The smarter MLB pitchers would, if someone charged the mound, use their non dominant hand to throw punches to avoid possibly injuring their pitching hand. Maybe Edwin smart enough to do that too.
A smarter pitcher would use his dominant hand to throw a ball right at the charging player.

- That's a cut bandage, not a sprained/broken hand bandage.

- He's not a pitcher or a fighter.

Somehow I doubt that it is Edwin. The question about Ian´s mom does not fit! We and Edwin know since his birthday party that Mina knows Grace.
Well...
* there isn't many people who would refer to Killian per "Ian", i think.
* it's not Ian in the picture because he wouldn't refer to his own mom this way.
* if it turns out Mina is sitting with some other guy like that, there's gonna be riots :sneaky:

Edwin is asking Mina whether she met Ian's mom.

About his hand: we should check whether Edwin is left-handed. If he's right-handed, he did not punch anything (a mirror?) or broke a glass in anger for sure.

Is this really a thing? TIL, if so. Because I'm mostly left-handed but my instinct to punch usually goes to my right hand. Maybe I'm more ambidextrous than I thought...

I agree with all of this. And to these points, I will add that I can't recall anyone else ever getting this kind of POV view of events, especially not when it comes to the LIs (mom's videos don't count). I will be very, very surprised if that isn't Edwin.

How about Donovan, Chuck or the music guy?:sneaky:
But I agree it is probably Edwin, still the question is a bit strange since as I said we know at least since the birthday party that Mina knows Grace. I doubt TD has forgotten his own writing, maybe he is once again hiding something in plain sight.

I never said he was either or that he broke his hand. I was pointing out that some people do have the awareness not to injure their dominate hand when punching something out of anger. Sheesh.

Sure, but aren't we talking about this game's characters and story?

Why do you keep talking about baseball? I don't see any basaball players or baseball references in Pale Carnation.

Game set and match, Otto! :p

That said, I very much doubt the MC injured his hand in some sort of brawl. Maybe Sophia's visit was to perform some sort of invasive test and she bandaged it up for him afterwards?

Hmm it's been long time so i can't remember, but does that bit about Grace come up during the birthday party as fixed content, or maybe just in some optional branch? So Edwin wouldn't necessarily know that Mina knows her?

This weeks preview sure has generated a lot of thread activity.
I don't think "Have you met Ian's mom?" is a legitimate quest for information. I read it as a facetious, rhetorical question meant to rebut the other speaker's viewpoint or suggestion about Grace with incredulity. A slightly more specific example: Edwin says there is a problem with Grace that demands attention, to which Mina suggests ignoring it, with Edwin replying "Have you met Ian's mom?"

Also, since we're all weighing in with our bandage theories, I have one:
Instead of the diner, Edwin takes the Carnations to an afternoon Orioles-Red Sox game for their pre-exhibition team building activity. The ghost of James Earl Jones shows up to give them a rousing pep-talk, but an inebriated Felicia, mistaking his speech as encouragement to streak, takes the field, becoming the first arrested. Shortly after, Vero gets in a dustup with Ben Affleck and some other obnoxious Sox fans, so she's outta there. Rosie apologizes to Ben while Ed calls Kathleen to figure out how to get the Carnations out of the clink. Suddenly, the kiss cam focuses on Ben and Rose. Thinking quickly before Rose gets swept down the path to being the third Missus Affleck, Edwin invokes the Full Deal to make Rose give him a kiss so lewd that mothers throughout the stadium shield their children's eyes from the debauchery on the jumbotron. Sheepishly, Ben ponders why getting humiliated like this is turning him on so much. Kat has the Police Chief get Big Red and Feli released in time for the exhibition. When Ed goes to pick them up, at the doorway to the police station, he inadvertently shoulder checks a cop getting off duty who's on his way to coach his girlfriend's son's little league practice. The cop, having had a disappointing decade since separating from the Corps, is wistfully yearning for his bygone fobbit days at Delaram, when he and his M4 went unchallenged by women and children alike. Snapped back into the present by the unexpected collision, he takes exception to Edwin's smug face and lack of deference, and bashes his hand with an aluminum baseball bat, promising to do worse if he ever again is witness to Edwin not groveling before the Thin Blue Line.

That's just what sprung to mind when I saw Eddie's bandaged hand. I don't know if it's because today's MLB Opening Day, but I just feel like there needs to be more baseball sprinkled into Pale Carnations. Anyone else?

That's a very sensible explanation, though with one caveat: referring to her as "Ian's mom" in a follow-up in discussion which is already about her feels somewhat off. "Have you met Grace?" or even "Have you met her?" would be a more natural way to refer to someone when both of you already know who's the person in question.

But maybe that's just tweak for the sake of the preview. Or it's originally about Ian and it only just moved onto topic of his mom.
