i'm going to be fair and say that at the very least, Rare said on their SS ["Feel free to cancel subs or whatever. You all know that I approach this as a tipjar, I want you to just tip a bit when or if you feel like "aight that was a wank worth 1$ tip idm." Was disappointed again seeing that he delayed and didn't progress enough with the game. May be back or not at this point, even though I love the art of Rare and didn't mind waiting and all I kinda got tired seeing how he goes back again to delay it due to little progress made in months.

one year without any word on patreon and 2 years without update when he said 5 months? looks like abandoned alright

I'm not surprised.
Apparently from what I understand, the author now has chosen another internet rando to work on the rpg maker side of things, so we can expect another fiasco anytime this year (last one bailed on the project). You can't just get random non-professional people online to work on a project without actually actively managing the project, and the author admit themselves of being a low motivation, low discipline coomer, so here you go.
Also I find the author extremely dismissive and self indulgent, first by acting surprised when their estimated update release dates were widely inaccurate, and by freely partaking in interactions with the dedicated fans that enable the procrastinatio.
But in any case, the author, although very disorganized, has made it clear on their page that there are no set expectations or fixed dates, and invites people to susbcribe or donate if they feel like it without guarantee of anything given back.

I think he made a mistake of trying to do everything himself. He said how he enjoyes making art but then put the development on hold because he wasn’t happy with the gameplay. 1,5 years later, no news of progress. So I’d say he probably needs a programmer to help him out
Relax. You're excessively worrying about the meme. And also, to the dev's credit, he's not scamming people. He explicitly stated that he'll update the game when he wants to; he, too, doesn't ask for donations as shown in the attached image. He just tends to procrastinate, I assume, and doesn't want to be enslaved with strictly developing the game.

I mean, sure some of the big devs earning 1000s a month for nothing are taking advantage, but this guy? Dude makes peanuts and his content is pretty great (art wise).

H-games are made from passion and a lot of time, let the time tell if there is a tomorrow for this project or if we should forget it but for the moment it is still too soon in my opinion. Maybe he got very sick or busy in his life, or he just like to take his time to do things good. If you don't want to support it then don't pay, it is that simple
In his discord, he explained why the update has not yet been released. Most of his time is taken up by his day job and moving to another state, after which he will be more active in the game.
