The issue becomes much easier as soon as people's lives stop depending on it. That's what UBI is for - so that artists would be able to live in reasonable comfort regardless of whether their art is appreciated or outlawed.

To be fair if I remember right, Black Market wasn't an arbitrary ban, the lolis in it were like... explicitly children. Not even a "we all know they're children but we say they're not" but actually "this is a kid".

UBI is a fairy tale though especially with the current political climate especially in the US. If you cant convince people that healthcare is a right or basic shit like due process or trans rights are there is no chance in hell you can convince people that UBI is a good idea. As soon as it is brought up there is always incoherent screeching about how brown people and gay people are gonna abuse it and teeth gnashing about who is going to pay for it. Meanwhile everyone cheers as billionaires get tax cuts and the average joe is left footing the bill.
