Concerning the talk of the orc unit losing their ranged form I think things will play out like this.
- The javelin orc will be cut in order to make the leaping melee orc his own thing. The devs seem to talk of making each monster into their own individual unit likely with its own special behaviours, probably to prevent some units just becoming straight upgrades to the ones available before. But there'll always be that quality vs quantity argument to make I imagine.
- The two classes for each species of monster from here on will likely be one for the normal monster and then one for the monster girl variant. Whether they both do the exact same thing is anybody's guess.
- This could also indicate that the oni girl might have unique combat behaviour too.
Some of my other opinions regarding separate things.
- I believe we will eventually see more negative/positive traits in breeding and unique ones stuck to species, but I could see that being a lower priority thing for the devs when there's a lot of unit archetypes to fill.
- I also see talk about the current difficulty and breeding stat caps. I don't think the devs have any reason to stifle our ability to make megatroopers with the normal difficulty, especially since enemy waves can easily outpace our (current, for now) numbers, and they can probably bump up the enemy levels with the difficulty too. But currently with one difficulty setting I don't think they gain anything from making players min-max their armies.
- Lastly, since we've already seen one support unit for the enemy's side and no healing macguffins of any kind for our forces, I'm anticipating we get at least one support unit and support building in the near future. Personally I'm just hoping to have the towers be manned and upgraded.
