MrDots with "Dating My Daughter". When Patreon ban started, his answer was to put the link to the game on his personal website, and never on Patreon. It worked until they discovered it. He shared with his patrons the mail they sent, and it ended here from a trustworthy source ; it's now buried in one of the endless thread that was created at this time, but honestly I don't remember which one and where in the thread.
To summarize, Patreon position is that you can't use their service to fund a game having banned content, dot. Whatever if you never talk about the game on your Patreon page, whatever if you don't link the game on Patreon, as long as they think that you are using this money to fund the game, it goes against their rules.
MrDots was offered an alternative (a pretty fucked one): He submit the script for a new game to their approval, and he can continue to work on Dating My Daughter on the side, as long as he don't talk about it on Patreon. But at this time he was one of the top successful adult game creator on Patreon, so I'm not sure if that alternative (having an official game funded by Patreon and a "secret one" on the side) would works for someone else.

In your personal case, I assume that they would see that as funding the game, because you make nothing with the girls you'll show on Patreon. Someone like Oni (Rogue Like author) can probably use that as excuse because he's a well known cartoonist works more on his drawing than on his game, but as I understood it, your initial intent is more to throw some renders that will be in the game.

Then read carefully SubscribeStar terms of services and think about them.
The limit they impose before you can withdraw your money is so high (US$ 150 if I remember correctly) that half of the adult game creators on Patreon wouldn't be able to get their money more often than every three months, while for the less successful a full year wouldn't be enough.

Perhaps that it's something that don't bother you, but what about your potential patrons. Would you give few bucks to someone, knowing that he'll not be able to get them before many months ? I know that personally I wouldn't.

Thanks for the explanation and advice, I really appreciate it!

I'm going to think about releasing it on Patreon,Pixiv,Subscribstar much later.
Just going to release it on here for free.
I suppose I'll have the images censored on Pixiv. I'm not so worried about being demonitized on Patreon though.
The reason is even if I do get banned or demonitized I had no real intention on earning much profit from my first game.
This was a learning experience really, and it was a fun thing to make.

About the amount of money sent to Subscribestar content creators or how long it would take to receive or never at all.
I think noob developers need to set their expectations very low and think of their projects as hobbies with such a saturated base. I'm not in it for the profit, I just wanted to see if I had what it takes to make a decent VN game. If I don't earn a penny at least my time was spent doing something fun.

I'm not making my game exclusive or hiding it behind a paywall. I'm merely using the Patreon,Pixiv,Subscribestar as a way to donate money for alcohol and some snacks. I'll deal with the consequence as they come but I want no restrictions on what I want to make, I have no intentions on obeying those silly TOS rules for such silly fetish of which isn't real.

People gripe about Patreon a lot, but it's mostly the credit card processors. It's not even PayPal.

It'd be nice to have more freedom, but what can you do.

For starters, moving away from Patreon. For another, review bombing Visa and Mastercard for trying to be the "Moral police".

How do you review bomb the only debit card providers in America?
Even if you could do it, complaining publicly that it's wrong for them be against incest, rape, beastiality, etc. by default doesn't sound like the most successful strategy.

At some point they may become more open to "vanilla" porn in general, but that's as good as it's going to get.

No Lawsuit, No Change.

Things need to get much worse before it can get better.

It's not even a matter of mind opening.

Each time there's a fraudulent use of a credit/debit card, it's them who refund the victim. And, not strangely at all, the more there's countries where the bought content is illegal, or the more the content is borderline, the more there's frauds. They don't try to impose their moral, they just cover their asses.

But, the reality is that they don't refund with their money when it come to sex related product. Every seller of such products, or here service offering the possibility to sell such products, have to provide a guaranty fund. It's it, with the help of the generated interests, that will be used to refund the victims. Therefore, it's also in the interest of Patreon to limit the possibilities of frauds ; the less there's frauds, the less they'll have to put back money on the guaranty fund.
If I remember correctly, it's US$ 12 millions that Patreon had to give away as guaranty fund. Clearly not something they want to do again in the future.

Should game developers be looking for other revenue alternatives because it looks like being on patreon could no longer be worth it?

Let's be clear, there's absolutely nothing new here. The video you showed talk about this made by Redamz. A post in which we can read, among other things :
"They've requested me to make changes to the game (stupid things like making ara and faranne not adoptive sisters if they are to share a scene), which if you all know me, you will know I'll never do."

Therefore:
  1. A game author was voluntarily not following rules that Patreon put in place years ago ;
  2. Some guy on youtube saw this and made a video saying that Patreon is becoming worth ;
  3. You found the video and shared it because you think that Patreon is now becoming evil.

So, yes, there's absolutely nothing new. Patreon haven't changed its politic since the introduction of their ban, in late 2017. Three and half years that incest, none consensual sex, bestiality and p*d*shit are banned and, while they never gone back, they also never gone further.
But there's still, and will still be, idiots that complain, time to time, because they have been caught, and will blame Patreon for their own stupidity.

How's that mega-massive, potentially bankrupting arbitration thing going? It's been a while

Yeah. Nothing new. He broke the TOS with incest and was asked to censor/change the content. He breaks the rules, so, therefore, he loses access to the platform.
The only surprising thing he's rejecting his ~50-60k/month income for some irrelevant fetish to his core game.
Madman.
Hope he won't regret this.

More like he is looking for an exit strategy so that he can run with all that money he has collected and "retire".
Can't be sued if you are banned.
Update Never.

I imagine it:
late 2017, Redamz is looking at the changes in Patreon Terms of Service: "Oh, they now ban incest content. I know, I'll keep it. This way I'll be able to quit whenever I want. I just have to report my game to Patreon for having banned content, and use them as excuse."
27 April 2021, Redamz, 27 days after he came back from a 3 months break: "Now that I'm back in business, it's the good moment to retire, I'll trigger my evil plan."

It's plain stupid, as stupid than thinking you can be sued because you stopped your Patreon project.

Well whatever makes it better imo. Patreon and other platforms banning pixel content is stupid. 3d cg porn is no more dangerous than 3d cg violence.

Subscribestar lets you use prepaid cards as well so I say on with the show!

You say that but if all that sweet sweet Patreon money was still rolling would you stop?
Would you close the Patreon and go on radio silence?
With this kind of projects you can't really "retire", until you can once you are banned.

Not everyone is as obsessed by money than you seem to be.
, before taxes, more than US$ 500.000 during the two first years, and more than one million since. If he isn't a fool and know how to manage his money, he now have around US$ 10.000/month without the need to works, nor the need from his Patreon account. Even in the US it's enough to have a decent life, at least if you live for yourself and not in order to impress the others. But the fact is that, according to him, he "live in a small 3rd world country in the middle of nowhere", therefore with those US$ 10.000/month he already have a great life in his country.

But the most important part isn't that, but this :
redamz.jpg
When he decided to stop, he also decided to froze the pledges. Don't really know how it works for Patreon, so it's perhaps effectively only frozen until the next month, or it can be frozen until further notice. But since he did this, I assume that he give himself the time to decide what he'll do in the future, and continue to froze the pledges until he know if he finally comply to Patreon's demand or simply delete his page, whatever if it's because he switched to another platform or totally quit.
Anyway, he did it at least for this month, what is already enough to invalidate your stupid theory.

As for the answer to your question, I already have an income that permit me to have a decent life. I wouldn't say no to more money, but I don't really need it ; I would use it to help even more my children, not for me. What mean that, put face to this kind of situation, I also would froze the pledges or delete my Patreon page.

Yes but you haven't exactly earned a million from Patreon and nobody is going to hunt you down for quitting.
As for Redamz I am pretty sure the Assassination Missions have already been posted, you don't mess with the furries .
