Lena, on the other hand, supports her parents on her own. She has problems with rent, works two or three jobs, and has to make sacrifices to survive, dating assholes like Robert or even worse like Seymour.

Alison is perpetual trash. Everything about that character is pure distilled trash.
If you play 'risky' with her Ian gets the "cum inside but not for real its just a kink bro" version which is trash.
If you play lovey-dovey safe she makes Ian wear rubber non-stop and it constantly frustrates him.
The 'voyeur'/cuck path is obviously hyper-fetishy so fuck that.
There's one damn path where Alison is ok to fool with and that's casual.
Sofia would never ask Ian to wear a condom. She'd ask for crack money sure, but at least Ian gets to go raw.

This is simply not true. Lena can be a shrewd businesswoman in this pairing, fulfilling the contract and reaping the benefits, but without any illusions about Seymour's nature and without ever letting him touch her. She's walking a tight rope and she knows it, but it's interesting to see where it goes. I don't think there's anything vapid about her actions if you opt for this variant.

Wits Lena for sure, and to a certain degree Slutty Lena can feed off Seymour's self disillusions of modern medici, make a buck and exit before really needing to gave up anything that they are not willing to, but posh Lena w/ low wits and sub Lena are easy prey. Which are (high wits and high lust) the more interesting ways a playthrough can go for the character

It's true for how I phrased it, "IF" you let her give in. Sure if you don't you can keep him at bay, but she can also be a super slut, in love with Ian and if you let her give in, she swaps to vapid gold digging bitch, the extreme.
I'm not talking about the way the player would play to avoid it, just that the change is extreme, like the cuck route and Holly, both IF you let it happen.

There is definitely a double standard at work here. Male players who like harem games find nothing interesting when they play Lena, but are fine if Ian hits everything over and over, including Lena. Romance players can choose who they like and complain about everyone else. Slut lovers don't like Ian's side too much, but still find things to complain about.
It's a pretty deep game on all ends, and it can cater to a number of fetishes, styles, kinks, and this creates controversy over opinions, which are always just opinions. Not gonna change someone's mind if they are locked in a bubble of whatever they like.

The thing is "giving in" can mean two things here -- giving in and working with Seymour instead of rejecting his offer, or giving in to his sexual advances. You didn't really specify which of those you meant. I'll presume you meant the latter, while i was pointing out there's variations to the former.
Also as far as i can tell even in the case of giving in sexually if in close relationship isn't really automagically turning Lena into some "vapid gold digger"; at the very least she monologues about cheating on Ian and potentially Holly, and tries to figure out how she should proceed.

I think it was clear, giving in to working with him isn't very extreme, especially early on. Of course I was referring to the sex. Don't leave out the monologue about how Seymour can give her everything she needs, when up to that point she was wary in most of her thoughts, so an extreme change.
My point is it is a game of extremes, romance, wealth, sex, cucking, cheating, there is not a lot of middle ground or hybrid pathing, if you choose everything for a certain path, it all goes to an extreme. This isn't a bad thing necessarily. With everything that is going on, it would be 100 chapters to have less extreme paths along with the current stuff.
