The game has a top notch art style, identical to the tv series, plus it's animated. Rn it has a good amount of h-content overall. He's also very transparent on his patreon. That's not what I call a lazy dev tbh.

Hm, this makes me think that the fact that he's doesn't excel at coding (seen from the bugs and clunky interface), his game testing / iterative process might suffer from this.
If he has to constantly play the game and can't debug specific moments because he hasn't coded any debugging tools in, this would waste a lot of his time from having to play the game normally. This is just a guess though.
