After meeting up with the merchant again in the Market, you can meet him at the 'Three Bucks' place in the Residents.
When you have sex with him and his guards, you choose the 'Escalate Anal (Requires Greater Orifice Stretch)'. Afterwards, you will get a skill of 'Lesser Fear Resistance'. This should be enough to not fail the skillcheck with the prisoner. I don't think there's much point in passing the skillcheck, or whether this will lead to a different option later on.
