VN - Ren'Py - Completed - Rick and Morty: Another Way Home [r4.0P7] [Night Mirror]

I think this warrants 5/5

WHAT I LIKE:

- The art is close enough to the show
- Humour feels true to the show (most of the time)
- The pacing of the scenes is mostly great, very few moments where I felt like I was wasting my time ( most of the scenes with Rick were the least interesting of the game for me)
- Characters act in a believable way (most of the time)
- Getting more of Tricia was a welcomed surprise ! She's certainly the perfect character for a game like this one
- Morticia is a fantastic idea ! And the development during the game is often funny and at times surprisingly heart-warming if you make those choices, otherwise you can be a total dick. But I think that's a good sign where I choose to act kindly towards a character in a porn game, going against my strong fetishes
- There are a LOT of scenes and the game remembers some choices you make, bringing them up for flavour as you go. this is a touch I wish more games did ! Choices can be meaningful even if they don't change the course of the story because what they tell you about the character can be as important, if not more imo
- You can be a total creep if you want to, some stuff were a bit too much for me, but the option is here and that's awesome
- Overall, it feels like this was written by someone/people that trully love the show and not only the memes around it or the dumb humour


WHAT I DON'T LIKE (basically nitpicks I think)
- Summer and Morty calling themselves "Bro" and "Sis" this much feels odd. I might be wrong, but I think they call themselves mostly by their names in the show. Seeing them using Bro/Sis just feels like cheap incest-fetish triggers. I think this could be toned down and still retain the incest-value, while at the same time making the characters closer to the show
- Purely subjective: I don't enjoy self-referencial humour, so when the joke is about something they did in the show or a comic, it falls flat for me. The only one that stuck was Rick turning into a pickle to avoid responsabilities because I like imagining that he does that every time it happens so it becomes repetition humour more than referencial, and I'm more receptive to the occasionnal running gag.
- aaaaaand... I think that's it for my issues with the game ? Maybe some scenes were less interesting than others ? But that hardly qualifies as an issue worth mentionning in the face of the game's qualities

I didn't play the original Unity version, only this Ren'Py remake, but this is a great parody porn game. I don't think you need to watch the original show to enjoy this, but I would still recommend watching it to understand some concepts, mostly the stuff that the character Rick comes up with and some of the references. The art of the game also stays pretty loyal to the original show, with some "upgrades" to the female bodies in the sex scenes.

Speaking of which, even though it has "Rick and Morty" in the title, Morty is the protagonist of this game, and Rick is more of a supporting character. Yes, Morty gained a very big penis and he's going to fuck all the women. And that includes family members.

This game also has a cool feature where it tells you what sort of thing will happen in the next sex scene when picking choices, so no surprises that will turn you off and no need for an annoying walkthrough.

If this sort of thing is up to your alley, and especially if you watched the Rick and Morty show, you should give this game a try. By now, it has plenty of content worth playing.

I was surpriced of how much content there is.
Played straight the RenPy version since the other one required grind.
Its overall a good game with lots of content, animations are good and we all love the art style

Dude keep it up! I think you are doing a great job. I am here for the changes of the dialogue mainly, as I love incest pregnancy and I bet the Dev does as well, and the game shows it luckily . Can't wait for Beth's pregnancy to actually develop!

"A Better Way Home"
This is rating over unity vs rpy.

The original unity is awful. It could be great in that engine if done right, but there never was any improvement given every opportunity and player feedback.

This makes a decent 4/5 game playable.

I love this remake. The port to the RenPy engine adds much needed features like skipping. The mindblowers section is also completely redone to make it easier to navigate.

Despite this, the art and animation is still true to the original quality and I'm pretty sure that there may even be a few things that were added.

5/5, check it out. Also be sure to give the original by Ferfdafs some love.

Way better than the original, and keeps you immersed by railroading the experience instead of making you go find it. Also, thanks to what Night Mirror did with his coding of this game through Ren'Py, I have yet suffered the fate of having to start over again from 0 which was a common occurrence with the original, which oddly enough, saved my interest in this game.

Until the original receives its final update, Night Mirror's version is THE way to play it.

Amazing ! Enjoyed the detail and immersion in this. Would love for it to be updated and extended continuously in the future! Hope the OP doesnt give up on this. Will add it to my watch list. Not often I review a game but this deserves it. It's smooth and enjoyable to play. Not many choices/nor a free sandbox however it just feels right. Perhaps in the future OP will add more choices to the game. Looking forwaard to it already

I have played the original game and since to a degree it is based off summertime sega, with a rick and (Morty) spin to it, I have to say I really enjoyed this game, the original game was good, but their were a lot of bugs, E.g, the timeless searching around for the story, skipping, the map and a few minor things, but this game has completely thrown that concept out, and I have to day, it worked.



Looking through the comments everyone loves the game, and I concur with those statements, the dialogue added is great, and the fact you now actually have meaningful choices really makes me enjoy the game. There is only one part of partial criticism I to a degree have, and depending on your point of view its not really that bad. Its that what you do in the game has (in most of the events) has not effect on the general storyline, Its not really a fault of anyone or really a bad thing at all and I know some people may hate it while others enjoy it, it doesn't really matter.



But I'd just like to add this, I hope you carry on updating the game, and improving the work because I tell you its a great game that you've composed. And just another thing I'd like to add, all the changes you've made have been for the betterment of the game, and it really shows. I'd just like to say I prefer this game to the original and wish you could update it without relying on other developers to finish updating their game. Keep up the great work.

You can see that Night Mirror really cares about this game cuz of the amount of details, like Jerry's nick for example, the original game from Ferdafs does not have a lot of variety (still a good game tho), and its more like an dating simulator, thats why i like this one more, because it gives you more content in less time, for the fact that it is a visual novel, you just click and sees the history, the choices that you have are bigger and the characters are more developed through out the history.

summing up everything, cool game, nice characters, the history is intrigant, just some typing mistakes but its understandable.
4/5 will play more

Woah, what a great, great game. Sure the arts come from the original one and the original's creator deserves a ton of praise for it. However, the original would only get a 3/5 because the gameplay there is horrendous. It's sluggish, slow and makes the pacing of the game very bad. Here, however, all those issues are solved and you get a tight package that is incredible to play.

Great scenes, great art, good variety of kinks and an interesting story. This game has really surprised me for how great it is.

Take a good game that's burdened with sandbox and a game engine that takes longer to play when I just want parody story and fapping. Convert that into a game engine that's unburdened and very, very read and fappable. Mix well. But don't look at what you're mixing. I just admitted to fapping a lot. Definitely don't touch that spoon.
The result when it comes out of the oven is a 5 star conversion of what was already a 4 star game. Bravo and excellent work.

The original was great but this is amazing, proper saving, skipping, auto mode, basically everything that makes ren'py great with the art of the original, along with new paths and dialogue. Absolutely 10/10

The original is great and it's fantastic that someone remade this in ren'py. A fun little fantasy in a universe we've all come to enjoy is always welcome! Really enjoyed replaying this with all the quality of life changes!

Man this renpy port really did wonders it's fully deserving of a 5 star rating the original game was a grinding buggy mess but i wasn't aware that there was such a good game hiding beneath it the renpy port remove all that boring ass parts and put all the good parts together and voila we have ourselves a master piece so much better than any other game here kudos to the original dev for creating such an authentic looking art and to the renpy port dev for such a good excellent port.

Reviewers Note: I have not played the original game this content came from so I'm leaving the review here. I would like to credit Ferdafs for the art and most of the story but am only going to talk about the gameplay as it is in this port.

Overview: Morty is trapped in another dimension, can he fuck his way back home?

Story: This is a Rick and Morty parody obviously, but unlike a lot of parody games it mines a lot of the source material for good content to twist into porno situations. Given the running theme of Morty's horniness in the show this is not that hard, but even beyond that they sex up things like Pickle Rick and Meeseeks. The only notably missing reference I noticed was Annie (puffy vagina) from Anatomy Park. The scenes are varied and have a lot of original ideas even though most end up with blowjobs and sometimes sex. The game does add a few original characters like Girl Morty. The sex tends to skew a bit more vanilla, with anal being about as far as the dev is willing to go. There's some light spanking on occasion but for the most part sex scenes are HJ, BJs, Cuni, PIV, and PIA. Of course it is loaded with incest. Later in the game you get a few more group scenes but even these are somewhat sparse.

Gameplay: It's a VN with a few "do/don't do" scene choices and a bit of customization in how people refer to other people. The amount of content should be noted as this is a very long game if you play it straight through. I spread it out over multiple days, and I think it must be over 10 hours, maybe closer to 15. And not because of some stupid grind, there is no grind, that's just the amount of content you go through.

Art: Keeps the show's style quite well. What is interesting is that unlike Simpsons porn parody games this one actually works. You can fap to this especially as it has very good pacing with the porn scenes. You are never 2,000 words away from the next sex scene the way you are in so many VNs. It also doesn't fall into the trap of having the MC walk into the room and go "we fuk now" and start a sex scene, there is always some story to it. There is quite a lot of story in this game that is not directly porn related.

Conclusion: An excellent game even if you haven't watched the show, but for fans it's even better.

Concern: At the end of the game the dev has a note that new content may be inserted into the middle of the game. This game that does not have a way to navigate to different parts of the game and is also very long. This seems like it may be a problem for people trying to find the new content. Replaying 15 hours of game to get 4 new scenes is a big nope from me. I would hope Night Mirror would add a "jump to day" option in future releases and if he does add content on say day 14 we could load our save then jump to that day to see the new stuff. Maybe Morty could uncover a time machine in the garage or something?

Edit: The dev reached out to me and pointed out that the "do over" option in the main menu already does this. Crisis averted.

I've always wanted to try out the Unity version, like it seems like the author put a lot of effort to get something going, but to get through was simply just too tedious and a hassle to get through, every time I was playing it, I was wishing there was a ren'py version of it, and now, here it is, the opportunity to read it comfortably now exists, and it's very well done.

I'm just here to say that I truly appreciate Night Mirror's work. It's a hell of a project to take on for no pay or anything but internet fame! Mad props! Thank you for this amazing port.

I didn't have much hope trying this game seeing the drawings in the previews.
But I was wrong! It was really good and the drawings were hotter than I expected. However if the graphics were better this game would've got 5/5.

Can't say I found anything amiss with the language as I really didn't care that much about the story as I was clicking my way through it. I should return and read the story properly some day.

I haven't played the original version but reading the other reviews I could leave that out.

Better than the original, much easier to play. It should have been made in Ren'Py from the start. Better gallery mode, which after the first few updates, is the only mode I really care about anymore. No downsides to this version, it's a great port full of upgrades.
