In the case of PE2, it's not going to be anything different than PE1 story-wise:
Julia still has to pretend she isn't married in front of Mrs. Johnson, and is clearly trying to set up Julia with Simon now instead. There was no need to advance the story 6 years ahead, and no need to introduce a kid (that will be irrelevant to the story), when this plot point could've easily happened 6 days after the events of PE1.
PE2 as is is just retreading old themes, adding nothing new to the mix; no new gameplay mechanics, no new experiences, and no new "obstacles" to overcome. That's why PE2 is a disappointment - the dev is just using that name and characters because it's their most popular project.
