I do that too most of the time if one is not available. Not a big fan of the patch type. I personally prefer to change the dialog in the script.rpy file instead.
Haha, that's too much work for me to do each time, I'm lazy. I will only do that for a couple of games. It has already become a nuisance for me and The Synthetic, it is even worse for the fact the dev has it built in and is looking for a "patch" but it stops working after episode 1, even though the code is there. So, the only fix is script.
A lot of problems could be solved by relationship, a few games do it right and you can just drop a relationship file and be good to go, and some have it hidden and you just flip the on/off switch.
