Overview

I've completed a comprehensive English localization for the game, transforming the original Japanese text into a Western fantasy setting while preserving the core story and gameplay elements. This translation reimagines the feudal Japanese setting with Western names and cultural equivalents.

What's Included

This localization package includes three main files:

1. NonJpn_Name_table.txt - Complete Character & Entity Names
  • 418 entries fully translated (100% coverage)
  • All character names westernized
  • Class and role names adapted to Western fantasy equivalents
  • Location and faction names reimagined
2. NonJpn_Text_Event.txt - Event Dialogue & Tutorials
  • 74 entries translated (94.9% coverage)
  • Story event text and character dialogue
  • Tutorial messages and briefings
  • 4 entries intentionally omitted (placeholders or system text)

Cultural Adaptation Approach
  1. Character Names: Transformed to Western equivalents while:
    • Preserving character personality and role
    • Maintaining phonetic connections where appropriate (Yaroemon → Yaromon)
    • Keeping exotic names that enhance the fantasy setting (Yoruka, Karura, Azusa)
  2. Setting Reimagination:
    • Feudal Japanese → Western Fantasy Kingdom
    • Maintains the original power dynamics and political intrigue
    • Samurai culture → Knightly/Noble culture equivalent
  3. Dialogue Style:
    • Natural English that flows well
    • Maintains formality levels (honorifics → titles like "Lord," "Princess," "Master")
    • Preserves character voice and personality
  4. Gameplay Terms:
    • Clear, accessible English
    • Standard fantasy RPG terminology
    • Maintains all mechanical clarity

  • Name_table.txt: 100% Complete (418/418 entries)
  • Text_Event.txt: 95% Complete (74/78 entries)
  • ✅ Text_Event_Prod.txt: 98.7% Complete (142/144 entries)
What's Not Translated:
  • Some placeholder system messages
  • Future expansion content entries
  • The UI (This might be next, for now the MTL translation is fine for UI)
  • Debug/development text
Installation Instructions
  1. Locate your game's StreamingAssets folder
    HAGOKORO_Data\StreamingAssets

  2. Drop the files into the directory replacing the existing NonJpn files
  3. The game should recognize and load the custom localization when you select "Non-Japanese" from the title
  4. Verify in-game that character names and dialogue appear in English
Note: Make sure to back up your original files before installing!

I've now finished the first draft of my localization with all events localized. All that is left to do is clear up some dialogue that is missing the variable names and sometimes it has the speaker's name in the dialogue.

I'd like to start off by saying this:
I am but one man. I am no mind reader, I am no voice of the people, and I am not any sort of representative. Everything I say is my opinion and my opinion alone. Other people may share it, and other people may not share it, but I make no claims as to knowing how many are on either side of that.

I'm not going to go off on you for translating. I never want to discourage that. Translating is ONLY a good thing. We always need more translators, and I know from attempting to do so myself a while back just how much a hassle it is. So I have nothing but props for you for doing it. Genuinely, thank you for taking the task upon yourself and seeing it through.

But I feel a very important thing to remember is this:
You are not a writer, and this is not your story.
You are a translator, and this story is made by someone else. You need to respect that.

In my opinion, translators should not be doing some of the things you've done.
Like ALL of point 1 and 2.
The whole "western fantasy reimagining" thing. Just... why? It wasn't needed at all, in my eyes. Because this very explicitly is NOT a western fantasy, and it's clear that was NEVER what it was intended to be. The "samurai culture" that you've gotten rid of is what this story was based around. It was the entire point. And now it's just gone.

You didn't need to change the character's names. You didn't need to change the setting. You didn't need to do ANY of that.

Now, the titles? I'm fine with some of the those being changed, because they make sense. Miko to Shrine Maiden? Oiran to Courtesan? "x-sama" to "Lord X" and other such things? I'm fine with those. They're accurate translations, or accurate enough. They weren't 100% needed, but I understand there's people who don't know that stuff or don't automatically make the connection, so I don't mind it.
Some other ones, like Ashigaru for example, did NOT need to be changed.

Did you have your reasons for doing this? I'm sure you did. But like I said, I'm not a mind reader. And, to me, this reads as changing things solely to change things. That's something you should never do.

I had more stuff to say, but it all came into my head when I was about to go to sleep, and this is just the stuff I remember now that I'm awake.

Maybe I'm overreacting. Maybe this is a stupid thing to get worked up over. Maybe no one else cares, and I'm the only one who does. But I need to say it anyways. Because in my eyes, translators are supposed to make changes only when needed.

Take, for example, a joke that works because of the structure of the Japanese language. How do you translate that? There's different answers to this, and I've seen different answers to this, but my philosophy is this:
- Is it possible to make it work in English? If so, do it. If not, move down a point.
- Is it possible to make another very similar joke that still gets the point across? If so, do it and add a translator's note about it. If not, move down a point.
- If you can't do either of the above points to make it work, translate it literally and add a translator's note about it.

And this stuff... well, it just doesn't follow that philosophy. In my opinion, all that does is make for a worse end product, and erode my trust. I can't, in good conscience, trust it now to be faithful anymore. Because it isn't.

That's about it. If I remember more of the stuff I wanted to say, or come up with more stuff I want to say, I'll either edit this post or make another. Not sure. But... yeah.

Hey man, just wanted to pitch my opinion in on this and say that I'm with you on this, even as something who thinks that a lot of the modern discussion around translation and localization is overblown. I appreciate and respect the work that's gone into the translation, but I genuinely fail to see the point to Westernizing a Japanese porn game that specifically takes place in a Japanese setting. Like, I hate to knock genuine effort, but this isn't like TV execs trying to figure out if foreign media would sell to a domestic audience. If you're on this thread, you're probably into hentai so I can't imagine seeing Japanese terms and names being such a big issue. I'm not gonna say it's on par with Jelly Donut rice balls, Sailor Uranus and Neptune being cousins, or even Alicefreeze versus Alipheese, but I just don't see the reasoning that warranted this decision? That's just my two cents though.

This (for me) made various parts of the content more relatable for me as I played it through but I can fully respect it might not for others and I might have over compensated where the MTL felt completely alien. I also think I wanted to make something that wasn't just like the MTL again and possibly got carried away. Again, I appreciate the feedback though.

Every mistake is just another opportunity to learn, so far as I'm concerned. I advise this be taken as one. That you've owned up and taken it on the chin does make me respect you, because far too many people either don't or can't do that. Rather, they'd somehow take any criticism as a personal attack instead. I'm glad to see you aren't one of them.

In my eyes, translating isn't a project of profit. Of course, I won't deny that there IS profit in it, but that should be far less a motivation than passion. The last thing I ever want to do is take away someone's passion, because it's a beautiful thing to have. You ever want to translate again? Go ahead. Far from stopping you, I'll be supporting you doing it. All I ask is what you've already promised: to remember this in the future. Because there are pitfalls on the path, and some of them are pretty easy to trip into if you don't watch out for them.

The original work has an inherent integrity that shouldn't be violated. The creator of it made it how they made it for a reason, and no one else has a right to change it.

yeah you over did it. you should also consider the visuals when making these decisions too after all if your looking at a obviously oriental setting the over abundance of wester names and terms can be a little jarring to say the least.

It seems like there is 2 more bugfixes after version 1.07. About Unity and Onedrive, though i dont understand. Hopefully we can get latest version files.
