Sometimes you can thanks special renders for something later appearing in the story. Like the Anna/Arwen/Ev foursome idea came from a special render.
That's better,it was just a let down by some games like Maid To Please, where the start picture isn't in the game, or just to name one the start picture of no more money.

So if it's different in this game, I'm all for it...

To be clear, most special renders or the exact frame might not appear in the AVN. But JDOR has shown a willingness to sometimes explore good ideas that come from these special renders.

also I think the Lucia story wasn't planned either originally. But I could be wrong on that one. But yeah I do remember the other one you mentioned.

Yes, that's correct. Her whole Princess Pause storyline idea came from a fan render request. She wouldn't even be a potential main LI at this point if not for that.

Development Blog - Dec 25

Hi all.

I hope everyone has had an awesome holiday season, whatever you were doing over it.

I’m just going to do a quick development update at the moment as the anniversary blog was a lot of information and I don’t have much more of an update since then as I’ve been extremely busy over the Christmas period being a dad and all that (all while still Daz posing like a madman in the evening).

The main piece of news is that I’m about… maybe 30 renders off finishing the posing the final scene of Chapter 9. I won’t give anything away about what this scene entails, but it’s very different and personally, I think it’s really awesome. I hope you guys love it as much as I do.

At the moment, Chapter 9 is clocking in at 1905 renders, probably closer to 1950 once I’m done. So yes, absolutely the biggest update yet for render count.

The bad news is that I’ve been so fixated on the posing and making sure my render PC constantly has a queue, that I haven’t touched any of the other stuff that comes with an each update yet. So, I still have ALL of the postworking to do, the audio work, the lewd scene writing, the testing/proofreading. On top of that, I’m still working on preparing the Steam release which is slowing things down somewhat too. So yeah, there’s still going to be a bit of a wait, but I’m working as hard as I possibly can.

That’s all I’ve got for you this month.

As I don’t even have time to do a New Year render this time around, have a happy new year when it comes!

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but could always hire someone to do the animations. I know some AVN devs do. Has JDOR ever commented on that?

I don't specifically recall anything like that, but I also can understand devs not wanting to hire someone else to work on their game, I've seen many cases where it backfired badly. Be those writers, coders or animators.

Honestly, I think the one animation OS has wasn't bad. It doesn't try to do too much and of course the fact that it's an Amber scene obviously simplified things quite a bit. Too many devs try to show too much with their animations and it results in everything from clunky and robotic scenes to downright terrifying scenes with arms flailing in bizarre ways *cough* City of Broken Dreamers *cough*. Other devs go the lazy route and use the same tired pre-rendered Daz animations or they use AI animations... In any of those cases, I think I'd rather the dev just fuck off with the animations and just focus on still renders.

If Jdor opted to add more animations to OS (and I hope he does eventually), I think minimal, smooth movements with more localized camera extents would be the way to go. Closer, intimate camera shots allow the dev to hide immersion breaking imperfections elsewhere in the scene while also reducing the scope of the task.. And most importantly it focuses the viewer on the bouncy parts. IMO, if there's an example VN that perfectly illustrates this, it's Finding Cloud 9. Smooth, tight, sensual, and natural movements with angle changes to emphasis the girls' ASSets.

From time to time, he's tried his hand at animations when he had some free time to do so between updates. The verdict so far however is that he's not satisfied with the quality to consider allocating time to them fully for now though, since doing so would not be up to his expected standards and take a lot of time away from developing each update.

Don't quote me on this, but I want to say I remember some comments that he might go back and retroactively add animations later on once the fully story is out, even if he doesn't start adding them during production.

yeah kinda. But whatever, I'd rather have no animations than some AI slop. Or badly done normal animations. Sex scenes are still beautifully done without.

and they are shit animations mostly with some notable exceptions. Monotonic "pump twice in the same motion 3 times" and sex scene done, and now I can say the game has animations. Well done :HideThePain: They don't have any writing during, or they are cringe af. So yeah in some games I skip even whole sex scenes

I enjoy animations but it depends on the devs skill level. I would rather the dev not use animations if they lack the skill too, or they want to rely on AI.

Yeah, I'd probably say that only like... 5-10% of the AVNs I've read that include animations are actually enhanced by it. In the others, the animations have a neutral or actually weakening impact - often just to tick a box because it's expected.
