I keep seeing this game appear and it looks like it's perfectly up my alley, but I've tried it several times and I just cannot find out how to advance. It just seems to take an eternity of grind to get anywhere... if other people have a different impression, can you please share with me some tips for getting anywhere in a timely fashion?
PQ isn't designed to give lewds/sex right away. Treat it as a regular rpg that happens to have LOTS of sex once you hit milestones.

PQ quest progression is pretty linear at the beginning, it's the oldest part of the game and Tinkerer was learning how to build it. It gets more flexible as you advance. Many girls' questlines can be ignored if you don't care for their stories, though virtually all of them provide in-game benefits in addition to sex if you pursue them.

You do need a chunk of money to gear up so some early grinding is probably a necessary evil if you don't use the Cheatmode mentioned by DomWolf. The need for cash grinds doesn't totally go away for a while, but does drop significantly once you hit (IMO) level 7-8. And there are quests which give passive income on completion (the cash automatically accrues periodically).

Save regularly, especially before fighting tough opponents. Turn on Autosave immediately at game start...at worst you can start over at the beginning of that day if you die/fuck something up. A useful technique is scumsaving (Save right before something and reload if you die or don't like the outcome), especially for grinds. You don't have to Save before EVERY fight/event, but too many people don't seem to Save at all.

use the walkthrough step by step because it is impossible to advance in this game without it
I wouldnt say impossible. When I played I was able to bumble, navigate & think my way through the story. Sure I got lost a few times but then I'd find something that changed. Not impossible, just tedious lol

It's definitely not impossible, I have NEVER used the walkthrough.

How to install cheats
Don't install any cheats. if you need cheats use the ingame version, find the corpse is the bottom left of the first screen, and use the key it holds to unlock the building in the bottom left of the village

where the heck do i find gabriel
In the beginning he is in the Tavern...

If you play PQ as a true RPG, you wouldn't need the WT. In RPG, you are supposed to be "nosy". Talk to everyone often, read the dialogs, click on things, run a round doing things, ...

If you play PQ as a porn game, you can use the WT to get to the content in the fastest way.

For me, I use the WT once in a while to remind me of what to do next. PQ is rather straight forward. There is very little missable contents.

How to install cheats
There are three built-in cheats.
1) Cheatmode: Stil996 mentioned this one. Don't use save editors unless you REALLY want to, they can bork unrelated parts of the game.

2) Affection Cheat: After you progress a girl's story far enough they grow more attached to you. If you don't sleep a night at their place periodically (or some other story-appropriate thing) their Affection score starts going down. Gifts & other helping them builds it back up (or use Awe on them), but the only way to end the daily loss is to sleep at their place, which resets the timer before it starts going down again. This cheat turns off the Affection loss for not sleeping with them (exception: not for Obeah, she has quests which depend on her Affection hitting rock bottom). West of the guard tower is some brown manure under a tree. Clicking on that activates/deactivates this cheat.

3) Bat Breeder Affection: If you capture & keep a BB, clicking on the top left wall corner in Bolon's room increases the BB's Affection...normally you have to give her an orgasm for that, which is fun but getting it high enough for the next part takes a while (remember to enable better rations & buy better cell furnishings before raising her Affection). Repeated clicks raises it further. Once her Affection is high enough the quest "Man Cave" triggers after you give her an orgasm.

And there are still some things which aren't spelled out in the WT. Like there's a reset for Vixenatrix if you successfully steal the gem, letting you visit her and making her quite friendly despite what you did.

Does anyone know what triggers a fight to be a blue or red hue. Most of the tme fights are norm this sometimes happens. Just curious if anyone knows?

That is spelled out in the WT though.

I don't find the dragon reset mentioned anywhere in the walkthrough writeups, though I may be missing it...could you direct me if it is there somewhere?

It is mentioned in Tinkerer's release notes on patreon for v2.11, but combing through the release notes for small mentions is...tedious.

Think you're referring to fights at dawn/dusk (red hue) or night (blue). Visual reminders of what time of day it is.

I think a couple fights just...don't display the color shift. Nor if you're indoors/underground.

I had the blue in caves & when fighting the Thugs under the Moist Maiden in Greyport.

Had the red on the Werewolf once as well. Which is why I got confused.

Is it me or does the MC seem to miss more in fights?

Had a fight and missed my opponent 5 times in a row, never remembered having that happen before.
