Happy 2nd Anniversary Blog!
Here we are. 2 years since the release of Origin Story 0.1.0.
It hasn’t always been easy. I live, breathe and sleep Origin Story, so that means a huge part of my life now revolves around this game. It occupies my thoughts almost all the time, often much to the annoyance of my wife who’ll find herself asking me questions with no answer because I’m too busy staring into space and thinking up dialogue. It keeps me awake at night, sometimes with anxiety, sometimes with ideas just blossoming in my brain that rattle around it until I must get up and write them down. Sometimes, balancing a full-time job, being a parent and a husband, and developing a game in every spare second that I have, is just too much and my mind and body often pay the price.
But still, even after all of that, I fucking love working on this game. I love the stories. I love my girls. I love improving my skills with Daz and Ren’Py. I love being able to make people laugh, be horny and sometimes sad. Mostly, I love the support that you guys give me. I love knowing that there are people out there who genuinely think my story is awesome.
Ever since I was young, I’ve always wanted to create something that other people could enjoy. Whether that was from childhood dreams of wanting to make movies or write comics, to my attempts to write short stories and novels, to making music. I can’t say I expected the thing that would "get out there" would be a porn game, but honestly, I’m completely fine with it.
Every day I’m bewildered by how much the game has grown in terms of popularity and support and I wanted to use this opportunity to gush a little over my community and some specific people worthy of praise, so get your umbrellas ready.
Supporting the development of adult games is a risk. The adult gaming landscape is rocky right now, and on top of that, you have developers out there abandoning their games left and right and often not for the best reasons, or those that are purposefully stretching out the development of their projects seemingly just to milk your support dry. I know that there are a lot of people out there, whose opinion of AVN development has been so tainted by such things, that they can’t bring themselves to support anything but a completed game. And that really sucks, because then comes the vicious cycle of the developers who can’t complete their projects simply because they’re under-supported and can’t afford to devote their time to them.
I’m so glad that there are so many of you still willing to try and break that cycle because you realize that there are also genuinely hard-working, committed and awesome developers out there who are doing their absolute best to bring you games that you love and are worthy of your support. I’m so pleased that those of you subbed right now realize that I am trying to be one of them.
So, with that in mind, I wanted to start with a general thank you to all of you. The support you give me blows me away. Without it, there would be no Origin Story. Thank you so much. I genuinely love you guys and I am so grateful for you.
And now, for some very specific thank yous:
My supervillains (the mods on the discord, for those of you who don’t use discord), Panda, Crow and JeffersonSound - I’m not going to say too much about them right now, because there might be something else coming up later in the week about those three.
:Amber:
The friendly developers who have supported me, offered me advice, hooked me up with certain contacts, cross-promoted with me, allowed me to reference their games, even the ones who haven’t even played OS but have just been good people. Having other developers have your back when they’re already so busy making their own games means the world to me. So, thank you to: Amomynous Games, FireValleyGames, DogCat, Tropecita Games, Saint McDaniels, Droosk, AlterWorlds, StoneFox Studios, TakoYuh, FlipDaShit, Daggum, Creator Tom, Impious Monk, Caribdis, RJ Rhodes, Zetan, Jestur, Wilson Wonka – not all of them will see it, but fuck it, whatever. Please check out their games if you haven’t already (or when they come out… SAINT).
To anyone who supports, or have previously supported, me on an Omega, God or Legend tier, while I’m thankful for any support, the support that you guys give me astounds me (especially those who expect no custom benefits in return). I won’t specifically name you all, because I know not all of you like to be named, so please just know that I am incredibly grateful for you.
To anyone who takes up their own time to come and put myself and the testers and proofreaders to shame by reporting bugs, grammar issues, typos etc… and often on a mass scale. You guys are the real ones.
To anyone who spreads the good word about the game, or even just certain paths (e.g. Rehwyn: unofficial advocate for the normal Lucía path). Anyone who recommends my game to anyone else. Anyone who leaves a review anywhere. Anyone who voted for Origin Story in the Rookie of the Year 2024 awards or the AVN of the Year 2025 Poll. Anyone who wishlisted the game on steam. Origin Story is where it is right now because of you guys.
And that’s it for my thanks. I’m sure there’s more I should be thanking, so I apologize if you have slipped my mind while I’ve been writing this.
In terms of normal monthly update stuff, I don’t have much to give you on progress of the game, as I already gave a lot away last month. Just know that I’m still working as hard as I can in what little time I have and have just under 1400 renders ready on Chapter 9. There is still a little way to go, but most of the remaining scenes should be relatively easy to breeze through. However, there is one particular scene that might be a bit more complex than the rest. Keep an eye peeled this week for a hint at what is to come in this chapter. I’m still working on the Steam release too, but that’s still going to be a while off while we wait for the proofreads, the translations and the wishlists.
In terms of other celebrations for the 2nd anniversary, there are a lot of surprises and fun stuff coming every day this week, multiple times a day even, so keep your eyes peeled. Some of it is behind-the-scenes stuff only available for the Trainee tiers and above, but for the most part you’ll be spoiled. There’s also the hottest special render you’re ever going to see, and it’s someone I know all of you are dying to see more of.
And that’s it. Thanks again! I’ll see you next month for the regularly scheduled monthly blog, and next year for the third anniversary!
