I just finished playing Real Invader E2P1 and was blown away. I rate it up with my GOAT Eternum. I had to slow dowm my game play because I really did not want it to come to an end and leave me bereft and wanting the next part. Sadly I am now in that space.

I was hoping for a decent game, but loved everything about it, writing, humour, story - I struggle to find anything about it that is less than excellent.
I hope it continues.

Hey, public update time.

I'm getting a little depressed again about the pacing of this update. I constantly fall short of my own assigned quotas and just can't seem to escape from this slump. I want to make clear that progress is still being made, but it's so much slower than it should be.

I've wondered what the reason for this may be. Maybe working on this game at such a high level with no help for 2 years has finally caught up to me. Maybe I bit off more than I can chew when it comes to the quality of the game. After all, I'm putting more care into the graphics and post-production than ever before. But right now I have a leading theory. Which is this year's disruption of my workflow. I'd explained previously that in Summer I was essentially evicted from my workstation due to house repairs. This left me unable to render so I resorted to only writing. Once that was done, all that was (and still is) left to do is rendering.

This is a departure from how I previously tackled development. I'd write a chapter and render it. But now, with nothing left to write, there's no break from rendering, and I think the hundreds upon hundreds of renders and animations I have to do without reprieve is causing burnout. For months now, I come home from work and it's just... "More rendering?" My motivation is through the floor, and I'm trying to scramble and reassemble some form of drive.

As I've said earlier, progress is moving forward, I've still been trying to render daily even if I fall short of the standard I've set in previous updates. For a while now I've estimated that the events of the summer have set me about 3 months behind schedule. Which is a harrowing number to look at.

The update won't release this year. It's not possible, especially with animations, and for that I apologize. I do want to make clear that we're still in the ballpark of an early 2025 release. As disappointed as any of you may be to hear that the end isn't quite in sight yet, remember that no-one is as upset about this as I am. Regardless, production continues. I'm not running away or telling you white lies. I'm still struggling through this. I love having a way to tell this story and express my creativity, I love looking back at my gorgeous renders (especially this update, the eye-candy is off the charts).

I'm animating a lewd scene right now, once this animation is done I desperately need to fulfil my custom render requests and release wallpapers. So expect them ASAP.

I'm sick of posting about my shortcomings and airing my weaknesses, but I value transparency even if there's a hurdle to admitting it. Thanks to everyone still supporting me and those who are still hyped for the new update.

I love you guys and all I ask is for your patience and understanding. I'm exhausted and definitely overworked. The update will come on soon-ish, just not super soon.

I love your game and everything about it. I just found it on a weak recommendation and instantly think this is one of the greats. Really, this is up there with my long standing favourite Eternum. I even had to slow down my game play for fear of coming to the end and getting that feeling of loss like a little berevement. Sadly I am there now and really hoping I get to continue this amazing story however long it takes.

The renders are great, but the story, humour and dialogue is on another level. I really appreciate the character development and enjoy the slow burn without jumping straight to the goodies with each individual LI.

I am so sad to hear that you are struggling with the render workload and motivation, but don’t stress yourself. I am sure I am not alone in hoping for the quality of the story to continue regardless of how long you need to get on top of everything that you need to do to feel happy with your creation.

Don’t succumb to the pressure of expectation – great things take time to create.

Honestly, Companion of Darkness guy should just work on his own fucking game. That game has only gotten worse with the commissioned animations. They just feel so out of place with the rest of the game. Let Gary make his own game.
It's completely normal to hire other people to help out or improve your own work. Division of labor has been around for decades, man, and there's nothing wrong with it. Plus, if Gary accepted the job, I’d assume he had the ability to handle both things — developing his own game and working on the commissioned animations. If he couldn’t manage that, then that’s entirely on him, since he agreed to it in the first place. The Companion of Darkness guy isn't to blame for any of that

I disagree.
He is clearly guilty.
His bullshit game still exists.

You cannot say he can handle both when it's been more than a year since his latest update, I think this is very disrespectful for his own patreons.
I agree that CoD dev isn't to blame here, this is all on Gary at least he could have waited to release his own update before accepting this commission.

It is more than a year because he wants to do massive Updates instead of dividing it into smaller Chunks. He could easily do an Update every 3 or 4 months and they would still be great, both in quality and quantity.

Where am I? Where's the game now? What's going on?
Hey, guys, more of open-policy Gary with a generalized update (because I really need to unfuck the last year of bad communication).

I finished working for Companion of Darkness a while ago, don't worry about that. Sucks that it ate just over a week of Realm Invader time. And Berkili4, if you're reading this. No, I'm not doing it again, especially before I put out Ep 2 Pt 2. Anyway, the point is that I've been comfortably back working on Realm Invader for the past however long it's been.

Animations are genuinely exhausting, and I dread lewd scenes for this very reason. The juxtaposition against the torment of animating and the praise I get for them is kinda funny, but I digress. I really like how this scene is turning out, I re-read the script in preparation of rendering it and I think it's really cute and well-written, with loads of those interpersonal dynamics and banter my writing usually focuses on. And the renders/animations I've done so far are really nice.

I'm very nervous about doing this next part, I'm always nervous about doing things like this.

But I think, finally, for the first time in this update's development, I'm confident enough to give some kind of release window.

I cannot stress enough how difficult it is to predict these kinds of things. Every time I've done it before, I tried too early and was out by a factor of months; this is why I've left it so long this time. But here we go...

With all things considered, needing to do audio, the remaining renders and animations, and a potentially tricky piece of coding.
We have:

Best case scenario: 6-7 weeks-ish

More realistic scenario: 8-10 weeks-ish

Worst-case scenario: Rabies

Things will become clearer to both me and you guys as things progress. I plan on walking you through these last stages of development with me, so we can all see it becoming clearer if I'm working fast, slow, if it looks like my prediction was a little too hopeful, or maybe if I'm making great progress, whatever.

So great, now I'm fueling myself with anxiety because I alluded to a release date, yippee!
