The funny part is that current subscribers actually allows devs to keep delaying coz they still have a nice salary for doing nothing and they only gonna go back to work on it when they want/need more money
I have always been a supporter of money for goods/work. Prepaying has never been a good solution.

Paying per update, instead of monthly, would be a much more honest system.
But I'm not paying at all, so I can't complain.
If people only paid for each update, most devs would not be able to do this for a living. The current system has flaws, the biggest one is that people like SirD will just keep taking money without releasing anything. But at the end of the day it's people's responsability to cancel their subs.

Well, this does raise the question of whether or not you deserve to make a full living off of posing some naked DAZ models every few months.
I am pretty sure making a game like this is more complex than that lol. If you don't think that people don't really deserve to make a living for games like that is fine. But if they didn't make money with their games we would not have adult games to play. There aren't really many people willing to make this games for free.

Only the first release is at your own risk. You get money for them. You can safely do the next update. And the payoff again. The more often you update, the more you earn. It's a motivating system. And everyone is happy. Both dev and audience.

I'm one of the ones who pays for the full game when it's done (did it for Chasing Sunsets, Deliverance, Acting Lessons, Leap of Faith, Once in a Lifetime, Melody, and a handful of others), but you're right - most games would not survive to completion without loyal subscribers. I think that this is why some games that have long development cycles (like Being a DIK and Intertwined) have fan bases that grumble about the development time, but ultimately are happy to provide financial or morale support to the developers, since the devs make sure to keep the patrons regularly updated on progress.

This 'model' of support does not work for those who are trying to create AVNs for a living.

It would discourage much of what many want in an AVN - diversity of assets, music and ambient sounds, high quality animations, hardware upgrades (or at least the timing of them), etc.

In the end, I trust adults to spend their $ the way they see fit - whether it is buying $7 cups of coffee at Starbucks or supporting a creator at $5/month.

I don't agree with how Many people spend their $ but - that is the key - it's Their $.

There is nothing stopping people from supporting a dev for the month when a release occurs and then stopping their $ support (or at least changing the tier).

No one is forcing you to support the dev with $ - you can come here whenever a release is posted and enjoy it at no cost to you.

If you like it, you can then decide if you want to throw some $ their way.

I used to be a $ supporter but stopped when releases became so inconsistent.

I don't blame those who made the choice I did, nor do I blame those who continue to support the dev with $, for the timing of future releases.

'And everyone is happy. Both dev and audience.' Your opinion only, and nothing I've seen devs clamoring for.

The current system Is imperfect - but the results across the spectrum of AVNs are, IMO, much better than someone telling us how to spend our $.

We already have enough issues with Patreon telling us what can/cannot be in our AVNs, then changing the rules/their enforcement.

We don't need another regulating entity to tell us how we are allowed to support devs with our $.

Cheers!! :coffee:

True, but still... We have a saying where I'm from "The dog doesn't leave the butcher's".
Alorth already threatened to leave once. This was when SarD was busy eating SE's arse because he couldn't shut up about FFXVI. The massive delay and constant deadline missing really honked Alorth. The threat to leave the project FORCED SarD to get back to work.
If it goes on much longer, Alorth might issue a similar threat or just up and leave.

I said it before the current system is not sustainable since new dev with good looking games don't get much support while games like Radiant gets tons of subs yet barely produces anything and essentially milking the subs. My take on how to fix the system would be based 6 months system were if there is no update is released the account weather it Patreon or Subscribe star would label the dev account as being on hold. Notices would be sent to all subs weather still want to support the project or end it. No new people can sub to dev. The only way for the dev to remove the hold would be give a in depth update on what they been doingh for the past 6 months in order to remove the hold. This way it keep all dev honest and it would not affect devs that consistent with updates.

A rather overbearing solution to a non-existent problem. Just trust people to use their own judgment and make their own choices...

You are seriously misunderstanding what Patreon and SS are.
