: I've noticed there are sometimes lawful, neutral and chaotic choices available. Relationship stats with specific characters are obvious, but what do those alignment stats do? Is it to do with endings, dialogue choices, different LI focusing, or something else?
- Elbee
A: Using CNL to stat-lock certain relationships was an idea I had, but since we didn't introduce it in the first 2 releases, I think we've dropped the idea.
It definitely has to do with dialogue choices. I'm not sure if you guys even notice by now, but the only thing it has affected at the time of writing this is dialogue, but just small statements by MC. In the future, it will affect dialogue choices, events, and even eventually, completely change the story- POSSIBLY. It's kind of up in the air right now.
Q:What is the difference between Summer friendship and love points? Are you out of her route if you don't have enough love points?
- Meiri
A: So, before, the values were "love" and "relationship", which is much more confusing than what it is now. I'm glad we changed that.
I DO have a specific reasoning for the way her stats work. It's essentially the same as how relationship points work, where if MC is under a certain amount of relationship points with a character, they're off their path, either for the moment or permanently. With Summer, I felt the MC would always be around her, and it didn't feel right for me to suggest any form where they don't at least have a friendship, because of how the story works.
I don't plan on dumping any characters from the story if you're not on the path. More than anything, it's just a different way of me doing things, because why not?
Q

oes Lampy love Fonsyy?
- Fonsyy
A: Unfortunately, Yes.
Q: As a dedicated developer of the adult visual novel genre, what do you think has been the most challenging aspect of developing one of these games that you did not expect?
-Gezo
A. Honestly, everything.
I have seen a ton of people lambaste us for our release being late. I did address multiple times throughout the development process that this was due to health issues for me, family issues for Farmer, and our day jobs for... well... all of us. On top of programming (and programmer) issues, tech issues (Even just yesterday, Krash's computer had to be taken into the shop), our original artist dropping out due to real life issues... it's been hell. But, sadly, a lot of this has been partly due to my naivete.
There have been numerous times in the project where I've been like, "Well, Summer's Gone does this, why can't we do it?" Among that with other games, just to find out how difficult it is. Like, I often wonder if the people complaining about art in games have ever even tried Daz. The first time opened that program, I was so overwhelmed I didn't touch it again for months, when I decided I needed to learn it, just in case we have any more art issues. Even writing has been much harder than I expected as it went on, trying to write properly, coding into it, etc. I have a very easy time writing with some characters, and a harder time with others.
I think the hardest thing really comes down to the learning process, and it never gets easier. I struggle making a single render, and there's people who are putting out 30 of them a day. There's a HUGE gap between the experienced and the inexperienced, I just have to get used to it.
Thanks guys! Looking to put out the devlog soon!
