As far as other games, there are numerous recommendations in this thread, especially the newer posts.
Personally, there are two that come to mind at the moment - they have similarities YET huge differences:
- Abnormal, by Emerald Deceivers
- ACTIVE
- one of the devs I support on Patreon
- Starts slow, but once it gets going... hell yes.
- Devin's Life, by Taboo
- repeatedly abandoned, dev is still around but not active.
- half RPGMaker, half Ren'Py
- RPGMaker was first, Ren'Py was second
- Ren'Py includes a summary of RPGMaker story, so you can start there
- Personally, I loathe RPGMaker games, even though I love many of those same games in Ren'Py.
