There is still some hope that it may be a temporary hiatus rather than complete abandonment. The first sentence of the last update says that it is the last update 'for now'. It is possible that the dev changes their mind, though it does seem unlikely.

The author wanted to switch to SFW games as written in some devlog before, maybe considered that it'll be better to start from a blank page. Unfortunately I didn't save Tiwtter / new itch.io account that was mentioned.

from what i can tell, the main reason nintendo doesn't police pokemon as heavily as their other franchises is because they would need either the pokemon company's or gamefreak's approval to send a dmca for it, as they each only have one third ownership in the pokemon franchise, and, if I recall correctly, you need at least half to send a dmca.
