My head canon is that we'll be fine off of dividends because that's the only way a woman in her position would only have 8k to throw at the initial treatment. All of her money has to be tied up in investments.

This is why I can never really get into VNs where your ex shows up and is an option to get back together with (especially if you're kind of forced into it).
Either you left her, in which case you probably broke up for a good reason, and once your nostalgia/horniness wears off you're eventually going to start remembering what that reason was and be right back where you started with relationship problems/breaking up again. Or she left you, in which case if it was mostly over a stupid reason, a misunderstanding, or a miscommunication, then you basically can never really trust her or that the exact same thing won't happen again. It really only works if the reason you broke up was so utterly contrived and completely beyond either of your control, and it was a million-to-one scenario that you never need to worry about happening ever again. And if the breakup was almost completely amicable - once you establish that the breakup was acrimonious or bitter, now you've got even more reason to never get involved again.
About the only thing worse for me is when they start you off with a loyal girlfriend, where your only real options are to be a PoS and just cheat on her or break up with her for no good reason, or stay loyal and miss out on 90% of the game's content. It's one thing if she breaks up with you or even cheats on you to initiate the story (but then we're into the "never take back the ex" territory with that character from then on), but it kind of sucks if the game treats her like she's the perfect woman and still expects you to take her for granted and sleep with everything that moves.
The usual harem girlfriend trope of "I love you but I'm totally fine with you sleeping with other women, and I will even encourage it" might be incredibly unrealistic and kind of dumb, but at least it keeps the MC from being a complete asshole.
