It's Kim and Cara, grasping hands. It's meant - in my head - to depict Cara "saving" Kim from her inner darkness. Whether that actually happens (or even *needs* to) will be entirely based on player choices, but it's just something i thought looked cool, and was thematic for the Save screen. :)
Yeah it's a really beautiful piece.

lol, don't get me started on my techniques in Daz, i'll never shut up about it XD But, the components are fairly simple. It's just them grasping hands, a little particle add, magic effects and a camera shifted on the z axis :)

Hey everyone!

So we're in wrap up mode! I have a few more things to code in tomorrow, but after that I will dropping it for one month early release for the Tier 4 supporters. Ergo, public release is one month from tomorrow! !!!!!IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!!!: As I've mentioned a few times (and just want to reiterate) this update is a Quality of Life / UI Improvement / bugfix update. There is no content added for it, so if you want to skip it, I understand. That said, the following changes have been made for Rivers of Astrum, version 0.2.1:

  • Support Galleries and in-game Choice benefits have been implemented, as well as an option added to the main menu screen to input supporter codes.
  • Support Codes will change with every release. And will be handed out to supporters privately.
  • All of the game's animations have been upgraded to 60 FPS! ... Save one. This one has been upped to 40FPS.
  • An opening animation has been added to the game as well, as I'm sure you'll notice. This is a work in progress.
  • All dynamic messages displaying relationship changes have now been centered on the screen.
  • Relationship changes will be displayed in different colors, to indicate the degree of loss or gain.
  • Many User Interface elements changed/updated. This brings us pretty close to the final form, but I always expect they may need to change or be tweaked in the future.
  • Tutorials on game-specific features have been added to the introduction overview (that plays once upon starting the game). It's all pretty straightforward, but you never know.

And that's it! Now, to start work on the next content update!

You say that as if it's a bad thing. I love hearing people talk about their creative process.

That progress update sounds pretty impressive.

Heh, I just don't wanna bore people to tears or chase them off yammering on about it on these forums. If you swing by the discord though, i do it all the time over there!

Hey guys!

So, a few things have changed since the last update, primarily in what i hope will allow for quicker releases. Basically im just shortening the amount of content in the releases to make them faster. But, for clarification, this in NO WAY means that the story is changing at all. It will simply be divided into smaller working sections than before, to allow for slightly faster updates. No content will be lost, skipped, or half-assed. I'm very proud of the story so far, and want to continue to be, so it'll maintain the current standard. Just wanted to let everyone know! That said. I'm actually starting on the last major content scene for version 0.2.15 (since im splitting 0.2.2 in half, the next one will be 0.2.15). 0.2.2 will still end at the exact same point it was originally planned to :)

If anyone has questions, feel free to hit me up!

Version 0.2.1 is live for Public download! Links have been updated in the OP. I went ahead and pushed it out a couple of hours early, so I can get to sleep tonight XD

It's definitely worth noting that THERE IS NO CONTENT UPDATE IN THIS VERSION!

The focus of version 0.2.1 was to polish the user interface, and implement supporter benefits. As such, the general player may not have much interest in it, but a few things were changed within the regular gameplay itself. Cara's campfire story is now a good bit more theatrical, for example.

I do still encourage everyone to take a look at the user interface, and all the new screens, and tell me what you think :)
Projects like this are made so much more engaging with feedback, so I'm always encouraging that :D

Another thing of note, and definitely a failing on my part, is that - up till now - I have worked on the game without placing much priority on keeping the game compatible with saves from previous versions. In all future versions, I will make that a priority, so as to not have to cause people to start over with every release. Apologies if this has gotten on anyone's nerves.

As always, you guys are rockstars! I'm so grateful that you like the game! Please don't hesitate to hit me up anywhere with feedback or suggestions!

Not sure if Itch.io is updating correctly but it seems like the public of v0.2.1 is still the old v0.2 (900MB)? Just a heads up, might double check, I've checked it twice.

Yeah i mentioned that in the changelog notes and on the announcement post on itch. Version 0.2.1 exceeds 2GB, which exceeds their standard file size limit. I've emailed itch.io support to have it increased, but until they respond there's not much i can do.

Oh, I guess I missed that :FacePalm:

I know other developers just add MEGA/Proton/Google Drive, and so on links instead.

Using .7z might get you under the 2GB limit.

You could always put my compressed version there if you want ;)
