Read the blog posts sometime. We have detailed our plans about this stuff many times.
I know that this is in the plans, but we are very much looking forward to the individual behavior of each monsutra species that matches the description in the wiki

can you play as the various "creatures" or just the photographers ? I thought I saw a screenshot about that.

Finally got around to playing 0.27 (apparently the last time I played was 0.24) and hoo-BOY is the new locomotion good.
Running around the place feels so much smoother than it used to; everything was so damn stiff back when, i'm practically gliding around now.

Keep ironing out those rough edges, things are really shaping up.

By the way, what is the logic for what places a picture in a stack or not? I know the idea was to prevent you from rapid-firing pictures of the same act to fill things out, but it seems pictures will stack if I just sit in the same place too long.
Example: I took a picture of a mon while facing North. Turned 180 and saw a PP chance so I snapped a picture. Both were thrown into a stack despite being entirely different subject matter.

time. the stack times out and gets stowed after a few seconds and then any images are in a new stack. You can see this because the previous shot thumbnail in the lower right vanishes when it happens.

I like the new locomotion a lot as well, main feedback is climbing up ropes is agonizingly slow and there's a lot of (new?) invisible walls.

Don't particularly like the balance beam minigame. It's not hard, it's just slightly annoying. Would be fine with just the wobbling animation playing as you cross the few places that it's needed.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking it was. Just wanted some sort of confirmation.
I've been getting around it by just uploading single pictures immediately. You can kinda 'charge' the upload so that it happens right as the picture finishes 'developing'. Still not ideal, but I don't think it's ever actually led to me missing out on good photos.

On the plus side, taking and immediately uploading single pictures means I can never lose pictures from... things that make you lose pictures.

yeah. it feels like there's in-game infra to make uploading pictures harder/limiting the range, and I hope they never do that because nothing would make me ragequit faster than getting a S+ and then losing it to random chance.

Where do the malous sleep? they don't seem to go to sleep if I follow them and even when I tag them with the scanner I've never seen one lying down anywhere.

I seem to find them sleeping mostly in the deep, leafy, garden like areas. Seems like they love sleeping in shade
finally tripped over one in the swamp cave.

Are you using a strange setup? You need to give me more details.
I've seen this happen a couple times. If you're too close to environment (rock, tree) when you initiate sex the freecam breaks pretty badly.

Thoughts overall after ~92% completion:

The hidden areas desperately need a use. Cool, you found a cave behind a waterfall, there's nothing in it but the same things you can see outside. I'm assuming this is 'nesting' for a future update but it'd be nice if different species spawned sleeping there.

I can't tell what's going to be a B, A or S photograph after hours of playing. Close up, genitals in frame, [PP] icon, B-. Whatever tutorial/feedback there is, even the hold-f to get a analysis doesn't help much. What are the three icons by the image, why does the tail icon shift slightly, what does any of it mean?

There's achievements related to research level but no way to view your current research level outside of catching it when you improve a photo category.

Following a critter around they don't have any real day/night cycle. You can only catch one sleeping if they spawn in asleep, I've never seen one lie down and go to sleep. Other behaviors like drinking water are the same - they don't go to the water to drink, they only spawn in. It's super hard to catch them drinking ("eating")because they spawn as you approach and finish before you're close enough for a good shot.

If a predator detects you, even if they're already humping something, they'll drop that and go after you. In the same vein, once they detect you they fixate and won't pounce anything else. I've tried leading them into prey and they'll never go for them.

I followed a malus for a half hour as she walked back and forth between two plants getting molested by each in turn.

The AI bugs out at times and just parks on idle until the critter despawns. Keep them in sight, walk away, and they just never recover. I've only seen this after detecting the player but it may happen at other times.

Getting prey species to initiate hunting acts is rough.

hitting tab is sllloooowwwww. opening monpedia is even slower. No idea what's going on there but it's 5+ seconds on each of those steps.

What does the hand action do? Rock and lotion are obvious.

OP lists a pheremone bomb but I haven't seen that? The controls in the op in general are outdated.

UI Glitches: Scrolling in the monsutra, monpedia, expidition logs or achievements. Scroll up to the top with mousewheel then scroll back down, or bottom and try scrolling back up. It won't move [/i]until you move the mouse[/i]. Even shifting the mouse a single pixel unlocks it. I think the widget loses focus when you hit the top or bottom of the scroll and doesn't regain focus until the mouse moves.

Fast travel only works to base camp. Are you supposed to be able to jump to radio towers? The hint says "Tired of walking, try fast travel" or something like that but... I first played on .26 and unlocked every tower there.

Everyone detests yellow paint but... climbable ledges may need some sort of art tweak. It's not obvious what rocks you can jump and pull up on and what you can't. Even a subtle crease in the rock would help, you don't have to use safety paint and neon signs for us, we're not console gamers lol.

None of these are really major issues, mostly cleanup. Some improvements to player communication, tweaks to behavior and some optimization.

I really like this game. Don't know why it's so compelling a gameplay loop but it is. Excellent work!

E: Good lord this jump is hard. What am I missing? He won't grab the tiny peak on the right there, I've bounced off it 10-15 times now.

Glad you like the game updates. It is based on photographer location atm, we will add more variables to it, likely focus location and other things so it can feel a little more intelligent if you turn around and swap focus or something.

So there is a lot in here ill just bunch it up and address it all together.

Nests: intentionally empty at the moment, they will become kinda like an instanced stealth puzzle with unlockables and such. That is how you'll find sleeping poses in the future.

AI: including things like hunting and focus, right now the ai is dumb as shit, and we intentionally make the game feel full by using a lot of tricks, at most you'll see maybe 8-10 ai spawning at once, and once you run past them they are recycled to appear in front of you again. The ai lifestyle director is the next patch focus which will be able to spawn an entire islands worth of ai, give them routines to follow, unique species behavior, make each predator have different mechanics to understand. Shit like that. Same deal with going back to their nests at night, running from rain, that kinda stuff.

Monpedia speed: we moved photo preloading to the monpedia opening for the time being so we can remove the photo loading on save. Previously when you submitted photos, data would be stored the moment you exited the submission panel which left a giant fps spike in gameplay, so we moved it to opening monpedia instead. The moment to moment stuff is much better because of it.

Jumping points: The system lets you climb anything in the world. Making the whole world yellow just isn't in the cards. As for the jumping puzzle, well. It's not supposed to be easy.

Achievements: There is no achievement for research level. If you're talking about the licenses its based on the 100% completion rate.

Fast travel: you fast travel between campsites, there are 1 campsite per biome. We only have 1 biome atm.

Hands are the lack of tools.

yeah, I understood nests were upcoming. They're just very obviously missing since the areas are made for them but empty, so looking forward to that update.

AI update sounds great, also looking forward to that when it lands.

Monpedia: Sounds like you're loading every image for every species at once, or at least a whole lot of them. Might help to atlas the thumbnails on generation into a single texture and load the full images only when clicked? It's only going to get worse as you add more species, but loading a single image is much less of a hit than loading all of them at once. And... that doesn't explain why the first <TAB> takes so long to load, which is nearly as long as going from that menu to the top of monpedia.

Jumping points: yeah, huge world and I'm not asking to hand-paint them all, just a general refinement of the rock asset, not every individual instance, to make where the top is more clear. Collision wise they're basically cubes but the top doesn't read differently than the sides. Just kinda blurs between the two. I get the puzzle is hard, lol. I just have no idea if I'm supposed to try to run and nail that first smaller peak then short jump to each of the little points in turn. I got to the point in the screenshot after a lot of pracice, overrun is a big deal when trying to land platformers. That rock I'm standing on in the SS you can't jump and pull yourself up, there's a tiny little bump you have to stand on before jumping and your character tends to overshoot pretty badly. The controls aren't really tight enough for a platformer that precise. You could do some location-specific player assists but... eh. Better to tighten the controls and make the character feel less like a clumsy cow when trying to line up the jumps.

Fast travel: Gotcha, the loading screen tip is just premature. It is accurate for when the other biomes get added.

Hands: maybe remove the ∞ symbol from hand if it's the "do nothing" mode.

Is the pheremone bomb from the first post dev notes obsolete from before the plant lifecycle was complete or upcoming for the tool use update?

Would really like an 'unstuck' button that just pops the player up a couple foot. I've gotten wedged in invisible holes a few times - one during an animation transition from balance beam to walking that locked the controls to the point fast travel back to base camp didn't work. I had to quit to main menu and reload entirely. They seem mostly centered around transitions to/from the new locomotion animations. Approaching a rope climb from above is fraught, and sometimes exiting a rope climb once you reach the top leaves you stuck. I've ended up on the balance beam backwards more than once, which means you have to do the whole thing backwards and hope the character transitions back to walking properly - more often than not you're already softlocked and need to fast travel.

The stream near the bathing pond near base camp shouldn't be deep enough downstream of the log bridge to be a barrier. I get stuck, and the girls get stuck there as well. Just walking forever into an invisible barrier. You can cross part of it, but part of it is too deep and the AI's navigation isn't smart enough to handle that.

Really enjoying this game so this is suggestions/feedback and not criticism. Glad I picked it up on a whim and tried it, ended up spending a lot of time on it already.

Very promising. Futa is kind of a deal breaker for me, but I can understand the convenience for development and I'm glad to hear that there are males planned.

My one (other) suggestion is that it would be fun if the sex events had a bit more impact or game play involvement. Right now they're mostly a mild inconvenience since being able to remote submit photos minimizes the loss (which is good). Broadly, I think some kind of statuses that you would get and need to resolve would be interesting... For example:

- Getting caught by a plant gives an irresistible status that would cause normally friendly species to hunt you.
- Getting caught in spores would give you a status that causes you to jump a normally friendly species if it poses for you.
- Getting caught by a predator causes your hands to be shaky and/or makes it impossible to run or crouch.
- A predator could mark you (or maybe some new trap) could make you smell so peaceful species flee and/or predators detect you at a larger radius.

You could also have them stack so that, say, if you get spored twice you hunt anything not just a posing species (could potentially interact with a gender preference too) or if you get caught in a predator nest you get all of shaky hands, can't run, can't crouch. There could also be some positives too, e.g. you need to get the irresistible status or maybe the in order to find some really elusive species, or some species would only pose for you if you smell like a predator.

One more minor thing is that I think the flowers should always trigger if you hang over them for more than a couple seconds. One of my favorite moments was when I was stealthing for a photo and walked into a plant. No doubt a bit annoying but kind of a fun reminder to check your environment too.
