Sorry to quota an old post. Does not telling the ntr guy to buzz off on day 7 put you into an NTR path that inevitably leads to permanent loss of some or all of the girls? Or is it more of an episodic thing where you get a few NTR scenes but, ultimately, you can still work your way to get your harem back? Or maybe more close to netorase/sharing? Spoilers welcome, including endings, thanks!
At evening you have a choice to let any 1 of the girls go on a date with him. There's no scenes unless you tell them to go on a date. You can only get cucked by choice.

He gives you money for each date, I think like $50 a date or so...
idk I just used the cheat code for money so that was never a concern for me.

every single game marked "other" with a .exe file always flags windows malware. Just scan it with your AV before you run it and then when it inevitably gets flagged by windows you can ignore it.

You never lose the girls really, Harai (and other dudes) just fuck them too and sometimes you fuck them together
Just a caveat thought it's not really a happy go lucky swinging, bros fucking chick together type of deal either.
It's not a cut and dry cuck/bull type thing but there is some humiliation to it.
You use to even be able to let him go on a few dates with them before anything serious happened but as a way to speed up subsequent playthroughs after the first playthrough if he goes on a date he fucks them.
I use to let him stick around as a way to make a bit of cash but now you can borrow money from the girls if you need it at the cost of trust.
Bottom line if you are really averse to NTR just tell him to fuck off.
If you don't have a huge problem with it, let him stick around a couple times and check it out, the NTR is really well done.

Question on the group sex.. Is it mostly with other dudes also fucking the women and the MC being included (assume it starts with MC as a cuck like most of these games), or is there a fair bit of MFF+ going on?
It's been a few years since I played last and the change log seems to have a lot of MMF stuff, just looking at the names and "Hirari must have fucked her" type comments. This game seems to lean a lot into the NTR/willing cuck scenes, when originally it seemed more harem focused.

I've never experienced him going on normal, non-sexual, dates with them. It always ends up with something sexual on the first date. I haven't played the game before either. Is there a way to reset the status somehow, so that there is a slow ramp up to their dates again?

Iirc the texts from the first couple dates are innuendo, sneaking an upskirt pick, maybe a grope. Mika ramps up faster i think but they all end up fucking him by the 3rd date i think.
There is no way to reset it.
I asked him when he introduced it if he would add the ability to do so in a future update and he said maybe.
In older versions of the game letting them go on a couple dates was a strategy to get some cash and manage jealousy, even if you didn't want him to fuck them.
The state the game is in rn you don't really need that mechanic to manage money and jealousy, especially if you have completed the endings that are available

there's a lot of MFF stuff. You need to start fucking the girls in the present to get the threesome scenes and i think Mika, Emi, Shizu and Nabuko all have scenes with each other. Once you unlock an ending with a girl her stats go up much faster in subsequent playthroughs and it's very easy to get the threesomes.
The MMF stuff for the MC is exclusively with Harai. If you send them on enough dates, basically pimping them out, they'll start fucking him and eventually you catch him messing around with them at the apartment and you can choose to join in.
There is also some MMF stuff without the MC and some MFF stuff without him as well if you have allowed the NTR

Is there a general strategy in the game, to get the best outcomes without using cheats? When I played before the time seemed to go by really quick and it wasn't easy to always pick the right options. Is focusing on one woman per playthrough the best option?

You can focus up to two women at a time iirc, so you can see some of their combined events, but three or more and you run out of time. But after you've gotten the ending for one of them, that girl gets sped up progression on later playthroughs.
The only real strategy is to focus on your stats at the beginning, as usual, and then just manage your money and the locations you pick after that. And obviously the girls' stats have breakpoints that you need to hit to unlock events.

yeah i would just focus on one at a time.
One of the benefits of this is that you can also concurrently unlock the NTR scenes (if you are interested in that) for the girls you aren't focusing on.
Once you unlock and ending for a girl, by picking them on the last day, her stats go up much quicker in subsequent playthroughs. At that point you can easily focus on more than one girl at a time
As far as the MC's stats you don't really need to raise them much past 5 imo
