the most frustrating and boring game I've ever played on this site. The change is boring and time consuming, the lockpick is frustrating and annoying, not to mention that every transition, every little thing takes too long.
The story has a very good potential, but the game itself is boring, frustrating and too time consuming.
Try to lighten up on useless details like setting up a table, banging a hammer on the wall, and being more succinct.

When are the "I wish it would be a virtual novel" grifters going to finally abandon the thread? :sneaky:

This game is a massive grind at the beginning, to the point i just put some music on and did the renovating and installing the internet wich is the worst. However, the game story is pretty interesting and the renders and characters are super well done.
I said it once and i'm gonna say it again, if you can overcome the grindness of the game, it can be better than most games around here, and if the developer keeps cutting a bit on the grind and working on his strong points it can be one of the best games in this forum.

I agree with almost all you have said but I disagree with that first part about a "massive grind" at the beginning. It is not as described. It's rather than some people just want don't want games and they are expecting this to be another Renpy novel where they keep pressing the space bar and soon get to the nudity.
The first part is actually where the mechanics are shown, and sets the tone to the story. That works like a puzzle/click adventure game. And this is where we get to the core of all this: this-is-a-game-not-another-damn-virtual-novel. ;)
These are people who should start paying more attention to the labels!
And this is actually a dumb complaint by the way - because 1. they can follow the hints and 2. even skip the first part entirely by choosing other episode.

I love that the game clearly takes place in E. Europe (living in a commie block), but then the map says something about the USPS. lol.

Annoying game. I do not get icons up to save or do anything except use the pussycat. Seams to me it is not ready yet. Its a pity the chars are nice.

I think people get the game wrong.
The mechanics are clearly not for everyone and there should be some hints. Though there are walkthroughs available.
The renders are great and the overall story is really good too. Lot of details.
And i am still impressed with that apartment block.
I just hope that freak doesn't play too much of a role. Oh, the daughter is going to church. Damn.

I saw the screenshots for this game and was impressed so I downloaded it. Then it loaded up in Macromedia flash.... I'm just going to say it, I think the game should be remade in Renpy. It's an engine that is comfortable for a great many people familiar with the genre and it's fairly 'open', so that people can be more reassured it's not been messed with.

Personally I'm not going to be playing an flash games, but I also don't play any RPGM or HTML games either, so you can view that however you want.

Indeed, the save option could be better.
You can save in any of the slots (1-8) - you just have to drag your cursor to the right side and you will see the list. Unfortunately nothing highlighting which slots are filled and which aren't. There's also no dialogue box/question when you overwrite an older save.
The save files created can be found numbered in the Save folder.
Usually when finishing the version I use the last slot, so I remember next time where to continue.

I understand how Ren'Py is generally done far better than a lot of engines, especially with out-of-the-box features. I'm not going to facepalm anyone for having an opinion. However, while I agree you have the freedom to play or reject any games you want, I do find it silly that something like non-Ren'Py means a game gets rejected.

I even get that a lot of people don't like RPGM mechanics, so at least it's more understandable because they almost always play in similar styles (players must wander around to click on things that may or may not interact, the games often have fighting that isn't really necessary or appropriate for the story, etc.). So rejecting something that pretty much always has the same gameplay style makes some sense (although I still disagree with that attitude). But Flash, HTML, Unity, Unreal — all rejected because they aren't Ren'Py? That just seems extraordinarily silly to me. You're free to have your opinions, and I'm free to think your view is overly restrictive and strange.

I definitely agree with this. As an alternative to what you do, I just go to the \save folder and look at file info. Whatever has the latest date would be the last save I used. I definitely think there should at least be a warning before overwriting as well as some visual indicator that a slot has been used already.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I think Abigail is lovely, and I kind of even like Karen (although she needs to be taken down a few notches), but for me Jennifer is gorgeous. Her personality is cute as hell, and her body is hot as hell. He chose extremely well when he decided to use / make her model for rendering the character.

I'll try to explain my reasoning if you're interested?
  • I play these games for relaxation mostly, I don't want to be frustrated or vexed. If I play Renpy games I often have to enable the 'rollback' function, disable sounds or install a mod for an invisible/clear textbox. Why? Because they are annoying features to me as the games dialogue options are often not explained and I don't want to have to 'savescum' on every option just to see what happens/triggers. Because the sounds are appalling, the music is boring, crap, doesn't fit with the mood or I just don't like it, there are surprising effects everynow and then, they use a crappy porn track or there is a sound effect for every bloody action in the scene for no bloody reason. Sometimes someone will have a textbox opacity slider in the options and I'll love them for it, mostly the textbox is what the dev think is best and to me it isn't and I want it gone.
  • Then there are other engines, RPGM is as you said, I don't like that kind of game, making me do repetitive fetch quests in between what is essentially just a VN annoys me. There are some RPGM games that also don't include the entire engine and require you to install it from the makers website, which isn't explained and is a real pain in the butt.... I've played some enjoyable RPGM games but the vast majority just piss me off so I quit cold-turkey.
  • Unity.... Why would anyone choose Unity for a VN?!! I've played some and the downsides that are apparent to me are that the game isn't optimised, I have an older PC system and it taxes my cpu for no reason. The features are usually locked down so there's very little choice and the features I like in most VN games such as 'rollback' aren't possible. Games using Unity usually need to be finished and bug bashed in order to work properly, so releasing progressive 'updates' for Unity games usually means that the updates are 'broken' and with a crappy dev those bugs will persist.
  • I'll play a game using Unreal if it looks interesting, but as with Unity, serialised updates are usually bug ridden and broken.
  • Flash and HTML, I have previous experience of malicious code being injected into games in order to infect your pc and I don't trust the engines. Plus most games I've played in flash and HTML have a habit of crashing at odd times and again, I play these games to relax, I don't want the frustration. So I avoid them for that reasoning.
The majority of the people making games in this category aren't experienced and are making a game because they like a particular kink. Learning game development is a means to an end so often the game UI's don't end up being aesthetically pleasing and I want a relaxing experience without annoyances disturbing my play-time. So I discount games built around certain engines because of past experiences in order to avoid frustration. It doesn't mean I don't start playing a shit game but it helps thin the herd.

Thanks for trying to explain your reasoning. Obviously if your purpose is to relax and that doesn't happen when playing any particular game, it defeats the point of the game. I have an entirely different perspective on much of what you've said, and I could go through your post point by point to explain why I do. However, I appreciate that you do have a different view of it and will just agree to disagree on most of these points.

One point I would address, however, is why you would even go to the thread of a game that's always been in Flash and download the game in the first place. When you look at the name of a thread, there is a label provided that indicates the gaming engine (or "Other" if it's not one of the more common / more major ones, like TyranoBuilder). This very clearly has [Flash] by its name. So downloading it at all shouldn't happen in the first place, given that you talk about how you don't trust Flash games and that they have a habit of crashing.
