I don't get it. Every time I save the game, the save files don't show up in %appdata or any folder. Moreover, whenever I try to set up the recovery folder, Sandboxie crashes when launching the game.
If you are trying to check %APPDATA%, that would not be the proper location where Sandboxie Plus would place the data

As you see it branch out from "Games", there may have more than one folder, however in this case there two folders. One would be "drive" and other will be "user".

1. As you sees the path for "user" folder, that one will have the "AppData" which it is NOT the same as using %APPDATA% which would be related to the HOST's normal data configurations.

2. For example for AVN called "Fate and Life - The Mystery of Vaulinhorn", follow it path it should be roughly how the AVN game was extracted and where it would save it files. The "S" folder means "S Drive" the drive letter the partition was assigned to do "Demo" and/or "Testing"

However each individual may have use the default setup or custom box configuration, which means FYI, these images may not be the same for you, however use them as example to understand where the data is going. it does not goes to the original location such as where your Windows Profile would be.

In this case, the AVN example is RenPY, so it would be pretty much the same layout what been shown here. If it RPGM, it would be in the "drive" path folder. If it UNITY, it would be in the "user" folder path. (Additional notes) If you tweak the save files, it will need to be place in the Sandboxie's paths.

Regarding to "recovery folder", I have not done any testing due to either forgotten about it or too busy to do it since it is not as critical for someone like myself.

If you think Sandboxie Plus is still deleting the data, you may need to check the settings of that box:

Hopefully these information helps answer your issue and provide some information to help you understand where the data is going.

FYI, I only used "Fate and Life - The Mystery of Vaulinhorn" AVN as an example, due to someone while back had some issue with that AVN in Sandboxie Plus and had to test it to make sure it was not the AVN issue or not.

Have a great day and be safe... (y)

hi mate, thanks for this but i also wanted to ask if there was a way for Sandboxie not to erase my save data automatically. what i mean by this is whenever i run the .exe sandboxed and play my game and make saves, whenever i close it, Sandboxie automatically deletes the files in ..\Temp-Sandboxie\Games\drive\C\Temp\RPGM-Game\save unless i manually extract them out before closing my game. is there a way to stop Sandboxie from doing that because i gotta say copying my saves out of here before closing is getting annoying cause i have to do it so often, or else i lose all my game progress. its okay if its not possible tho
Ok, after I had to respond to someone else issue, I re-read your issue as well. The settings that Colobancuz provided with screenshot is the right location, however has check in the incorrect box. Check this link and read the last spoiler.

I believe that may be incorrect box outline for the user's issue you responded back to. Read above your message in this reply that I responded back to another person issue that you were trying to help out. After I read that user's issue again. The user stated that they didnt want their data to be removed or deleted.

Hmm, well, I kind of showed what tick box to uncheck to prevent anything from being deleted.

If you use built-in tools in file managers (plugins for FAR, Total Commander, etc.) to unpack archives, you can safely do so inside the forced folder.
However, if you use a separate application associated with the archive file extension (7z, Winrar, etc.), you need to open the archive outside the forced folder, but you can unpack it into the forced folder.
Alternatively, you can first launch the unpacker via Start (or a shortcut on the desktop) and then, once inside it, open the archive inside the forced folder and unpack it.

I hope that explains it clearly.
Can i put the archive folder in forced folder and unpack into forced folder with 7z? Would that cause a problem? My English isn't best if what you said before answers that already i couldn't understand it, sorry.

Steps:
- Launch 7-zip File Manager via Start.
- In the manager window, navigate to the folder with the archive you need and select it.
- Click Extract and follow the instructions to extract it to the folder you need.

If you do this, everything will be extracted without any problems.

If you extract the archive using the context menu in Explorer, it will most likely end up in the sandbox and you will not see the files on the disk.

thank you I have now made a sandbox folder for saves for ease of use but how are the games inside the sandbox getting the saves from outside. I think I may have accidentally skipped a step by accident. My bad if im being slow
Sandboxie will copy the saves and run from inside the sandbox.

\Sandbox\user\current\AppData\Roaming\RenPy

The idea behind the sandbox is that it migrates files necessary for the application to run and doesn't allow any modifications to existing files but in order for migration to occur it needs to access the drive.

It is not a separate OS (though processes are run in isolation) and doesn't have a hard barrier between other files and your program what it does is prevent programs from making changes to your files or placing files onto your system. If you want to prevent sandboxie from accessing the files you can do that pretty easily by running it as a separate user and using ACL deny entries for drives or encrypting them with EFS.

I usually ignore that warning box. However, I have not come across any issue not getting those warning box, how you were describing. If that the case, have you tried closing Sandboxie Plus and opeing Sandboxie Plus again and run that same game again to see if you still get that warning box. If you still not getting that warning box, the easiest way to try to fix that is to uninstall Sandboxie Plus and reinstall to see if it reset a setting to allow that warning box to appear to.

Check that you have enabled Internet access blocking in your sandbox settings and in the sandbox presets context menu.

Check to see if you accidentally clicked ‘hide’ on that message, and it ended up here (is located in the global settings):

You can delete it and it will reappear.

Hey, so I saw that sandboxie had an update but I have to Install sandboxie again (I have the 1.15.7) but if I install the update, will I lose my files that I have in my sandbox? If so how can I transfer my sandbox or my files to the new update of sandboxie?

This is a preconfigured Sandboxie box that I made based on the one I use frequently. Made in Sandboxie v1.16.2
You can import from the application itself.

Just uninstall the application and choose to keep the configuration files. Make sure that before installing the new version or uninstalling all Sandboxie processes are closed in the task manager.

Hello, I have a question, can I create a sandbox in an USB drive or another storage drive to run games from there, does it have to be created in the main storage (the drive with the OS)?

Sandboxie fully support portable install, so yes, you are able to install it wherever.

Yes you can, based on Hjort responded back to you. I am using the portable version. If you run the installation again, there will be an option to install it as portable.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

You can use portable installation on your computer, network drives or external storage, just follow the steps if needed. It should not be complicated to follow it instructions.

I played https://f95zone.to/threads/halfway-house-ep-11-bonus-7-9-az.33607/ bonus episode with sandboxie using settings given in here and with no internet access, scanned my pc with kaspersky paid version and malwarebytes and all showed clean results. Should I be still worried or I am good?
It is very likely that you are fine. The malware loader code is very simple and does nothing without Internet access. There are no signs of any more sophisticated attack methods.

I am on the older version of the sandbox 1.15.12 and got a prompt saying that a new version of sandboxie I was wondering how updating it would work, is it as simple as downloading the new version and installing it without deleting the old one and everything will be as it was or will I have to delete it. And if so how can I maintain my saves if thats even possible. I also have sandboxie on my c drive and have a sandbox folder on my d drive incase that matters.

There is no need to delete the old installation. Just make sure that nothing is running in the sandbox, download the new version, and run the installation. During the installation process, the installer will offer to update the existing version, and all settings will be saved.

"Failed to check for updates, error: 5", Just a few minutes ago I was playing and I received this message in sandoxie, I checked if I had all the configurations that I made and yeah It was all the same. Yesterday I was playing the same game and that error didn't pop up. I tried again with the same game and the error didn't appear, I tried with another one and the error didn't appear. Does someone knows why? or how can I solve it? (I have the 1.16.2 sandboxie version)
