I would suggest you take everyone’s opinion with a grain of salt and just give it a try. It’s a Japanese game after all, so it’s either you like it or hate it.

There's a ton of stat boosting stuff around though:

Starting stats: 14 STR, 15 AGI, 5 END (VIT in the Equipment screen) and DEX and 1 LUCK.

Max stat is 20, minimum is 1. Stat boosting (or lowering) won't exceed these numbers. Combined with melee weapons i was consistently OHKOing regular enemies, or 2-hitting the stronger ones.
