I know it's not the place to discuss this, but it triggered me.
What a weird and bad analogy.
We used manure for agriculture.
Collecting and selling horse shit was a job. A dangerous job for obvious reasons, but also because you could get mugged by people stealing your shit.
Nowadays, even though we overproduce methane with heavy cow husbandry, we still don't have enough manure and have to use more polluting, less sustainable, and more soil-killer chemical fertilizers. Add to that the pollution caused by cars, trucks, trains, ships and boats, the rarefaction of fossil energy, and suddenly, swimming in manure is not such a bad idea.
