Still running back through the game, and am now at the point in the party where Chloe and Grace talk to Vineeta on the phone. But I'm still paying attention to the Stella situation, because she's just adorable.

So Ronald goes to the hospital, texts MC to go keep Stella company (as if MC needed any motivation in that regard), he arrives, and Stella just loses her shit. He tries a calming spell, to no avail. And then he does something else to her, whereupon he sees this:
1763491703648.png

Ummm... what? This looks like a young Stella. She appears to have blood on her face. She seems to be standing in a pool of, well, something.

She was freaking out, it seemed, over the thought that Ronald might not come back. Are we seeing here a flashback dealing with her parents? She looks too old for that (she looks closer to 10 than to 5), but... Or other thoughts?

Game simply become unresponsive at the party when discussing what is common about the girls the rich bastard is interested in. It jumps to some techno/dubstep and animations and just loops.. No mouse or keyboard interaction moves the story forward.

For the game, it's simple: go to the photo of the two friends and click on the word “private” when it appears in yellow.

Check the log file. It may mention a missing file or something. Ren'Py bugs can break input.

Hmm weird, had some traceback errors the first time i started the game when accessing menu with right click. Granted had mods installed.
Deleted saves game folder and unpacked again, adding mods one by one again and no more issues. Maybe a bad unpacking?

Just finished up this update, and it reminds me a lot of the last update to Ripples:
  • Pretty much the whole update is the party
  • Lots of sexy time at the party
  • Complaints that nothing plot-related happened at the party and/or that it's "filler"
  • Lots of character development at the party
Unlike in Ripples, the party's still going at the end of the episode, though I get the feeling it's winding down.

I don't know at this point what's up with the "fact acquired" stuff--the only one I used was the photo of Hugo with his friend, and then there were more afterward. Seems kind of pointless, but maybe it will make more sense in Ep. 3.

As with Ripples, I don't agree that this is filler. Yeah, it isn't a lot of direct plot movement, but something big happens in the form of Clement. Even leaving aside what appears to happen to him at the end (and that cliffhangers are often misleading), he has a pretty good idea what's going on with MC--better than MC does, to all indications. MC suspects, and I agree with him, that he, Clement, and Lilian are alike in this regard. This still leaves a lot of questions, but it's one of few clues/leads we have in the "what happened to MC?" mystery.

But mainly, this was a chance to get more into many of the characters. And yes, even applying porn logic, it felt like we moved awfully fast (sexually) with, well, most of the characters. But...

Vineeta:
  • As before, she has no filter.
  • She's figured out that both Chloe and Grace are into MC
    • No surprise at all with Chloe; when we first meet Vineeta at the school we learn that Chloe's been gushing about MC to her for years
    • Apparently bet Chloe that MC and Chloe would kiss (was this just at the party? Or at all?)
    • Grace is a bit more of a surprise, but I guess the incident after the swim meet was a clue. Grace isn't exactly subtle, but it didn't seem like Vineeta had known her very long.
  • Almost seemed like she was stirring the shit on the phone with Grace--trying to get Grace and Chloe in competition. But I think it was more a matter of trying to motivate Grace to do something.
Grace:
  • I know the "approved" answer was that she looked badass in her dress, and she did, but she also looked hot. Like, really hot.
    • Chloe's shot of Grace with the rifle turns "badass and smoking hot" up to 11.
  • Loved her and MC finally being honest with each other. And that MC was the first one to say it.
  • More than a little surprised she's OK sharing MC, to the point of mentioning it unprompted--though she knows Cadence is there, even if she didn't know Cadence and MC were already messing around. But she doesn't yet know she'll be sharing him with her mom and sister(s?).
  • My LI ranking relies heavily on the relationship between MC and the LI; this may have Grace threatening Stella's #1 spot in my book.
    • Grace checks a lot of my blocks. Friends-to-lovers? Check. Childhood friend? Check. Years-long crush resolved? Check. And it was pretty obvious from the outset that it was going to happen, but now it has. One thing I think is holding me back is that it's so sudden on MC's part--physicial or sexual attraction is evident in the locker room after the swim meet, but I don't recall seeing that he's romantically interested in her until he says so. But still, "they're in love with each other" is a really big point in her favor.
      • Incidentally, this is one of the places where I think this game's default to humor hurts the story a bit. MC says he loves her, says all these great things about her, and then says he's been in love with her since five minutes ago.
    • OTOH, Stella's just so cute. Yes, she looks cute, but she also acts so cute. And literally everyone--Noelle, Chloe, Cadence, Ronald, Big Kelley, hell, even the photographer at the college--already thinks they're together, or at least that Stella's into MC. MC even thinks Stella's texting him like a girlfriend. The mutual attraction is obvious, and MC's attraction to her is clear pretty much from the time he meets her. Stella's hesitant "I think you're starting to become someone who's special to me," and MC's equally hesitant response, feel a bit more "real" to me than MC's confession to Grace, I think.
Chloe:
  • I know it isn't really her look, but "dolled-up for the party" Chloe looked great, beautiful, and sexy, though not quite so overtly sexy as Grace or Miya.
  • Interesting--and entirely believable--that she and Grace each look to the other as more attractive.
  • We didn't get quite as far in terms of relationship as we did with Grace, but still big steps.
    • But she couldn't wait ten minutes to call Vineeta and let her know they'd kissed. Her words to MC were reserved, but she was more excited than she let on.
Miya:
  • So we took out the incest, but Miya has a massive mommy kink. Fair trade, I guess.
  • I'm not sure at this point if she's really into MC, if she just wants specifically him sexually, or if she's just horny and he's an available dick.
    • She obviously cares for MC a great deal, but it isn't clear (to me, at least) whether she's romantically interested in him. What I'm seeing in her lines sounds like it's more about the sex than about being in love with him (or anything in that direction).
  • MC's finally been honest with someone about his situation. Well, mostly honest. He's right about his relationship with magic, but he stops short of admitting that he's alien to this world. And even though it does feel like he has the same relationships with Miya and the girls as he had before, it still isn't him. Whether he's traveled to a different world, the world's changed around him, or something else is unknown at this point.
    • When he wakes up with Noelle next to him, he's doing the "magic thingy" like (she says) he always does--magnetism, which attracts her earrings. Our MC knows perfectly well he's never done this before.
    • The Greg/Christ thing (which makes me wonder if Gary is a MST3k fan). That isn't anything to do with magic, it's just the lore of this world.
  • Like Grace, Miya offers on her own to share MC. Of course, Miya knows MC and Cadence have been messing around--she may think she couldn't "win" against Cadence, so sharing is the next best thing.
  • She can't not know how Grace feels about MC, and most likely knows how Chloe feels as well--she is their mom, after all, and Grace is about as subtle as a heart attack. With Chloe being more reclusive, it's possible Miya hasn't noticed with her. Don't know how she feels (or if she's even thought) about sharing MC with her daughters.
Cadence:
  • She doesn't appear in this update at all, but dialogue with Grace, and internal monologue while with Miya, give a window into MC's feelings about her and their relationship.
  • I've been kind of unclear and/or conflicted about their relationship, and it looks like MC's even more so.
  • I think at some point you have to trust that she's telling the truth. She says she's very happy, and she has every reason to be--life with MC is an upgrade in every way from life with Lilian. Sure, Miya doesn't have Lilian's wealth, but she's willing to spend it on decent accommodations for Cadence.
  • Likewise, I think we have to trust that she genuinely likes MC, though in what way is a little unclear. At a minimum, she appreciates what she understands as his rescuing her.
  • So what about the blowjobs?
    • Is it "just what slaves do"? I think that's MC's big concern, but he likes the blowjobs, so he keeps going back despite feeling that he's taking advantage of her.
    • Is it simple gratitude? She seems to suggest this when she first offers. The suggestion here is that she doesn't have any particular desire to blow MC, but she's happy to do it out of gratitude for being rescued.
    • Is she actually into MC?
    • And, of course, her motivations can change.
    • FWIW, I don't think it's simply, or even mostly, a sense of obligation as a slave. But between gratitude and attraction to MC, I don't know.
  • Grace has good advice here, of course. Hopefully MC will take it and talk it out with Cadence.

I just think certain things should have been shorter because outside of learning a few new things there was nothing of substance, both the party and jokes dragged way too long.

Main-story-wise, not really. We got barely any progress outside of learning a few new things, but nothing of substance.

I like how Chloe's relationship progressed, although I would have saved everything after the tiger for some time alone in a future update. Grace was great, I think she was the one that benefitted the most in this update for me.

Lastly, I really didn't like Miya's presence at the party it felt absurd, either make her go from the beginning or don't.

Miya's presence at the party it felt absurd
Fair. I liked a lot of the dialogue with her, especially the serious part--she knows there's something going on with MC, and he (at least somewhat) comes clean about it. I think it's just his inner monologue while she's there, but we get some insight into his feelings about Cadence (and more of that, later with Grace). The lewd scene seemed, well, crazy, but it's what got us into that conversation. It does look like we're at "we're definitely having sex with Miya, and sooner rather than later" though.

The thing that made the party so frustrating to me, at least, was that it emblematic of the game's tone problems; it just doesn't seem capable of deciding what it wants to be. Every serious moment is undercut by jokes that often drag on, every plot point hampered by the MC being a doofus. It's pitched as a slow burn with lots of teasing, but already we're balls deep in two of the main girls and confessing love. We spend most of the night gathering "evidence", which then turns out to be two optional photos in a minigame that, while conceptually interesting, was poorly executed and should've appeared more imo. The excuse to bring Miya into the party setting is her becoming a fucking commando because of one goofy photo, and the excuse for the actual mission turns out to be bullshit.

I'm sure that I'll like this update a lot more eventually - as a diehard Grace fan, there's plenty to like, even if I think it was a weird skip forward in her route - but as of right now it all just feels so jarring and leaves a sour taste in my mouth, all for very little progress. I'll wait to reserve final judgement until the plot is more developed and we know A) what the fuck happened to Clement, and B) what the fuck is up with Ashley. But as of right now I can't say I truly enjoyed the update, even if I was happy to have more to play.

Every serious moment is undercut by jokes
I don't know about "every," but it's definitely a trend; I found it most striking with Grace.
we're balls deep in two of the main girls
I assume you mean in their mouths? Because I normally think of a different place when I hear "balls deep," and MC isn't there with anyone except in his dreams. But we do have two who have explicitly said they want it, which makes you think it's going to happen soon. Perhaps that will be the slow burn? MC's continually getting cock-blocked before they can do the deed?
1763650297739.png
confessing love
I loved and was frustrated by that sequence at the same time. Frustrated, because it seems to have come out of nowhere--I don't recall MC having a single line or thought indicating romantic interest for Grace. Physical attraction, sure (obviously in the locker room); caring about her, sure; but not a word of romance. Chekhov's gun, and all that. Also frustrated because (going back to your observation that "everything's a joke") MC tells her it started 5 minutes ago. Even that could have worked, if it were, "I don't think I realized it until just now, when we were dancing." But no, it started 5 minutes ago. Grace's frustration was entirely appropriate IMO.

But loved it because I think it's genuine. I don't think MC's just saying it to get in her pants; he gave several thoughtful reasons that really ring true. He's certainly a doofus, but I take him to be sincere here.
the actual mission turns out to be bullshit.
Definitely. The real reason was that Ashley was there to steal something (though the last we saw of him and Hugo made it look like the ball-kicking did happen). What? Dunno--though maybe some of our more eagle-eyed folks spotted something at the firecracker scene. It's something that he thinks is important enough to manipulate and use several "close friends." And why? What did they do to help him?

And, for that matter, what's the story between him and the doomchild?

Yeah I agree with this point, there are times when Gary's humor works and times when he seems to try to force it too much and to me during the party specially falls on the second.

If you played an update where MC's dick is inside anyone's pussy, then no, we didn't. He's about to enter Miya when Grace knocks on the door (leading to the image I posted).* He's about to enter Grace, but she doesn't want to do it in a place where she can't lock the door. Leading to this reaction from MC:
1763659715678.png

I assume those are the two you're talking about, but he's never inside either of them.

He does a lot with Grace, and there's plenty of contact between their respective naughty bits, but he never enters her.

*Correction: he just begins to enter Miya when Grace comes in--"just the tip." So yes, some part of his penis was inside Miya's vagina. He was not at any time "balls-deep" in her.

Totally agree, I really love this game and is definitely in my top list so far but the who party just felt so off and weird. Funny thing is on his Patreon Gary says he got a lot of love for it but I just found it a massive disappointment and even cringed a few times.

Well better that he gets some love after how long it took to release, be glad he didn't just give up.

I support him on Patreon and love this game but I don't have to like everything he does. The game is one of the best there is but that party sucked.
I think I misunderstood you, if he got a lot of love while taking so long developing then he deserves it, but if it was only for the party content of this last chapter then I agree it wasn't that good.
