hey, just wanted to add that the whole yggdrassil reveal and then basically instant ascension to godhood is such an anticlimactic way of ending the thing, so I just hope you at least make an alternative route.
Also, wanted to say that I am surprised by how accurate your game is regarding the known facts in the novel, there are only few mistakes here and there which shows your dedication. really is the best fanfic game I have played, hope you will redo it so its even more polished!
Momonga becoming a God (since it's been hinted there's none) and/or Ouroboros playing a final part is very likely imho. Or at least it was back when Overlord H was in development. Haven't read the latest volumes or even watched the latest season. Most of the inaccurate things were probably due to the fact the information wasn't available at the time (or was purposely changed for a reason or another) as at the time I had read the LN an unhealthy amount of times to portray everything as accurately as possible (especially characters' manners).

If there are specific things you'd like to see, or wish were more accurate, do let me know.

I feel like the ascension could make sense after completing Momonga's goal - finding his friends. Why would he not finish that first if he knows that his involvement in the world will be limited severely? I am not sure why but the plotline of the different continent and actual players there were never coming up again, that could and should be the guilds main focus after they conquer the continent and manage to stabilize it as to have a foothold on which they can fallback if the other continent proves to be too much.
That I would expect considering the games plotline, or at the very least - he could have wished for his guildmates to get back, although this part I dont even think momonga has any mental capacity to do, he is both a self pitying and understanding person, or simply put in constant depression. anyway, hope that helps.

Oh, that was only because a sequel was planned. I even hinted at it at the end, but ultimately decided for a remake and eventually might include what I had planned for the sequel in a single game, depending on also how the source material goes.

I see, gonna wait patiently then. Hopefully author makes something decent despite being burnt out...

New update: As mentioned some time back, I've finally finished all the documents and started production (Although some characters were made before that), so from this point on, while suggestions will always be welcome, there's no way for me to integrate anything too big if it conflicts with all the rest, so thank you everyone for participating in this thread and offering valuable feedback and suggestions.

This thread will continue to exist for me to post previews and occasional updates to let everyone know about the progresses made, while you're welcome to join my Patreon, no Overlord updates will be posted there until the project launches... So if you're interested solely on this, just watch/follow this thread.
However, this time around I've created a public poll which will affect my future projects (including this one), so hearing your feedback would be helpful:
The poll also includes a preview of some finalized assets (Albedo).

On other news, after almost seven years (in 24 days!) of making games, I've launched my first project on Steam:
If you want to support me, just wishlisting the game would help me a lot. It's free to wishlist, but it boosts the visibility and reach of my game, so I'd be really grateful if you could wishlist it.

Regardless of how Steam goes, this will always be a hobby first for me, that's why in these past few weeks I have considered the idea of beginning these projects (once ready) before Vox Gremory is completed.
While it's not an announcement/final, at the very least I'm confident I can handle multiple projects (As I have with Entwined Roots, or even Overlord H which began as a side project for me to learn Ren'Py).
If we consider how lengthy Vox Gremory will be, as much as it's impossible for me to burn out, I'd enjoy working on multiple things I like (And I think it's also fair to the people waiting for this).

However, it's also true that during the development of Vox Gremory, I've made mistakes that made me glad I didn't have any other ongoing project on the side which would have had the same exact issues. :HideThePain:
So, while I'm still unsure, at the very least I'd like to wait until Vox Gremory feels stable and refined, and more importantly, I'd like to wait and see if an official Rubedo design will be released, as I remember that would have been helpful early on during Overlord H.

Anyway, enough ranting for now. I'll continue to think whether it's a good idea or not while I continue working on Vox Gremory and creating the assets for this game since I need them either way.
Thank you for reading this far, and if you decide to vote on the poll and wishlist my steam game!

hmm, i think i'm partial to the balance of 2d to 3d you have in vox thus far and think something similar would be good for overlord. but if i had to choose i'd say the 2d. imo it looks like it can better fit overlord's more darker tones when needed. but that's just me and my patreon avoiding ass. :p

do you have a thread here with previews for you new game entwined roots? due to also not having a steam account i can't see shit.:HideThePain:

i wonder if there will ever be a time where 'official' rubedo art is made. i think the series is/was supposed to get wrapped up in 1-2 more LN volumes... if they ever get made. -_- and considering the mostly filler vol 16, i am quite concerned if the series will even have a decent ending since there's still so many plot points to cover. :HideThePain:

Aureole Omega and Rubedo are the biggest ones, never thought that years later they'd still be unknown.

Entwined Roots only has a page on steam right now, I'll be releasing a demo soon to harvest wishlists, so at some point it'll be here on F95Zone.

As for the poll, it seems like I won't have to delete Koikatsu anytime soon x)

just like how even now with the release speed increased, we donno if beserk manga will ever get finished. (maybe the delays are due to casca NTR round 2 backlash? then again too many cucks in japan so who the f knows... >_> )

Hm... Honestly, I don't like the idea of using Koikatsu much, I feel like a 2D look does a much better job, I've also done that with Overlord H already.
However, the poll results (at the moment of writing this) are an almost even 50/50 :HideThePain:

Tiny preview time:
Screenshot 2025-09-03 210805.png
(Map clearly W.I.P)

The original idea and what I've wrote is actually for two games sharing most of the assets: One being a pure visual novel to satisfy people that just want that, with no minigames, either because they don't like them or because disabilities prevent them to enjoy them, while the other would have been a more gamey one where you get to explore The Great Tomb of Nazarick to discover secrets, while still having Quality of Life features of a Visual Novel (Rollback, log, save, etc.) and from feedback, also respected people's time (you could teleport around with the ring, reasonably small maps, etc.).

However, it's clear that there's a big slice of people that really want or like the Koikatsu look, while I'm aware I cannot satisfy everybody, I think that's a pretty big slice.

So, after giving it a few thoughts (admittedly not too much since I'm busy with Steam at the moment), I was thinking what if I make a Koikatsu-focused VN? To make it different from the others (Overlord H and the other two projects) I was thinking I could do "renders" instead of doing the separate background/character style I've used in basically all my projects these years.

I think it would be a proper use of Koikatsu that would satisfy people wanting that style, and it's honestly faster/easier for me to make rather than drawing the assets, which means it'd fit neatly with the idea of launching an Overlord project sooner alongside Vox Gremory.
Of course I'd launch the other two too at some point once all the assets are ready, but I could take my time with it as originally planned, and still don't leave people hanging for years while waiting for an Overlord game from me.

I believe that should work fine for everyone, but of course I need to give it more thought before making a final decision.
Thoughts?

To my personal opinion, I think it's up to you to decide which is best for the game since this is your own masterpiece.
Obviously, the opinion is only from the consideration of romance instead of commercial.
(After all, I'm nothing more than a normal player who likes your game without knowing anything about marketing.)
While the art of the preview picture looks awesome, both styles may be ok for me.
Hope the above helps.

Looking forward to the game.

That's also the same for me, this is my hobby and every decision I take is from a non commercial one. I just genuinely love Overlord world, as I do with DxD and other series I have made a parody game of.

The only commercial decision I took is attempting Steam with another game, hoping that I can turn this more of a legit profession on the side, but ultimately I just make games for fun.

i have no issue with you reusing and possibly improving the 3d assets, however i would say i'd like to see more of the 2d art to use in the more serious or grandiose scenes. especially if you capture even half of the LN cover art style.

I think you misunderstood :p I was talking about reusing most of drawn assets between the 2D VN and 2D RPG/VN mix.
When it comes to the Koikatsu stuff, I won't be reusing anything of Overlord H since it's all outdated at this point.

I'm not sure if I'll be using 2D art in the koikatsu-only game, most likely yes in some form as you cannot portray everything in 3D. Even if it's an after thought, if I end up making the koikatsu-focused third game, I still want it to be as good as possible ofc.
However, at this point in time, I am not even completely sure if it's a good idea.
I just thought about it now after seeing the poll results, and was wondering what you guys following this thread think.

I'll be giving it more thought during this month as I do other stuff (Steam and Vox Gremory), and eventually make an announcement on the 27 of this month, as I believe that if I were to launch a side project, it'd be nice to do it once my page turns 7 years old.

Alright, thank you for considering everything. I think a mix of the two styles could work, there's some things that work better in 3D like animations, but 2D definitely works better for other things. I would say it's a question of balance. I am just happy to play a new version, I loved the original game.

Overlord just needs more games in general, there's a gatcha that looks very good but it's just too grindy.

The Koikatsu-only (mostly?) game I am thinking about won't have any grind or gameplay (Mostly because that'd require a lot more time to design everything, again, for a third game).
I think I want to use the "Rendering images" potential to do more branching decisions and, unlike Overlord H, put more visual expressivity to it.

In a 2D game (like the previous planned two that I am making assets for right now), each "render" needs to be drawn, however in a 3D environment, as long as I have the models, I can take images from multiple angles relatively fast.

So, if I go through with this, I'll be using that potential to make a different game style than what I've been doing these past years, at the very least it'll be a fresh and new experience for me, and hopefully it'll be well liked.

I mean, I already love the 2D chibi sprites in the map. I love that because it makes the game feel like the good old days GBA games.

ah, well that's fine too. though i would say since the 2d art was limited to a handful you'd want to make at least a few more.

also a minor fan of the 8-bit-ish map movement look. as a random suggestion you should make ainz's non canon/side story goofy look an optional, maybe unlockable, reskin. though i think if you go that route you'd need to add some level of battle game play into it just to fit the retro-ish theme. even if it wasn't anything for the main plot but a goofy training thing where ainz personally 'battles' one of the guardians. maybe in the arena on the forest floor. and maybe if you wanted to get real creative having the player control the naz guardians or a harem member and battle against ainz as the 'enemy'. (maybe as a just for fun thing to unlock cosmetics?)

Personally I love the 2d style for the characters but also the 3d background was beautiful. It could look rather well combined imho.
Oh and personally, as others mentioned - albedo's proportions are way too big, but its preference I guess. Still I would prefer that she would at least cover her nipples fully if you are going with 3d models. It makes her look far less graceful than she ought to be. Otherwise I am excited by the development, good luck and have patience to get the project to its end!

Don't worry, that was just a sample, although I am sure that was just some unfortunate shading since her nipples should be lower. Both screenshots were mockups since neither game exists, but the 2D assets are final.
Were the 2D proportions fine?
