he meant, that we waited a year for this update.
No i know, it'll end up being 9-10 months more than likely.

It is what it is, quality takes time, I knew that then I started working on a VN myself. renders alone took me an entire day to pose, that's without writing, implementing it or post processing. Rendering alone took like six hours and that's on a 4080 Super with a 7800x3D. There's a reason I abandoned it, after writing 40k odd words lmao

If its a high quality VN, then I just kinda expect a year (or close to it) turnaround

Yeah, because its so necessary to make 4k images in VNs, especially when real quality ends somewhere near 720p because of engine limitations, and if you dont put really great amount of effort, difference between 720 and 4k will be only in "garbage" upscale pixels. I could make 96*96 logo into 8k png image, but should I?

Rendering at 4k then downsampling to 1080p is the standard, for Daz anyway, not sure about HS. Rendering at 4k reduces Aliasing (Jagged edges), brings through details such as skin pores and hair strands and these details are retained when downsampling. Due to it being rendered at a higher resolution, it allows shadows to have a higher fidelity and reduces the amount of work the denoiser has to do.

Which is mute, because as my post said, I spent all day posing the shots, not rendering. It rendered overnight while I slept, the physical act of setting up the environments, sorting the materials, lighting, camera settings are what took the majority of the time, and thats without even going into branching, or animations or anything of that matter. The thing that caused me to stop wasn't render times, it was I didn't have time to commit to spending days posing, and I just heavily dislike Daz's workflow/navigation.

To bring it back on topic to Ripples, the VN is written better than anything I could've done, with a million more Renders than i'd ever have to do with a million more animations. I don't know Jestur's workflow, he could render machines pumping out renders, but for me anyway, the rendering wasn't the bottleneck.

And for the sake of argument, zoom in to see the details

Two questions about the rendering:
What resolution?
and
6h per Render or for all renders?

EDIT:
I shouldve read the other replies too lmao.
Question 2 still stands tho

All renders, generally at 4k with my machine (again RTX 4080 Super/7800x3d/32gb DDR5) it pumps out a normal render at about 10-15 minutes a piece, that's fine. When you add stuff like reflections (e.g. the external shot of the car, that took like an hour or two maybe), the two mirror shots were like 30-35 minutes each.

Like I said, the rendering wasn't the issue, that was the easy part, but I could very easily see it stacking up with animations and stuff

Yeah animation would take a shit ton of time lol.

Btw Im asking this for myself haha been thinking of doing my own visual novel and i pretty much have the same rig for this so its a nice reference point for me.

Well that is if I can write a story lmao (help)

I guess not for the official android version that is in the OP with links. But if you do a little search "android (version of the game)" in this game thread you will find a post with an android version with LightmanP multi mod built in and that mod has the incest patch.
doesn't the game run on joiplay?

Sorry, I have no idea. Never played any VN on my phone and "never" will hehe I already have sight issues, not gonna extensively read or focus on images on my phone. Guess I'm old fashioned, also I'm from the PC generation and not really from the smart phone generation :p, have one but mostly to be contactable. Maybe someone who have experience playing with it running joiplay can give you an answer.

How long does testing usually take? Really hoping for a release this weekend!
I would say 1 or 2 weeks of testing/bug fixing but that is just speculation based on what usually people mention that take on high quality games but if you read the last devlog (May 15th) it says that besides testing there is/was still a long last scene to be made and with animations and those take longer.

Again like I said previously don't expect the update before mid-late June, it is just not feasible for a release this weekend, there isn't even an ETA or release date for what I'm aware of. Games like Ripples that Jestur the dev raises the bar in quality by polishing it on post production takes time.

I do not mind waiting, this is an excellent game and worth the waiting for official release.

Haha, I think that was actually one of the first theories mentioned in this thread. If you use the search bar at the top right, you’ll see it pretty quickly. Still, I’m not sure that theory will hold up over time. It all depends on how the story unfolds.
