Why not make a vanilla sex game but then have a mod/dlc people can download elsewhere that will introduce the banned stuff? (i.e.:incest, beastiality)

Every additional hurdle between you and your objective greatly increases the chances of failure. That's why the devs who have both a Patreon and a Subscribestar almost always have much higher earnings on their Patreon despite offering two donation options.
That makes sense, but it's also kind of a tainted sample. Like, if you're offering both of course people will pick the option they maybe already have an account with or perceive as more trustworthy. I'm just not convinced that if you only offered the non-Patreon option everybody would just go "WELL FUCK IT THEN!" I mean I'm sure there would be some drop-off, but I'm just not as convinced as some that it would be that big.

I started gathering more info for you before realizing that I've stopped working on my game to make time to convince someone of something that has no impact on me.

Here's what I had so far, you can look into it further.

Patreon:
1599867700124.png

Subscribestar:
1599867716197.png

Subscribestar seems to have much less traffic/users than Patreon and the implications of this has already been addressed.

organizes and ranks the top adult game creators. Subscribestar doesn't have something like this but you can try to compare some of these numbers to those on Subscribestar by exploring adult creators on subescribestar.adult

More importantly, no dev is going to risk destroying their livelihood by deleting their Patreon that took months or years to build up just to test and see if people will start heading over to Subscribestar. Especially since all evidence up to now points to the answer being no. Much more supporters will be lost from Patreon than gained with Subscribestar.

It seems that the people truly outraged by Patreon are the overwhelming minority here. If this wasn't true, then we'd see a lot of people pushing for Subscribestar. Another piece of this puzzle is F95 itself. Removing Patreon doesn't leave signing up for Subscribestar as the only option for the userbase. They can also just wait a few days and download the games for free on F95 anyways.

If Patreon is truly as unbearable as some people like to think it is, then F95 is a great place to mobilize for an alternative.
1599868317629.png

There is plenty enough traffic on F95 that could be nudged towards using Subscribestar over Patreon. This effort would need to be spearheaded by the community. I'm just 99% certain that this won't happen as the overwhelming majority of users really don't care too much one way or another.

Only solution is for both devs to offer SubscribeStar as an alternative, and users to actually switch to it, now, and not in the future. Until that happens, Patreon will stay the top-dog (unless they decide to ban all adult content), and devs will have to work around the restrictions, or just write a vanilla game that Patreon approves of.

That's why my initial point was about new devs without an established Patreon. I get that it doesn't make much sense to gamble with your livelihood if you don't even have much of a problem with Patreon personally. But that depends on the dev/game obviously.

It seems that the people truly outraged by Patreon are the overwhelming minority here. If this wasn't true, then we'd see a lot of people pushing for Subscribestar. I mean we do have "Patreon sucks" threads fairly regularly, but obviously it's a minority. 98% of people on this site don't pay anyway, so why would they care if they don't pay on Patreon or don't pay on SubscribeStar? Also, the piracy argument is kind of moot, since the same "you can just wait and get it for free" thing already applies right now to Patreon.

Yeah, that's why I think it would need to be spearheaded by actual devs choosing a different platform. Again, if you're a new dev just building your platform I don't believe it would hurt you that much to start somewhere else. It's obviously a risk/benefit thing. If you're making a completely vanilla game you'll probably be peachy on Patreon and make slightly more money, but if you tend to rub up against their TOS maybe an alternative is worth a look.

Didn't mean to keep you from your game :HideThePain:

as of this moment patreon has a monopoly on the market but that is likely to change they just lost a major lawsuit that has opened the floodgates for them to be sued from every direction for their continued censorship if enough people decide to sue patreon faces potential bankruptcy

FFS Sake that’s NOT how censorship works, Patreon is a company that can terminate anyone over a violation of their terms of service, the worst thing that happened in the lawsuit was that they have to have each of the 72 dumbasses cases arbitrated individually, hell considering t/hat there’s been NO news in over a month, I’m pretty sure Patreon is winning since the idiots had sn extremely flimsy case to begin with when they sued Patreon.

yes owen benjamin is an idiot with a small following but it isn't him that will cause the most damage it's people like lauren southern and carl benjamin who have already decided to sue patreon and if people like them or not does not matter the reasons for why they were kicked was bullshit they didn't break any of the sites terms of service it was pure ideology that had them removed

None of that is true and it has nothing to do with censorship. They haven't lost a major lawsuit, the courts simply refused their attempt for an injunction. Patreon is a private company, not the government. They have the legal right to remove users for violating their TOS, just like any other company. Whether you agree with them doing so is an entirely different discussion. There is absolutely zero reason to believe they will face bankruptcy or even any meaningful financial loss over this.

That's why my initial point was about new devs without an established Patreon. I get that it doesn't make much sense to gamble with your livelihood if you don't even have much of a problem with Patreon personally. But that depends on the dev/game obviously.
The new dev would then be missing out on financial support that they would have otherwise received if they had a Patreon account. The scenario you describe means that a new dev would be primarily targeting users who have never pledged support to anyone in the past, otherwise they would already have a Patreon account. These are the unnecessary hurdles I mentioned earlier which this new dev could avoid entirely by spending 30 minutes to make a Patreon page. It would be unreasonable to expect someone to earn a small fraction of their potential earnings just to avoid using Patreon.

I hope you took a look at subscribestar.adult. There are some devs who are featured on the front page of that site and have a mere 50 subscribers. That's how huge of a difference in user base there is between Patreon and Subscribestar.

The only way NSFW devs are leaving Patreon is:

A) Patreon kicks them out

B) A viable alternative pops up.

Maybe if there's a concentrated effort on F95 where people use Subscribestar over Patreon whenever the choice is offered, then maybe there is a chance Patreon can be abandoned all together.

Didn't mean to keep you from your game :HideThePain:
No worries. It's very possible that I'm subconsciously hoping to get distracted :) It's hot as fuck and I don't have AC. Wild fires have turned the air hazardous so I can't even open a window. Rendering brings the temp in my office up to 85-90 degrees. Please send help!

except for the fact that they realized they messed up and instead of owning up to it they made sneaky changes to the TOS and got caught doing it the simple truth is with the cost of arbitration if thousands of law suits were filed it would ruin them here is a link to a lawyer explaining why

According to your own video, these lawsuits didn't do shit. Patreon ended up paying a decent chunk of cash that in the grand scheme of things is insignificant for them.

1599881142015.png

The second point made in the video, they've already dealt with this sort of arbitration and it went their way.

No where in that video was even the thought of bankruptcy mentioned and we have zero reason to believe it. At best, you can hope for thousands of idiots to each throw away $250 in hopes of bankrupting Patreon in arbitration costs, but that will never happen. Hell, they've even changed their TOS so that going forward they can avoid this impossible scenario.

People hear what they want to hear rather than what's actually being said.

this case which has gone through was 100 people not thousands and as stated in the video the 100 people would cost over $200000 without even adding lawyer fee's Patreon is currently being sued by Carl Benjamin known as Sargon of Akkad a guy with a million followers and Lauren Southern who has over 676K while Owen Benjamin doesn't even have a fraction of their following and managed to get 100 people with them combined they could easily get about 5000 people that would cost them what 1 billion in legal fee's not accounting for the lawyers maybe with the new TOS as long as it's actually legal this time around they could avoid the shit show that is coming for them but i sure hope not because fuck Patreon

Im sure each of those hundreds of thousands of subscribers is going to individually submit a lawsuit and pay their own fees, hell Im sure the courts NOTORIUS for siding with corporations are going to rule in the subscribers favor as well, and while we’re at it the porn fairy will bless you with an infinite amount of porn.

Also real classy hoping that every creator on Patreon loses their source of income, really sticking up for the little guy there.

What problem? There are many Patreons who would not use SS, because they do not trust SS with their card details. Patreon uses tried and tested PayPal, I have been using PayPal for the last 20 years without any problems.
Probably the problem of not going “reeeeee” and crying “but censorship is bad” every time Patreon bans some idiot who thinks they’re being clever.

why should i give a fuck about anyone that allows a company like Patreon to walk all over other people as long as they themselves are ok Sargon of Akkad broke no TOS rules he was removed from the site for something he did on twitter a site not owned or affiliated with Patreon which lead some of the sites top earners to leave Sam Harris and Jordan B Peterson being primary examples the site has become complete trash which will continue to censor in their ever narrowing idea of what is Taboo and what isn't until nothing is left while the very same creators who are being effected are spineless enough to do nothing about it as a creator my self who has put time and money into creating a game i just recently purchased my RTX 2070 super to render faster will not under any circumstance put on my game on patreon i don't care if i make no money at all it's a matter of principle

So you don’t give a shit about the porn games and are only whining about Sargon of Akkad and other “political commentators” getting banned? Because in that case why the hell are you on F95? This is a porn site for fucks sake. Barely any of us give a crap about anything other then porn games, which by the way, rarely get effected by Patreons rules, hell I can think of 7 games Or developers off the top of my head that clearly violate Patreon’s TOS and haven’t even had their pages blocked once. LOQO, SOC, Ravager, Everything Kaliyo has ever made, COC, COC II, and everything by Dystopian Project. Frankly if you want to bitch about Sargon getting banned? The F*** off to your Echo chamber on 4chan, snowflake, the rest of us don’t want to heat it here.
