It's really a shame to see all the goodwill (and willing patience) this game had going for it over the years... entirely tossed away at the tail end of things... simply because the Dev doesn't give a fuck enough to communicate what's caused such a drastic delay for a previously announced release. It's just absurd. How could he be willing to allow for that so easily? Stupifying.

Completely unacceptable for a subscriber-based game to encounter this type of apathy from a creator. Keep your paying customers posted on the situation, in some sort of limited form at least, monthly. You're being PAID to do so. WTF?

-The dialogue or narrative done throughout this series is easily one of its greatest assets (among others). Entirely engaging and often times especially intelligent. I am truly saddened to know that all of that is now compromised by such willful ignorance. It can never be read with the same objective appreciation again... and that shit hurts. Ouch.

You're about a month late to the outrage train... We've been pondering over the new information and teaser trailer that's been released already.

Oh, and he doesn't owe us any explanation of what the problem was. Thinking otherwise is the worst kind of self-delusion.

Oh, was there a teaser trailer? I hadn't seen that. That's something at least. Fair enough.

However, the idea that a subscribed/paying customer is not owed an explanation for why content has not been shipped as announced... is preposterous. Inane. Absurd.

For the record, I'm not saying he needs to detail whatever sort of personal situation it might be. But he DOES need to effort updates on that ongoing delay, and maintain respect for the monthly fee they are paying for ACCESS to exactly that.

Or maybe I'm just an idiotic capitalist who has yet to recognize we're all just supposed to be throwing coins into a pond and hoping we get something out of it...??

This dev doesn't announce release dates until he's very close to finished, but he's still updating us roughly once a month. As a supporter on Patreon, I think that's good enough. I don't need (or deserve) weekly status reports.

There are no paying customers...
The only people owed anything at all are the paying patrons, and all they're due is dependant on the tier they're paying for each month, not an explanation or details of what was wrong.

There wasn't an "announcement of shipping", there was an esitmate. There haven't been "announcements of shipment" for a long, long time. Patrons are well of that.

A few quick things then I'm probably done with you bc it's pretty clear you're not here to listen/have an actual discussion:

1. Patreon is based on the idea that you're a 'Patron' i.e you are not paying someone for a product you are supporting the creation of it. It's not a 1-1 transaction. Which means no one should expect a finished product immediately/purely because they contributed-which shuts down your little capitalist quips in those pretty turquoise letters-not only that but he gave that money back immediately to those who asked for refunds.

2. He has been communicating monthly. Even through this. If you read like 1-2 pages back or checked Patreon you would know this. But you probably do and are just ignoring that to force a point. Part of the reason it caused such a shockwave is because he's been damn near perfect for the past few years and is generally very communicative and honest. Has he been as incredibly detailed recently as we'd like? No. But he has let everyone know what's going on-he even explained why he wasn't updating this month which you would again also know if you had read the update instead of going straight to the last page to comment on the state of things a month ago.

3. I am reasonably(99.9%) certain you either have never subbed to him or did once and think it entitles you to say what you're saying the way you're saying it. Either way your entitlement and narcissism is truly egregious. You're so busy getting off on what you're thinking/typing you didn't know 95% of what you said is either old information or just straight-up wrong/false. Like bro you really writing on a pirate site like it's a best-selling book review but you haven't read the book.

4. The only reason I didn't put down more about how what you said was wrong was because it's impossible to separate your actual points from the poorly done sarcasm and self-serving sophistry. You don't even know what you're mad about or if you even are you just know you wanted to say your little lines and decided to ignore reality to do it.

No one's ecstatic about the state of things w/ the game but it's made even worse by trolls trying to make themselves feel better/shit on WWG with largely and obviously fallacious beliefs. There are literally thousands of better ways to jerk off on this site alone than the one you picked by saying what you said.

In short I think

I'm personally in the camp that he'll never give an explanation cause there isn't one. He's already done with the update and is just extending his cash cow a little longer with the final main update. I think he is burnt out and had the realization that he probably doesn't want to make another game after PV so is pushing his work out.

BUT, we will all never know the reason so to each his own.

WWG made much more money when he had frequent shorter updates and what ifs. Once this update is released he'll be releasing epilogues every few weeks. The delay also caused a decrease in subs/money.

It makes no sense for him to sit on the update for months. Once the update drops it will likely have 1.5x the amount of content as last due to last chance. It'll be easy to check like every other update by seeing the amount of renders and animations in the new folders.

I think it's completely fine to criticize WWG for lack of communication and a last minute massive delay but saying he did it intentionally to profit makes no sense. He offered refunds for the month which a lot of people accepted.

Edit: You can look at a chart of his patreon earnings here. Post last chapter release in January 2024 it dropped to 2021 levels

WWG's already said he'll be making post-game bonus content, and he's mentioned for years now that he's got another game planned, so supporters have reasons to stick around after this update. Sitting on the update would do needless damage to his reputation.

Personally I think WWG is just trying to outdo himself with this update. For years now, each new chapter has been bigger and better than the previous one. And since this will be the final chapter, I think he feels pressure to create a good ending, lest it be a disappointment and (worst-case) retroactively taint the entire game.

Could WWG actually be burned out, and secretly planning to retire? Time will tell.
