That would honestly surprise me. I'd feel cheated a little bit if I couldn't get a lesbian relationship with Holly because of that, given that she admits to having had romantic interest in women before.
Agreed, Holly mentioned she had a crush on a girl or something in school but it didn't work out. Can't remember the details, but Holly is clearly very bi.

Alright that's interesting. I usually have Ian go with Alison even if I play the game through without her in mind for him, because I prefer that Holly and Lena meet on their own terms.

What in the sex shop triggers the further change? Is it buying the sex toy? I always pick the dialogue option about disliking fake cocks, just because I appreciate the option being there.
They are not really used for much yet, but Holly has 2 non-standard variables (she also has 2 standard ones measuring affection and romantic interest from Ian/Lena).

Thanks for taking the time to post this.

I don't suppose there's somewhere, with ease of reading, that goes into all of these character variables in the game and speculates/state what they're used for?

What gives? I'm pretty sure i've done everything right with her so far.

Ren'Py code (.rpy files) is pretty human readable with a good text editor, if you want to play with that you can check the unren tool. EvaKiss doesn't seem to place comments on the code that gets released with the game's builds so speculating what the variables do is mostly a game of checking their names and where/how they are used.

I do want to caution that like, while speculating with variables can be fun, the game is in development and sometimes devs create variables to keep track of things they have an idea for in the future, but they might change their mind and the variables may end up without a meaningful use.

For example, the variable that keeps track of Ian's romantic interest for Holly, "ian_go_holly", seems to pretty much get replaced with a switch after Holly first invites Ian to go to a book convention with her at some point in the future, the switch is set to "true" if Ian says he'd like to do it at some point, gets set to "false" otherwise. And so the only use the "ian_go_holly" variable saw was for some minor dialogue changes and as a way to bypass an affection requirement for Ian to have the option of wanting to go to a book convention with Holly (if ian_go_holly is greater than 0 then the option is available regardless of the affection score between Ian and Holly, and after the switch is set the variable isn't used for anything else up to this point).

Fair enough. I'll keep it in mind if I decide to look into the files for myself.

As you seem to have familiarised yourself somewhat with some of the variables, might I ask if there are any you yourself are curious about what might be for, or that you think stand out in particular?

I'm simply making the observation that, in order to get an approval point with Holly in that scene, it also feeds into her desire to become more like Lena. Not saying she hasn't had lesbian feelings before, but to successfully bring Lena/Holly together, the scene at the Sex Shop seems to suggest she needs to change her personality in the long run.

I did notice the 'encourage_Holly' variable, however, I think it's going to end up being a Jessica situation from GGGB, where Holly job/profession by the end will be affected by how confident she is in herself and her writing. I don't think she'll stop writing in either situation, just that a confident Holly might make the switch to writing full time because she and others believe in her.

From what I can see, it's 'holly_change' that seems more likely to affect what relationships she can and will engage in.

Off the top of my head, not really, their names normally make them mostly intuitive. There are interesting breadcrumbs where it can be fun to speculate how exactly EvaKiss will use them but they aren't exactly secrets by themselves.

I think it's more likely that it would be used to change the nature of their potential relationship, not necessarily stand as a gate to hinder it. My guess would be that Lena and Holly can get in a relationship regardless of variables but that how Holly develops in this relationship will depend on Ian's involvement and these variables.

To me it just seems harsh that Holly would be locked behind an invisible point total, only obvious choices and approval should ward for that. I think it makes for a more fun games design if the option to get with her stands open to those that wish to be faithful with her but the experession of their relationship change.

Very much true.
Still i wouldn't be surprised if that were to happen since Lena so far is only getting the corruption routes while Ian gets the actual good relationships. Have to agree with what Avaron said some days ago about Lena's paths being kinda meh after the latest update if you aren't going for a full corruption route...

From a romantic and pornographic porn of view I also agree.

I still think there's some interesting nuances to Lena's life, with her modeling and musical pursuits, that at least holds my attention for now. We've been given a few options to be positive/negative/neutral towards Seymour and I'm looking forward to seeing if there is eventually going to be some grander manipulation game that Lena might win if she's smart and careful.

I'd also just love to see her succeed with her music. One of the things I appreciated about GGGB was that you didn't have to play the corruption game and Ashley could still achieve an impressive start to her professional career.

It may lock it out in the sense you're gonna have to hit some of those change points for Holly to feel comfortable and equal in such a relationship with Lena. It's true that it's probably going to be affected by how many of those points you have. Too many 'change_holly' points, and they might just be slutty friends with benefits. Some 'change_holly' points and a lot of affection might get you the romance outcome. Not enough 'change_holly' points and Holly probably won't feel any more good enough for Lena than she does Ian.

I think the game would probably have a more dedicated variable for sluttyness, if Holly will go all out slutty at all.
I got the impression from how Eva intends to put more emphasis on story in this game, that she wouldn't necessarily have as drastic changes to characters personalities as we saw in GGGB.

I suppose time will tell. I'm still fairly confident that no invisible numbers will stop the Lena/Holly romance. There will probably be something that determines its ultimate success though. I think most relationships in GGGB did too, for example the character of Eva wouldn't stay with Ashley if she was too publically slutty.

Well, yes, I was being facetious with the slutty friends with benefits comment. Although given how they're setting Holly up in the club scene, there's certainly the potential for Holly to be more casually open to sex in future, so where these invisible points go may be something you have to pay attention to in the future if you're set on it being a purely romantic relationship. As you say, ORS is more nuanced in a lot of ways.
