And why doesn't anyone say that when it comes to Eternum? The game is leaked here as soon as it's published on Patreon, they don't let Caribdis scratch, but then Ripples comes out and no one leaks it and they want Jestur to make money, in short, hypocrisy.
Wut? People absolutely say that in the Eternum thread whenever a new release is imminent. They just get buried by every other post asking for a leak or a hero, lol.

Also when you consider the number of paid subs it's pretty understandable why the chances of an early leak in one game is a lot higher than the other.

the difference is Caribdis has like 7k paid subs, while Jestur something like 1,5k (which is not bad, but Ripples still makes significantly less money than Eternum does)

I"m stoked. But please dont leak it yet, Let our dude make some scratch!
Pretty pumped to play the new release myself but wouldn't be disappointed if it takes a while to leak. This game is fucking great and Jestur deserves every penny they make from it.
don't take this the wrong way, but this is the most bullshit argument in every single patreon game. These developers contantly getting the money while they developing so in the past year, Jestur did make "some scratch"

surely if they only get money when they release a new update, than so called piracy would be indeed have negative effect on them, and I would understand this type of simping , but its not that case.

Not in this game, nor in Eternum, or badik or any other patreon community supported game.

so when an episode leaks here after the 5 second the developer uploaded it, he not lose anything , in fact in most case they actually gain extra patrons during the month when they release an episode.
dpc for exanple who has a steady 13.000 patreon, during all year when developing the new episode, when that drop and it is here after the first 30 second, he usally jump to 17 or even 20.000 patreon in that mounth.

Caribdis also usually gain extra subscribers during a new release.

so this argument has been proven invalid from a long time now.

Sorry, but I don't get your logic where quickly leaking an update on a pirate site helps increase Patreon subscribers. Looks like bullshit argument and I would like to see the evidence base for it.

he never said the leaks helped increase the number of subscribers if you read it again... just that even with all that during a release their subs still go up, so it doesn't affect their bottom line all that much. But that's mostly true only for these bigger devs. Small ones in fact can feel the effects of an early leak.

F95 since the beginning (and even before) has always been a pirating site to share games; whether those games are free, patreon delayed, premium, whatever, lets no delude ourselves remember this is a pirate site.
no one is forced to share, no one need to share, but if one has the game, why boast about it? good for u, and good that u support, but we are still in a pirate site and people want to pirate stuff.
to have a good morale, fine, to help the dev, fine. but we are still in a pirate site.
its ridiculous to start morale about piracy.

there are few types of people. One: after playing the game they will subscribe, Two: "it's leaked so i will not subscribe", Third: "Why there is no leak! i need to play it now!!! Give it to me!!! UGH!!!" (few hours later) "FINE!! I WILL SUBSCRIBE!!! GIVE IT TO ME!!", there are some more but those 3 are the "main" ones.

I'm gladly providing you proof.. :geek:
as You can see and as I said, here is DPC form January, during the development of episode 11 the most recent one, in January he reached more than 14.000 paid subscription , this was the same for February too.
dpc1.png

in March the new episode was dropped and as you can see in the graphic chart, it went way above the usual on that month.
The episode was released on March 7 for the highest tier paid members 25 bucks. and it was here nearly 30 second later. give or take.
dpc2.png

peaking at exactly, 19.878, in the last day of March. so in that mount when he released a new episode what was here like 1 minute after he released it. He gain extra 5000 paid members

Any more question ?

Patreon subscriber counts always increase during a new update, regardless of the game, and the leak affects this increase. As you rightly pointed out, smaller developers are more vulnerable to damage from this, especially those who can't sell their game on steam.

To say that it doesn’t affect them in any way is a downright lie.

Basically, yep. And it's the 3rd type that devs profit from if there are no early leaks. To pretend there's no noticeable difference in income whether there's an early leak or not is either naive or purposefully obtuse. Especially when you see how thirsty people are for the update here. Some will cave and pay if it doesn't leak fast simply because they really want to play it asap.

I'd be pumped to play this early and if it leaks so be it. This is a pirate site and I partake like everyone else here. I just won't be disappointed if it doesn't.

That's right, I wrote about it in the message above. Do you think he would have had more than 5000 new subscribers if the game hadn't leaked in the first minute? Yes / No.
