Well, summing up all 1357 pages in one hot shit take: I sure do hope Eva never goes for a 2 protagonists game again. Cause let's be honest, she DID write herself into a corner, and if there ever is a "chapter 11" it will be exponentially worse than chapter 10. :Kappa:
Well since ORS has quite a few years before being completed, don't bother thinking so soon about a next game.

it's a porn game, how hard can the plot be? i would argue that the hardest parts are programing and the art. you guys act like Eva is the next edgar allan poe or something.
Don't confuse simple plot with easy writing, you're condescending towards "porn" game. It's not a basic novel (kinetic) where you can change nothing but more like dozens of novels (branching) at the same time.

I mean, I will put more effort than you did to your reading comprehension, but the number of variables she comes up in each episode certainly affects the pace of her writing. That's what I said. I have no idea how you fumbled it so hard.

What people don't realize is that even if those die-hard fans are right and Eva Kiss is indeed working hard on ORS (which in my opinion is preposterous), it is even worse for the destiny of the game.
If it is indeed much more difficult to make the next chapter compared to the last and that difficulty is really growing exponentially, basically it means that the game is never going to be completed and probably will be abandoned sooner or later.
Let's say that now it takes 8 months to make a chapter. It is safe to say then that Eva Kiss will need a couple of years to make, let's say, Chapter 12 and probably 5 years for Chapter 13 and so on.
The time between chapters of ORS:

In any case the future of ORS is bleak. The game is never going to be finished either because Eva Kiss has become lazy or because it has become too complex to develop.
I honestly have no clue of what's going to happen, but I do know it can be a lot to deal with, as I mentioned in my first post. You either streamline the script and variables, or keep adding and dealing to what came before as she seems to be doing. Either way, I wouldn't want to be alone tackling something like this.

Yup, dude had an aneurysm over nothing.

This week I've been writing and creating some new illustrations. I'd say Lena's part is around 70% done and this chapter has already surpassed the lengthiest one yet, Chapter 7, which had 22k+ lines of code. Chapter 10 will probably reach the 30k mark, but we'll see. I can see the end getting near and it's helping me stay focused and productive.

As always I can't talk much without spoiling things, but I can share with you the outfit remakes I talked about in my last post.

First of all, I want to make clear that the Athletics outfit is not meant to be worn at the gym, it's supposed to act as a casual/party outfit inspired by gymwear aesthetics. I had the feeling it didn't had that vibe before, and I wasn't using it for clubbing scenes. I tried several color combinations to go with the repurposed top. The hoodie will still be used in casual or colder contexts, so I'm not doing away with it completely, but it won't feature as prominently.

I'm currently leaning towards D, but let me know which one you think is cooler in the poll down below. Or you can also suggest a different color I haven't tried (edits are welcomed, you can send them to me through Discord)

Okay so Lena's part is 2/3rd done, meaning we can expect Chapter 10 in December and luckily not in January like I feared.

I'm gonna guess December 15th.

Looks like we can forget about November and get ready for the Christmas present. But I am glad that the weekly reports have really become weekly, and not two or three weeks.

Assuming
1. the game won't be abandoned,
2. is still expected to be 20 chapters long,
3. chapter 10 to 20 have the same size (and not expending even further with every new chapter) and
4. no change in work pace,

we can expect 5-10 years further development, so the game is completed around 2027 to 2032. Optimistically a chapter doesn't take half/ a full year any more and the work is distributed, so it may take less years.

With the minimum patreon of 2$ (not including taxes) per month, this could be 120-240$ in total for a videogame onwards. Much more for higher patreon levels and not counting the money already spent until now.

The conclusion is that patreons 1. don't mind paying for years for a single game and 2. they pay way above what a videogame usually costs. Or a good amount of them are not aware of it and/or don't bother too much what happens with their monthly 2-5$.

I have no issues with the producer, it baffles me how low standards their customers have. When Eva asked if they should stop patreon until a new update is released, 80% refused and wanted to keep paying. There isn't a high concern noticable, if anything, Evas comments of her breaks and vacations are cheerished and encouraged.

I was on patreon and the discord for a while, but left because of the high amount of toxic positivity. Eva isn't regarded as a producer who provides us a service we pay for, but some glorified cool older sister that we connect with on a personal level and who we want to encourage and be part of her life throughout the games working process. This thread has its own chunk of toxicity and immaturity, but at least is more open to criticism.

This isn't about Eva's patrons, it's about all patrons. Take DrPinkCake's Patreon as an example, DPC has been doing Chapter 9 of Being a DIK for 7 and half months and clearly he has no intention of making episodes shorter. The Patreon system counts that the creator has fans and those fans give money to them regardless of how long the new "product" came out. Eva lost some patrons just because she wasted time remastering the game, but if the remaster didn't exist and the time to make this episode was the same she would have fewer complaints here.

People get mad at you here if you just point out how long the Chapter 10 has been in the work.

This is not a correct standard to apply. If you just want to buy the game, you only need to pay once for the current version. A long-term subscription is meant for supporting the development, not purchasing a product. (With the addition of some optional rewards such as voting in polls).

Most adult games are one-man operations or maybe a small team at most. They don't have the backing of a larger corporation to take the losses if the game doesn't sell well, it would be coming out of their own pocket. And if they quit their job in the interim, they need income to support themselves.

There is high demand for these games, but relatively little supply (especially when one considers various subgenres and niches). So people are willing to actively fund them through Patreon, as many developers would not be able to work on them otherwise.

If you don't like it, just wait for the Steam version. Then it is a simple and fair exchange, $ for game. But the two should not be confused.

I mean, who knows. Eva's apparently way past the 22k already, and Lena's part is currently at around 70% completion. She's started working on Lena's part in August if I'm not mistaken, so judging by that I'd say it's not entirely impossible that she might be done with it towards the end of November. Unlikely, but not impossible. :)

Gotta agree with GrigoriRasputin and also say that patrons are not the same as customers. Neither are they the same as investors. They are supporters in the grandest sense of the word. From antiquity to the present day, most great artists (e.g. Van Gogh) starved. The lucky ones (e.g. Mozart and Beethoven) relied on one or a few generous patrons to survive. Patreon is just a modern-day way to spread patronage around and bundle the generosity of thousands of small tokens of support.

No one is compelled to be a patron. Artists, in turn, aren't beholden to their patrons. During Mozart's time, young budding composers--if they wanted to eat--got a job with the Church writing hymns and the like. Mozart was too unruly for the Church and wasn't interested in composing only hymns and church music. Fortunately for him, a noble named Baron Gottfried van Swieten was a wealthy fan of music who not only paid Mozart a salary, he provided generous gratuities. He paid for performances where Mozart could display his works and gain new patrons. Thanks to the Baron, during Mozart's relatively brief life he was able to compose almost 600 pieces of music, among them some of the most well-known and celebrated works ever written.

Now, of course EvaKiss is not Mozart. EvaKiss is making a pornographic visual novel. Music afficionados weep listening to Mozart. Horny dudes jack off playing EvaKiss. Even if society continues in the direction of "Idiocracy," neither ORS nor any other title on this site is likely to stand the test of time. But the patronage idea is the same.

If EvaKiss abandons the game and disappears, a la ICSTOR, she will lose her patrons. But until then, patrons will continue supporting her as she creates her vision. Same as Baron van Swieten let Mozart create his masterpieces. We're all entitled to our opinions and frustrations about delays etc., but given that the people here aren't even customers (since they're not paying for anything), our views on EvaKiss' work ethic etc. really don't matter.

No. She's not close. She's decent for a porn game writer... well, given the low bar, she's very good for a porn game writer. But that's it.

What you're not getting is the path branching. Edgar Alan Poe didn't need to give the option to: Quote the raven; cook the raven; bat eyes at the raven; try to date the raven and see where it takes you. Turns out the raven's got a couple of friends and you started cheating with the sparrow. Or you can choose to date the raven exclusively and take one of several paths for kinky raven content. But it turns out you can control the raven too and she's got a nest of eggs at home to take care of. Sometimes the magpie stops by and the raven can be mean, nice or sexy to it. But that completely changes the story because the magpie is friends with your goose and your goose took a gander of that hot bird orgy involving seven different pelicans and five optional mating dances, all with their own unique outcomes. But that's just the beginning of the first 6 pages, with so many branching pathways that Edgar Alan Poe says "fuck it" and goes on vacation for a few weeks before the poets at the Absinthe bar start grumbling "no good, lazy, milking gothic horror writer. The writing is shit now, too. WTF with all the bird sex?"

It's not the most amazing writing, but the complexity involved in branching paths and the problems that could entail in cohesive narrative are incomparable to most other lone-writer vns & definitely much more complex than any choose-your-own-adventure novel out there.

This game will never be finished. 1 year and counting for 1 chapter, 10 chapters to go, it’e not hard to predict the end(that we’ll never see) like AWAM.
Well, you may have forgotten about the remaster. Chapter 10 is being worked on for 6 months now. That's not exactly great, but 12 months > 6 months, atleast in my book. I feel like comparing this project to AWAM is almost a crime. AWAM's current estimates for its completion are ranging from 34 to 40 years, that is if you're optimistic. Even if Eva were to double her development time in upcoming chapters, she would still be able to release 3-4 entire games before L&P's AWAM is getting anywhere close to its ending.

Yes, 2022 has been a bad year for ORS, but it's still lightyears ahead of shitshows like AWAM&Co.
