It's actually pretty easy, you go to the itch.io site and if there's any news it's there. There's supposedly a fan made discord mentioned in a comment by a random user there but probably not much on it I'd guess but any and all news the dev posts on the io site.

seeing this game updating is like shrek getting a new movie after years, nice to see this one back
it is good to see this one back, however with such a large update, think it would be best to wait a few days before getting it. Goodness the older version v0.7 was about 1.77G and V0.8 jumps to a 10 G that is like 8.3 G of new material. The change log must be massive. This is one major update be interesting to see what others say about it. But am looking forward to the new update. Thanks

Wow, developer is a BEAST, making such a huge update (and in relatively short time, for that amount), but man, it would be so much better if he did short updates every month. I mean, the more chances he get to appear on the latest updates - the more people notice his work in the first place, and it saddens me that it may miss some audience because of something like that.
