Good ! :) I did not check the domain with the blog, I just saw it was a patreon-news.com and not a patreon.com - I saw it only yesterday late night (my timezone), so, I had not checked on Patreon.

Given the polemics about Patreon, still think was not the best taste April's fool joke, but I prefer to be the fool, than the inevitables consequences of such a purchase if it was real :-D
It's actually news.patreon.com and not news-patreon.com. A lot of people fell for this, so you're not alone. My first instinct was outrage, and I nearly fell for it. But it just seemed too crazy, so I logged into Patreon, couldn't find anything relating to it at all, checked Patreon's executive team and there's nobody called Marty Pratt, and they don't even have Chief Commercial Officer as a job title. That's when I noticed Commercial was mispelled as Coomercial, which made me even more suspicious, because I doubt an organisation like Patreon would make such an unprofessional error. And then I noticed that it was now April 1 and everything clicked.

I thought it was a very clever joke. It didn't just fool members of this site, but other games sites across the net were totally taken in, and posted similar doom-laden comments about the likely impact of Patreon's takeover.

Don't feel too bad about it, plenty people still getting taken in. There's even a thread in Off Topic about that started even more seriously!
I'm sure the people behind this were having a really good laugh, at some of the indignant comments that were being in the General Discussion thread. Even when it was pointed out several times that it was April 1, and this was probably an April Fool's prank, people still continued to insist that was the end of F95zone and Patreon had only acquired it, so they could get rid of it.

Even the people who weren't behind it had a good laugh... Are still having a good laugh too.

Well to be honest, my first instinct was to come here and make a comment about it on this thread, similar to ouch's. Because if it was true, it would likely have a big impact on this game. So it could just have easily have been me. But ouch beat me to it, and he'd posted the link to the supposed patreon announcement, and after reading that, it seemed a bit off to me, so that's when I checked Patreon. So I very nearly fell for it.

Another clue: the domain news-patreon.com was created on 28th march 2024. Just in time for this little prank ;)

You mean you did fall for it.

See?
Your first instinct should have told you to check the date/time, or even what others have already said including all the people reminding them of this regular yearly event.

So it could just have easily have been me.
It arguably still could be, since you're going on about something from many, many hours ago.
You started with my post from over 12 hours ago, which wasn't the first post about it being a well-done April Fool's joke, or the last on that page.

Well, honestly, if it has been the official news that .... war... (no politics on F95 :)) I would have double checked, when they told me two nights ago of a certain move, I checked the day after because it is not as neutral as some may think (and unfortunately, it was true), and with a check, indeed the domain being wrong (even more if checking the registration, but that was not even needed for me), logging on Patreon, or just reading again the advertisement and seeing the problems with it, even without the other checks, especially given I had considered the fact it was the 1st of April, would have been enough.

But despite considering the April's fool option, as you can see at the start of my original post, I have no problem in admitting I fell hook and sink for it :-D and did not check, as I was overdue to shut down the computer and go to bed.

More surprised that other sites also repeated it. Also, from some of the post, I understand in the other threads somebody may have been feisty about it ?
By the way, they put a new banner out ;-)

Actually my first post on the topic was 2.54 AM, whilst you didn't post anything until 8.30 AM.

April Fool's Day is just a bit of harmless fun, no need to take it so seriously.

Well, I imagine you can have the five seconds time of WTF, before going "Ah! Yeah, we're that day!". ^^

Public access coming up on the 7th, right now it's early access for higher tiers.

Well, cultural aspect counting as well, it is not only an USA thing, but it is not as strongly felt and diffused everywhere else, IMHO.

the thing is that, F95 uses a different time zone different than the US EST or PT, so its april 1st ten or so hours before the us, so it is obvious people will think otherwise and be caught by surprise, which i don't blame because it was so well done that everyone believed it.

so bravo for F95 Devs

It's pretty much international amongst most western civilised countires/nations, and some eastern ones too. Whilst I don't know the exact time the prank started here, I was aware of it at approximately 23:30 UK time on the 31st of March.

But hey, it's been over for almost a couple of days now, so let's not keep on about it...

Yep, now it is widely known, but it is still very different the length to which they go in anglo-saxon (mostly USA) countries to do it, and other countries, where most people make jokes about the 1st of April, but do not actually organise complex things just for that (and were newspapers or news agencies do not publish fake news for the 1st of April).

Effectively, some people try to link it to even to some festivity in ancient Rome (but in reality, that festivity was linked to a specific cult in a specific historical period, and it was not really like "April's fool", but rather about simply mocking people directly, more akin to irony, same as the celebration inverting master and slave, although this second one was not only specific to a cult, and is documented over a long period of Ancient Roman history), and they link it also to the change of calendar in France in the sixteenth century (as a single episode), but even those admit it is in reality in UK in the 18th century that the "April's fool" started being diffused and systematic, and from there to USA.

BTW, I know it is a bit off-topic from the game, but if you look, Myriam gave also rise to conversations about different legal systems and laws (though about subjects somehow linked to the game, like incest law, rape law, right of non-married legal couples, etc.), and I think those are nice, a way in which Myriam helps us all to expand ourselves (I mean mentally, not in other areas :p ;-)).

Maybe Zorlun can even include the idea of someone trying an "April's fool" on Myriam in the next update :p ;-)
