Yes, it's cool that a developer shares his game for free. But when is he going to share it? In 2-3 months? Nothing prevents from posting free releases 2-3 weeks after the update is released, the developer does not lose anything from this.

This is not stealing. If a person likes the game and has a conscience, they will definitely thank the developer.
Those who do not want to pay will not pay.

I mean even if I wanted to support the developer I can't. Patreon literally won't take my money and even if it did I can't get constant internet access where I live. So even if patreon worked I have no reason to support the game because I would still have to wait for it to be free.

I keep getting a fatal error every time I try to load. No error code, no explanation, just click to load, black screen for about 20-30 seconds, then fatal error. I updated my computer to windows 11, I updated my nvidia drivers, and still the same thing. Any thoughts?

It's more so an update that's streamlining the first few sectors alongside adding a divergent quest chain "The Evolution Path". You can get the Evolution Path either by dropping your mental health to 0% (repeated knockouts from spores), or by losing to the Lotus. Just keep in mind that this path seems to work on different mechanics than that of the normal path.

I was trying to highlight the absurdity and entitlement of being impatient for something that the dev is in no way obligated to provide. As others have pointed out, there are relatively few devs that offer free public versions with all the features intact. Some of them do so quickly, which is just a bonus on top of what is already a gift, but to expect that to be the norm feels like just another example of the choosing beggar.

To be clear, this isn't a knock on piracy in general, nor on leakers like you since the site wouldn't exist without them. I just think it takes some interesting mental gymnastics to contend that people who probably aren't going to give the dev a single cent at any point ought to have access to something immediately that they'd get for free eventually anyways.

Yes, you're right. The developer is not obligated to give his game away for free. Yes, it's generous of the developer to share the game. But it's not absurd at all when you give people who have been waiting for an update for 7 months the opportunity not to wait another month or two before the next update is released.

How long of a time frame do we set then? If a game is being developed by a single person, who is also going to school or holding down a job, do we say 2 months, and then it's not stealing? 5 weeks? Where is the line? You look at Devs like Amino (Beasts in the Sun) who makes quality content, but is infamous for milking his subscribers for near or over a year for tiny content drops. Only seems to trickle out some content when he starts losing enough income. Then I would say this point of view holds water. When he releases actual content, I think he should be paid for it, but his Subscribers are closer to Enablers than they are to Supporters at this point. However, when we consider Dev's that offer a full free version, regular updates (except when Credit Card companies interrupt their source of income) and active communication (ie: MorrakGames, Waifu Dreams Studio, Talothral, etc.). Are you saying because the update isn't within 2-3 months, that that time frame should justify pirating it? Have you Developed a game yourself?

I'd like to think so, and I do see a small percentage do just that. It's a good thing too, because there wouldn't be anything to steal without them.

It is heartbreaking to see and frankly absolutely disgusting.

I feel reminded on what happened to Grimhelm and some other developers.
They made some of the best games out there but still were harassed enormously.
This probably contributed to them not continuing making great games.

You are punishing the people who create these lovely games, you are actually making the world a worse place.

Sure, I am also a bottomfeeder, but I do not feel smug about it, or pretend that me playing the game is some great service or whatever. If I have not paid for the game I just keep my mouth shut and be thankful for some scrapes.

And when I have some money I support the dev.

Man the virtue signaling on this site has been insane lately. if people want to / can afford too or they feel like the dev is releasing content valuable of their money they will support them simple as that. No need to guilt trip others especially on this site of all places... a pirate forum. I always support devs by buying their games if theyre good on store platforms but the whole code debacle is exactly why i dont crowdfund games as well as you never know if the dev is going to abandon ship for no reason out of the blue some day.

I completely agree, that's why they're called donations, because it's voluntary. I'm an old pirate, but if I could leave a review or report an error, I would do it for free. It's not a big deal for me to help.

As of now it's just a cutscene on the Evolution Path.

Any normal game on steam costs 10-20$, I understand what I'm paying for, unfortunately I'm not rich enough to give 15$ per month, if I could donate 20$ and get a permanent subscription there would be no questions. This is my side as a poor consumer, except that my country is under sanctions to do something for dollars.
I hope the game will be released and I will be able to purchase this product at an appropriate price.
The game is promising, the setting is pleasant, and everything is more or less intuitive, even without instructions


P.S. I am against copying or "passing off as your own" work by the developer and similar actions.
P.S.S. I understand why the developer has this policy, so I will be able to support him if he reconsidered the payment for the poor community.
