Thank you for such a detailed review. And I 100% agree mechanics are ass, I really tended to focus on animations and game philosophy of porn games, as you mentioned so gameplay details didn't get enough attention. Glad to hear my bet paid off and you expierenced more positive than negative. As for changes for this game, I'm goona be honest - clunky mechanics would probably stay as this, I'm not feeling like digging in my abomination of code. I'd rather to start working on a new project ASAP and use new experience gained to do better next time
Yup, definitely notes for a next work more than pending fixes.

Alright actually played it myself after that previous "please add resolution options" comment and I gotta say, Vivi here really nailed it with the review.

I gotta echo most of this:

Movement feels sluggish when not sprinting, and since there's no sprint while swimming it incentivizes running... except if there's any sort of downward incline on the ground you rapid swap back and forth between "walking" and "swimming" and it kills both your speed and momentum each time your state changes. Frustating to say the least, but manageable. Jumping on the above-ground stages is inconsistent as you can easily get stuck clipping into platforms and are forced to do a double jump just to get your feet off the ground, again not a huge issue because the stages aren't very difficult but if you wanted to make more elaborate platforming sections, you would need to tighten this up.

Also as Vivi mentioned, my personal biggest gripe with the gameplay is the way enemies will "steal" you from each other; it makes watching the actual animations extremely difficult during gameplay, especially since there's no way to "get rid of" enemies you don't want to see (either by distracting them or defeating them somehow). That said, the ability to see every animation without taking a point of damage is extremely nice, the timing minigame is pretty intuitive and works smoothly. As mentioned by some others in the thread, the gallery is a bit blurrier than seeing the animations in-game, not sure why, but it's definitely a little annoying.

Also one last note on the gameplay; the hitboxes don't feel as clear as I would like them to be. When I was playing through the 6 stages, I had quite a bit of trouble judging how close I could get to some enemies (like the dolphins, the squids and most egregiously, the bushes in stage 4) before getting grabbed, often getting grabbed from what seemed to be a mile away. Tightening that up a little would hlep the game feel smoother to play overall.

It's a pretty rare niche within a niche, but you really hit the nail on the head with this one; this is some great content. The sillhouette style makes it stand out as visually distinct and really gets your imagination involved, which I think does more work than colours ever would and god am I a sucker for this kind of stuff, specifically the bugs and the facefucking really presses my buttons.

Some people may not like the "futa appears only when in use" kind of scenario, but I think it works pretty damn well and, quite frankly, it doesn't have to make any kind of logical sense; it's already a game about a woman running naked through caves and getting fucked by animals, where's the realism to start with? It's used well when it appears and it's nice, I'd give that an A+.

All told, great demo! Really, really high score on the porn scale, lower score on the gameplay scale due to jank but it's not bad, especially for a first project. Excited to see more from you going forward!

Realism isn't what I would talk about, but consistency. Or like, any context. As far as my preferences go ideally she'd have a dick even when not in use, but I don't mind there being futa and fem scenes. It's just the way that it's just randomly there when a scene demands with no context. The "futa appears only when in use" you mention tends to involve the dick first appearing in some way, you know. But, being so wordy about this is gonna make this sound like I have a bigger issue with this than I really do. I just find it slightly weird how abrupt it is but I can imagine it being an effect of wanting some fem and some futa scenes without time/ability to make it come together more coherently and it's just a minor nitpick.

I really enjoy seeing people so involved in their feedback. I really appreciate that and paid close attention to your first comment about resolution and tryed to make it a part of the latest hotfix, but unfortunately was not able to implement resolution resize option properly, I'm sorry. As for the clunky movement I was aware that on levels 2 nd 3 if ground is at least a little round you would slow down in constant transitions, but decided to keep the levels that way to encourage swimming, so it's intended if this knowledge will make the situation more clear, sorry if my lazy decision caused frustrations. Now about scenes resolutions, in day or two I'll post the gallery on my boosty(for free) that contains all the scenes in their original quality, which is like, 5 times more resolution than they are in the game. I recommend to come back for them in 2-3 days, if you would love to see them again in full HD

May I ask when the new work can start production? I'm really looking forward to the CG you made. Every animation is precisely in my strike zone. I can't wait any longer

(By the way, you can try the "pixel Game Maker MV player" engine. "Forest of the Blue Skin" is also in use. This should solve the operational problem)

Thank you so much, Glad you liked the style. I really tried to make it stand out. Development of the new game will start in like, a week, while I'm monitoring feedback, pushing some hotfixes if needed, and releasing full HD gallery. New game is likely about russo-ukrainian war with main action around futa, mecha, a bit less bestiality than Sea of Shadows. But the feedback you guys give really determs the theme and focus of next game(and how fast it comes out). I'll keep an eye on pixel Game Maker, as new project will almost 100% be in pixel style to mitigate performance issues

Awesome! And is there any chance you'll make more variations to the cobra scene? One of his penises is not used, only in cutscene.

I'm really considering a DLC. And if it will come true - I'll most likely focus on new enemies. But I'm closely monitoring what people liked in the first place, so double-dicked creatures should be on horizon

Yea, the idea of twisting such a sensetive topic, and being as edgy as I can about it might make people really excited. But Sea of Shadows got such a positive feedback that I'll have to make a choice soon, between a new game or DLC, and stick to my niche

Seeing as you're looking for feedback...

This game has an incredibly distinct artstyle, and the scenes make full use of that artstyle to honestly make the whole experience quite enjoyable. I'm usually not interested in humanoid enemies, and the selection of creatures are all something i very rarely see utilized in these kinds of games (like snakes, for example!), so this scratches that itch while simultaneously being very unique. I guess it's a matter of taste, but for me, this is a positive.

A shame it's not that long of a game, but it does a lot of things that are in my opinion quite nice (like the scenes not being relegated to game overs and looping until you break free; this one also earns bonus points for the struggle system making it so you can avoid damage altogether AND allowing you to have multiple enemies advance on you.) This is decidedly a positive because usually it's such a massive separation between gameplay and h-content to put everything into game overs only that you might as well be playing a mediocre game with an eye-candy gallery on the side as opposed to an h-game.

My biggest gripe is probably how janky the movement feels at times.
Jumping sometimes happens with a weird delay, sometimes the collision eats my jumps altogether, and I should mention that as long as you're not grounded and you were jumping during the frame where you were grabbed, you can still move around.

But, aside from the jank, Sea of Shadows is definitely something I can recommend. Doesn't weigh much, doesn't eat your GPU resources and offers you simple yet very effective scenes that show the essentials in a very... satisfying, I guess is the word I'd use here, manner.

A fine work, N! I hope I'll see more from you sometime.

I think a DLC or sequel to this project would be wonderful! And I’d say most people here would agree! I personally would love to see more underwater scenes of bizarre creatures roughly sucking on the futa! I’m a particular fan of trap enemies that might linger in the shadows like mimics or hidden pits that pray on futa cock almost parasitically.
As for the war game idea, I say go for it, even if it might come off a bit offensive! Art ought to be controversial, and striking in such ways, especially in the h-game scene I believe! I just hope you’d find some kind of way to still have futa x dick-sucking creatures even in that environment. If it’s a sort of sci-fi spin then perhaps the opposing military could use creatures like that as a bio-weapon similarly to how the combine use headcrabs in Half-Life 2!
Also it might be a good idea to set up a discord server! I’d love to discuss future projects and it’s always good to build a small community for these things!

Surely, there would be room for futa x creatures\bestiality content in the war game in a form of Ukrainian biolabs. Discord server might be an idea if I see the community grow enough.

Every "Game over" scene should have this little button on right or left - it sends you to menu where you can exit. There is no pause pause menu where you can press "exit" if you are on level, so you'll have to close the game manually with operating system

Thanks. I guessed it was bugged for me. It didn't showed any buttons when it had the game over screen
