Dev Diary 85

Here is TD, hello all. Let's get into totals:

3,237 images, 74 animations, and 59,093 words.

That is 310 statics, 8 animations, and 4,492 words since the last dev diary on November 3rd.

We're past the major branching portion and I can count the number of scenes left to finish the update on one hand. They're a bit more meaty than any single label of the quagmire of 20 or so before it, but the mostly linear nature of the remaining scenes is a welcome change of pace. I find that when I'm writing (this) wide, it's easy to feel lost in the weeds. Questions of is this paced well, what does it contribute to the bigger picture, and does any given path feel justified in its existence can be hard to answer. Testing the scenes alleviate these doubts, but when you stare so much at something, you can lose perspective.

So, yeah. Happy to feel like I'm back on solid ground and to have the remaining scenes unfold like a movie in my head as opposed to some quantum cat's cradle of moments.

I can't say for certain if we'll hit our goal of a December release. We'll know definitively by next dev diary. Certainly if we did, it'd be a late one, fingers crossed for Christmas... but January would be a comfortable estimation. Either way, I'll be getting a jump on some tasks that I normally reserve for our testing period, so that when we are image/animation complete I can get it straight into our proofing team's hands.

Sounds like pretty good news all told. TD's numbers translate to a rate of approximately 103 static images, 2.7 animations, and 1497 words per week since his last dev diary, and 97 images, 2.2 animations, 1798 words per week since work on Chapter 4 Update 5 began. Here are the charts for Week 33:

This has turned out to be a pretty massive update, so it's good to hear the end is finally in sight. Ideally we'll get it before the end of the year, but given how busy things tend to get in December my guess is early/mid January is the more likely release date. Either way, I'm really looking forward to it: I think it's going to be a blast of good, old fashioned fun before we get the explosive madness that will be the third Exhibition.

Oh oh I think so, there is also Hana's motorcycle, if so this would be a huge spoiler.
Well, Edwin is in his business uniform and there's very little reason he'd be dressed like that anywhere else, but let me just huff copium until December/January.

It's NOT the club garage. First, we never saw any club garage. Secondly, you saw Hana parking her bike on the street outside the club.

It's NOT his uniform. He and Ian wear a black waistcoat and red trousers.

Well, it probably is, since we can see not only Mina´s Smart, but also Hana´s Harley and Felicia´s Porsche. In addition, Edwin is wearing his uniform, I doubt he wears it outside of Club business. But what is also interesting the vehicles we do not see. Unless there is an US specific variant I do not know, Rosi´s car is absent, so it Ian´s Mercedes.

Everyone worried about Mina going to club needs to ask: Have we ever seen Mina and Kathleen in the same room? :illuminati:

Realistically though it makes no sense to bring her on especially when the only carnation who is really involved with her (Felicia) already has not one but two "things" lined up for this weeks show, it makes no sense to bring her in as a competitor because the shows are halfway over and the people gambling on it (presumably there is an overall winner + weekly stuff like whatever Vincinzo won), it would (likely) fuck with Edwin's Head and even has potential to fuck with Ian's head (assuming he's more reflective) which Chuck has explicitly told Kathleen not to do :HideThePain: please tell me how Kathleen who is already "risking everything" with the Sophia/Van doren stuff stands to gain anything by involving Mina (you can't say you the player want to see her get fucked on stage :BootyTime:)

I am having a minor issue when I reload the game after changing the .rpy file a little (I edit the code to see all branches without having to save/load ~ so I can see everything in one playthrough :geek:)

This is the only game that crashes every time I save my changes and reload the game, the game closes and this error pops up

It's not really a big deal, I just have to open the game again then close it and re-open it for the changes to take effect. More annoying than anything else. I have been trying to work out why it is happening but can't quite figure it out, nothing I have done fixes it so far. I only really know enough to fix the usual bugs I come across and make mods for most games but this one has me stumped. Any help would be appreciated

Did you delete the old .rpyc file? Renpy compiles those .rpy files into .rpyc files when you first start the game. If you modify the .rpy you should delete the old .rpyc file. See if that does not help the next time you do this. :>)
